Dear Friends and Partners: Thank you for taking the time to read our magazine and learning more about us. We know that you are reading this because your heart is full of compassion for the poor. Mission work is the closest thing to the heart of God. Thank you for your love, your compassion, and your willingness to become involved in helping the children of Haiti.

Recently, we have all faced the challenges of COVID-19 problems. But, we are in this together. We have learned God honors faithfulness in small things. When we are good stewards of small things, God trusts us with bigger things. We know that, “Only one life, ‘twill soon be past; Only what’s done for Christ will last.” (Missionary, C.T. Studd) Thank you for all your help, your love, your encouragement and your sacrifices you have made.

With everything we do or build in Haiti, we strive to make sure it has integrity behind it; whether it be the large Grand Miracle Market, churches, schools, radio station, orphanage, feeding programs, the Jesus Healing Center, the Malnutrition Center, the Kingdom Connection Food Distribution Center, or our sustainability projects. We always try to do everything the best we can to give God all the honor and glory due to Him, and to make our donors proud of the money they invest in Love A Child.

Each year, we undergo a very technical and intense audit of our accounting practices in the United States, Haiti, and the Dominican Republic, and each year we receive an excellent

God first called us to preach to the poor. We began preaching on street corners in the States and later in gospel tents, auditoriums, and churches. Then, the Lord said, “Go ye into all the world and preach the Gospel to every creature.” We began ministering in the Philippines, India, Jamaica, Haiti and many other countries. Our hearts were always “pulled to Haiti.” On July 1st, 1991, we moved to Haiti. We have “never looked back... only forward.”

Delivering food to the children in the garbage dumps is one of our greatest concerns.

We moved to Haiti 30 years ago and the reason we moved was to “help the poor.” Sherry and I made many short-term trips back and forth to Haiti for many years, and it was always the poor, especially the children, who touched our hearts. One night, I was in Port-au-Prince, the capital, and it was raining as I was walking through the dirty streets of the city. A little girl was squatting on the side of the street with her little arm outstretched as she clutched a few pieces of candy. Her mother had sent her there to sell a few pieces of candy so that she could buy some rice for the children. I reached down and

put some money in her hand, and through her tears, she smiled and said, “Merci” or thank you in Creole!

Since the day we moved to Haiti, July 1st, 1991, we began to “feed the poor.” We would buy rice, beans, and powdered milk; whatever we could bag up and give to the poor. We started an orphanage, and then, Christian Schools. We loved the fact that we could give a child a Christian Education and feed them at the same time. We began to reach out to poor villages in Haiti, and we also began to share food with other missionaries.

We have been blessed to receive wonderful, healthy food from our friends at Feed My Starving Children, and with this food, we began to share with 93 other missionary organizations, which also feed the poor in Haiti. Last year, we distributed over 25 million meals with the help of our partners, who sponsor the transportation of the food from the States to Haiti.

Feeding Projects Closest to our Hearts…

Haiti is in the worst food crisis it has ever experienced.

The main problem is the devaluation of the Haitian dollar in comparison to the American dollar. That means the basic staple foods in Haiti have risen dramatically in cost. Children who suffer the most live in poor, isolated areas, like the

village of Gobert on top of a mountain, the garbage dumps of Cité Soleil, and other poor areas, where there are no jobs and little rainfall. As the Lord blesses, we want to increase our feeding programs. We know that “food is the bridge” to “sustainability projects,” which provides “Food For Life.”

A Children’s Home with a

VISION!

Georges operates all the heavy equipment in our food distribution and construction projects.

Florence is in college in Italy with a partial scholarship.

Years ago, we began our Love A Child Orphanage, which we now call our “Children’s Home” with four children whose father and mother had died.

We had no idea how to operate an orphanage or what it would take, but we knew that God wanted these children to be “more than orphans.” He wanted each one to be “a child with a future.” Most orphanages in Haiti make the children leave when they turn 18, and sadly enough, many end up on the streets. But, we stress “Jesus first and a good education.” Florence is in college in Italy, with a partial scholarship, studying radiology and then her plans are to go into physical therapy. This “mantle” for physical therapy fell on her after the 2010 earthquake when she volunteered in our field hospital. Georges graduated from CAT® equipment training and operates our heavy equipment to support food distributions and our construction projects, including the new Jesus Healing Center. Fabienne (not pictured) is in her third year of dental college. They all have a “dream.” We live here with these children as “one family!”

