After a multifaceted education in art at Skidmore College, Colby College and the Graduate School of Design at Harvard University, Jil Eaton’s professional career as painter, graphic designer, arts administrator and restauranteur has dressed her in many hats, most lately as an internationally acclaimed knitting designer. She designs, publishes and distributes an independent line of hand-knitting patterns for children and adults under the MINNOWKNITSTM label. A formidable knitter, Jil Eaton’s designs have a comfortable, but chic silhouette, encompassing both the traditional and the newest trends, adapting everything in easy-to-knit projects with great attention to detail, fresh styling and unusual colourways. Fascinated with color and fashion, Jil’s inspiration comes from many diverse directions, including everything from the bold designs of French sailor suits to richly hued Andean tapestries. Never at a loss for ideas, Jil produces two collections annually, designs for VOGUE KNITTING INTERNATIONAL and other publications, and is busy with her tenth book. Her Learn-to-Knit Kits are distributed nationally and internationally. Jil has a feature column, “Ask Jil” in Vogue Knitting’s magazine Knit Simple. Always returning to her deep-seeded love of knitting, designing knitwear focuses all her talents. Her spacious studios are clean and white, full of sketches, drawings, photographs, and delicious yarns. Jil juggles work for the collections, travel, life with her husband David, her son Alexander, and a charming Cock-a-poo, Rexi-Martine.
