L a u ren m i lls T h i rt y S econd S u m m ar y A fresh-minded, hard working junior architect with a delight for design, I believe in architecture as a tool to solve problems and improve quality of life. I left Australia in order to soak up as much knowledge as possible surrounding architecture & urban design. Since then, I’ve fallen in love with the Netherlands’ architecture, engineering, culture, and people. I thrive in a team environment of a social and vibrant workplace, where I am able to inspire and be inspired by my peers. I find joy in the mundane. I take pride in my work. I live to solve problems and restore order to chaos. I seek employment that will allow me to seamlessly link architecture as my passion, with architecture as my career.

The premise - A sensitive and ephemeral solution on the north east coast of Tasmania, for a standing camp to accommodate 10 tourists and 2 guides. The camp marks the halfway point of a 20km coastal walk, discovering the cultural significance of Aboriginal heritage in the area. The proposal - An endemic ecological approach that touches the earth lightly, with equal emphasis on the land, animals and plants as the people visiting. The architecture focuses on ‘spaces between’ and requires the visitor to burrow, tunnel and nest in order to notice and enjoy certain moments.

Burrowed into the wall of the clearing, the architecture provides specific shelters for the native animals, bats and birds, as well as the human visitors

LETTER OF REFERENCE - Lauren Mills

To Whom It May Concern, Lauren Joined Plus Architecture as a fresh graduate in November 2015. In her 18 months at Plus Architecture, she developed strong relationships and showed signs of becoming a great architect. She worked on the sketch design team and design development teams on a number of multi-unit residential and hotel developments ranging from $10M to $100M construction value. Lauren is a hard worker and great team member. Everyone likes working with her. She has an effervescent character – making the office a fun place to work. In a perfect world, you will hire Lauren, pour work and responsibility on her. She will reward you with dedication and hard work. And you will return her with a wealth of experience. We would have no hesitation of having her back at Plus Architecture when she finishes her European adventure. Yours Sincerely
