G(}OD NExAIS Jeremiah 3a:7-g / Hebrews 5:t-6 | Mark ro:46-52

Saturday, October z7:

f tsen Santos

l'm generally a morning person, but l'm far from perky before I put in my contact lenses. That brief period in which I stumble out of bed toward the bathroom to "put my eyes in" is the closest l've come to being blind, and it's not

7:L5 am

pleasant.

g:3o am Mass:

Though I go through this ritual every morning, I unfortunately still take the gift of sight for granted. Probably many of us do. When we open our eyes each day, we simply expect to be able to see. What a shock it must be to gradually or suddenly lose that gift.

Monday, October z9:

We don't know how Bartimaeus lost his sight-whether it was gradual or sudden, whether he was born blind. But though he lacked physical sight, he possessed an even greater gift-the eyes of faith. Somehow he'd heard about Jesus, and he believed.

The crowds couldn't discourage Bartimaeus from calling out to Jesus. And when

"threw aside his cloak." As a beggar, Baftimaeus gathered alms in his cloak, so he was leaving behind all the money he'd gathered that day-such was his trust in Jesus. For his great faith, he was given his sight, and he responded in gratitude by following Jesus.

Jesus answered, Bartimaeus

l'm guessing we take for granted not only the gift of sight, but also the gift of faith. Having eyes of faith isn't our own doing-it's truly a gift from God. Are we using this gift as well as Bartimaeus did, trusting in God wholeheartedly no matter who or what discourages us? lf we need help, we need only call out to Jesus. If we're stumbling and need help "putting our eyes (of faith) in," we can say today with Bartimaeus, "Master, I want to see." Janel Esker sundaybulletins@liguori.org

Law says, "sacred objects are to be treated reverently and are not to be employed for profane or inappropriate use even if they are owned by private persons." To keep sacramentals and Bibles from being exposed to disgrace and vandalism, people have traditionally disposed of them by burning them, burying them, and even breaking them apart. All of these methods are acceptable as long as they're carried out with
