D il a t io n / C o mp r e ssi o n In this small two week exercise it was asked of each student to design a small path keeping in mind two important concepts, dilation and compression. No terrain was given to us, just a white sheet of paper, due to this unusual simple freedom I decided to make something equaly simple with a free form. The concept of Dilation and Compression are executed through the compression and dilation of the excavated space thus creating an unsual form very true and connected to both words.

A nt iqu e sh o p + A p a r tme n ts The objective of this exercise was to create an Antique Shop with a connection to a Art Gallery plus an apartment for the owner of the building. The site is situated in Lisbon on a thin but very busy street, the main idea was to create a patio with out losing completly the connection to the street. The final concept was to create a breach in the street where the building is located and excavate a new space in the facade packed street, through this process an open but protected space opens up for all people to enjoy while following the programe requirements.

Urban Design L is bo n X
This exercise was executed in the subject of Urbanism as a proposal for a large abandoned lot to create a new base urban plan, two studies where done, one about the area of Ajuda, where the site was located and another of the Alfama area in Lisbon, the old Mours city, that area is organized with a chaotic organic mesh that creates intimate and village like spaces within the city.
Lisbon X Uma nova Ajuda
Year 3, 1st Semester, 2017 Ajuda, Lisbon
Keeping the mesh of Alfama as a reference point it was decided to use its long and rich history to help shape the proposal, the first urban mesh in historic times in Lisbon and Alfama was the Roman mesh of blocks with the North/South and East/West avenues, Cardo&Decumanno, after inserting the Roman grid the Alfama concept developed around the almost but not quite random and chaotic breaks of that grid, the objective was to give a modern but pragmatic rule to the area while still creating interest points with diferences generated from the more organic mesh of the mours.

Study of the Urban Evolution Different types of meshes
It was of extreme importance that the new design adapted to the area fully and so the proposal utilized axis continuations and new circulation flows to adjust properly to the already growing area. In the end the final proposal creates a residential area that has intimate and protected areas from the confusion of the city whilst still being merged and connected with it.
I m a gina ti o n + F r e e Ti me The following drawings are about imaginary spaces in unlikely places and objects, the series shown speak of a plant that mutates and grows to became a space that holds people through its own basic structure or the shapes of a rose taken out of its scale and used as an inspiration for new volumes, spaces or a building complex, this drawings are representative of how I dream and create concepts that can be later on used in projects.

Communal House I nt e r ge n e r a c i o n a l H u b
The Communal House exercise focused on creating a common house with multiple uses in terms of age range of its users and the activities performed in it. The requirements for this public building included a gymnasium, indoor pool, seven activity rooms a cafe and small office space. The location of the site is in Lisbon on a central old neighboorhood that lost most of its life during the last decade. The main objective was to create a diferent and modern piece of architecture, especially considering the very degraded adjacent buildings to recreate interest and possibly investment in the area by leading with example and showing the public, the area holds imense potencial.

Fragmentos A r ch it e c tu r e I n te r n
In the summer of 2017 I interned at Fragmentos de Arquitectura in Lisbon for two months, whilst in the firm I worked in projets with scales ranging from a street, usually regarding reahabiltations to the scale of a city block namely the new urban entrance and supermarket/Apartments complex that will be the new entrance to the city of Cascais in Portugal. I personally assisted with various projects and felt my opinion was heard and sometimes (when it was good) even followed, besides that, I worked with renderings, 3d modeling as well general CAD work.

Prototype C r ys t a l
The Prototype was an exercise made to push the limits of a small space and it consisted off making a volume that could be a home for 5 people with all the regular ammenities in a 25 sm2 floor plan. When designing such a small and condensed object my first preocupation was the aspect of having 5 people in such a space whilst making sure the volume offered plenty of natural ligth and a feeling of openess. To solve this problem two key ideas where utlized, the first was the shape and the second the base material. The proposed volume has its concept based in the idea of tricking the human eye into thinking the space is bigger than it is, to acomplish that, a geometric form sliced from a cube was designed to make it so when someone enters the volume a big plane of glass that brings natural light to the inside creates a feeling of being outside while being inside.
The lines that shape the volume and thus its window push the eyes to look up torwards the sky. The center of the volume is a multifunctional open space that has the kitchen the livinging area and the bathroom, the idea of this Crystal doensĘźt just come from its irregular shape but from the materials chosen. Translucid Concrete which is regular concrete with glass fibre inserted into it is utilized to make the shell thus creating a translucid object that glows at night and is never dark during the day. The object in the end, is a singular space that has plenty of natural light, airflow and feels bigger than it really is.
