Pictured above are scenes from their great Vacation Bible School at Omar Heights Church June 10-14. Penia Church joined in the fun to help make it an awesome week. Average attendance of kids was 70 and total average attendance was 110 with five professions of faith. Great and glorious things happen when God’s people work together!
From your missionary I recently went to Houston, Texas for the Southern Baptist Convention. I enjoy being able to hear the reports of what we as Southern Baptist are doing to reach our world for Christ. This year was similar to many of the past conventions but I felt like there was a stronger emphasis on Global Missions. Gary Leutzinger The IMB reported some great things that God has been doing internationally. They reported in 2012 there were 266,451 baptisms and 199,162 churches and 24,073 were new churches. These numbers give us reason to rejoice about the people that are being reached but there are over 6,000 people groups and 1.7 billion people still live with little or no access to the gospel. There is definitely a lot more work to do to get the gospel to those who need to hear it. We need to make sure we are supporting international missions by praying for the missionaries and giving faithfully to the Cooperative Program and Lottie Moon Christmas Offering. I also heard a great report by Kevin Ezell who is the President of the North American Mission Board. He reported that there were 929 new churches planted and 155 joined the SBC by affiliation in 2012. He shared that churches plant churches and we only plant Southern Baptist Churches. There is a strong emphasis right now on planting new churches and they are doing a better job with planter assessment and to make sure planters affirm the 2000 Baptist Faith and Message and give to the Cooperative Program. They also reported that they are making efforts in the area of Church Revitalization to help churches that are plateaued and declining. I am very pleased to hear of the efforts that NAMB is making to help us to see the urgency to reach North America with the Gospel. September 8-11, fifteen of our churches will be participating in the “On Mission Connection”. Each church will be having IMB, NAMB, and state missionaries who will be sharing what God is doing on their mission field. It is my prayer that members of each congregation will attend every service and be
sensitive to how the Holy Spirit will speak and that we will sense the urgency to pray more, give more, and even be personally committed in sharing the Gospel. Pressing On Toward the Goal! Bro. Gary Church news