Love A Child Jesus Healing Center

After operating the Jesus Healing Center for over 10 years, God led us to take an even greater step of faith; making it an expanded place where we could meet the high demand of patients needing our health care services. Opened in 2009, our hardworking staff at the Jesus Healing Center treated more than 40,000 patients a year, but the building could not accommodate the crowds.

It hurt our hearts to turn away an overflow of more than 150 people at the end of each day!

On January 12, 2021, our medical staff, lead doctor, administration, and children came together to celebrate the Dedication of the new Jesus Healing Center – nearly twice the size of the original building – with a greater capacity to provide our patients with life-saving care.

The beautiful new building not only features a much larger footprint, but it also includes a more efficient emergency room, a fully equipped dental clinic, and we are building a separate housing unit for the medical staff. Our compassionate staff at the Jesus Healing Center will always make sure that “everything they do” will be done “first-class” and with “excellence!”

We all want to thank those who sacrificed, with gifts of all sizes, to care for the poor in this beautiful clinic. We also want to thank Joyce Meyer – Hand of Hope, for their monthly gift to help sponsor the operating cost! This is a huge blessing!

A

Birthing Center for Poor Haitian Mothers

Poor Haitian mothers give birth in mud huts on dirt floors in unsanitary conditions. The Love A Child Birthing Center gets mothers off dirt floors of mud huts and into clean birthing rooms. These women receive the best medical care possible and they are taught how to better care for their babies and themselves.

There are so many complications that can occur during childbirth. With the new facility, poor Haitians have a place to help make the birthing process easier and safer. A staff of midwives (“fanm saj” in Creole) cares for the mothers and helps deliver their babies. The staff members are some of the best medical professionals in Haiti and they are all thankful for their jobs, which allows them to provide for their families.

Just over a year after its opening, the Birthing Center celebrated our 1,000th baby born in the clinic. Going above and beyond routine maternity care, the Birthing Center provides a variety of classes to help women prepare for a safe and clean birthing experience, including childbirth education, breastfeeding, nutrition and more. In attendance for our Dedication was the First Lady of Haiti, Elisabeth Débrosse Delatour Préval, who made it possible for our Clinic to provide Birth Certificates, a very rare thing in Haiti.

We have a “license” to operate the Birthing Center legally and provide “birth certificates” to mothers who have their babies at our Birthing Center. This is a “big thing” in Haiti because many mountain people don’t have birth certificates, and they don’t know how old they are… and if they don’t have a birth certificate, they can’t go to school!

We are so thankful to an anonymous partner who planted the first “faith seed” and matched gifts of other partners to make our Love A Child Birthing Center a dream come true! When we all work together, we get so much accomplished for the Lord!

The

Malnutrition Center Saving One Life At A Time

“For I was hungry and you gave me food.” – Matthew 25:35 While families in Haiti struggle to survive off less than $2 US a day, too many Haitian children suffer from chronic, as well as acute malnutrition. Nearly one-third of all children under the age of five suffer from stunted growth.

More than 100,000 children in Haiti suffer from acute malnutrition. They are dying of hunger.

Symptoms of malnutrition can be seen in children whose little bodies become bloated or emaciated due to lack of nutrients. Their hair also turns red and brittle.

At the Malnutrition Center, each parent receives education, great medical care and lots of nourishing food for their babies and toddlers.

With Haiti’s food crisis growing, our Malnutrition Center was serving more malnourished babies and toddlers than ever before. So, we began to “have a dream” of a new Malnutrition Clinic, with the best of doctors and everything we would need to save little lives.

What a miracle when Joyce Meyer Ministries — Hand of Hope offered to sponsor the new building and also gave funds for the furnishings, the beds, tables, play area, chairs, dining room, etc.!

This was indeed a miracle! We hosted the dedication of the Malnutrition Center on Friday, January 29, 2021.

The regional Malnutrition Center offers early childhood vaccinations and monitors the height and weight of each child. Additionally, we provide temporary housing for the mother and child to support the child’s healing, as well as specialized food and care to save their lives.

Each family receives food to take home to ensure proper growth and development in between appointments at our clinic. And, we are able to host families who have babies and toddlers on the brink of life and death in a home built just for patient care.

“Food Is The Bridge” to our

“Food For Life” Projects...

Food is the Bridge to our Food For Life Sustainability Projects There is a Creole Proverb that says, “An empty sack cannot stand…” It means, when you are hungry, you are weak. You cannot learn as a child and you cannot stand to work as an adult. Food is first. It is always first for helpless children whose families have no jobs.

Love A Child is constantly busy finding and creating jobs!

Here at Love A Child, we have nearly 700 Haitians employed in jobs. These Haitians are employed at our Jesus Healing Center, Children’s Home, our 22 schools, office workers, and more. A job provides food and care for a poor family for a lifetime. But God has given us other ways of creating “jobs” like our Agricultural Training Center, our Poul Mirak (Chicken Co-op) with egglaying chickens, and with our efforts of reforestation with our Moringa trees, as well as the Gwo Maché Mirak (Grand Miracle Market) and much more.

Rad Hazelip, our Assistant Executive Director of Love A Child, along with our agriculturist, Wilner, have developed a wonderful Agricultural Training Center (ATC) that is located in the back of Miracle Village. We teach poor farmers in remote areas how to grow crops with “literally nothing!” They see a once dead and dried up piece of rocky 12

land become a green, beautiful garden! The young, eager students of the ATC learn to grow plants, make compost and grow productive crops. The trees grown include: Moringa, Carambola, Mahogany, Acacia, and Neem, as well as Papaya, Cabbage, Two cuties help plant Moringa trees.

Onions, Tomatoes, Spinach, Eggplant, Okra, and much more. They become “miracle gardens” through hard work! After the students graduate, we provide them with garden tools and firstgeneration seeds! Little by little, this “dream” begins to grow… just like when God plants a seed in your heart to do something, it starts with something “small.” As we care for this seed, water it, baby it, watch over it, and pray over it, God does bigger things!!! And we want you to be part of it!

Sustainability…

Food, Hope, Jobs and Dignity!

We may take having a job for granted, but it gives us dignity, security and most of all, hope. We can see this when we look into the faces of those who work at the Agricultural Training Center, in gardens, and teaching others in the “regions beyond.” When they see their crops come up, the workers here are so excited that they bring big baskets and boxes to the orphanage and want “Mr. Bobby” to take their picture! They are so proud of their hard work! In the mountains, a Haitian pastor will take us by the hand and lead us to his “garden plot” by his church where locals have been caring for a large garden they have planted. These Haitians had graduated from our Agricultural Training School in Fond Parisien. When they see these beautiful crops spring up from dry, rocky soil, they get “teary-eyed” at the work God has done.

Also, the Poul Mirak Co-operatif (Chicken Co-op) and

“Farmer John’s” butcher shop are growing! People like Mr. and Madamn Vela have remarkable testimonies about how their lives have changed thanks to the ATC. Madamn Vela, her husband, and children were rescued from the garbage dumps in Truttier, Haiti thanks to donors who sponsored the cost of their new home in Miracle Village.

Mr. Vela trained under Wilner’s watchful eye to grow vegetables in God’s soil, making a wonderful living. He has gone from the “garbage dump” to the “garden,” and is now proudly providing “food for life!” You can see the happiness and dignity he now has in these pictures of him harvesting and sharing the results of his transforming work. We will continue to feed and help create jobs for the poor in Haiti! Thank you, partners!

Those wanting to come for a year or so need first make several “short-term” team trips, whether it is a Mobile Medical Clinic, Evangelistic Outreach, Construction Team, or Food Distribution Team. This way, you can tell if the Lord is leading you to come for a longer period of time.
