Change is Coming
By Dr. Brian Basinger Editor, LDA Journal EDITOR
As I sat watching the vote totals come in on election day, I realized one thing: change is coming. No matter who would win the presidential election, we were going to have a different president than the one we’ve had for the last four years. We would have our first woman president or the second president to serve two non-consecutive terms. Either way, significant changes were going to happen.
Last month in New Orleans, I sat in the ADA House of Delegates meetings for four days serving as a delegate from north Louisiana and realized one thing: change is coming. I’d argue that membership has never been more important, but national membership numbers have continued to decline in recent years. The LDA is holding steady at around 72%, but the ADA is at just a little over 50% now. To remain the recognizable voice of dentists to legislators and leaders nationally, that number needs to stay above the 50% mark. The ADA has a lot of inertia in its current membership strategy, but organizational restructuring has been taking place behind the scenes. In fact, in 2025, a big proposed change in the membership model is being rolled out. Six states are testing a new way of approaching membership. Instead of a one-size-fits-all approach (and consequently one-pricefits-all), the ADA is taking an “a la carte” approach. Hopefully this will prove to be successful in those states testing it and we’ll start to see a turnaround in the membership numbers there. If it doesn’t work, then something else will have to be done. Either way, significant changes are going to happen.
I have three sons, and they’re all mostly grown now. My youngest is going to graduate from college in the Spring and has been accepted to dental school. My middle child is currently in dental school (see the opposite page ). He also got engaged over the summer and is getting married in March. My oldest son is a physical therapist. The company he works for was purchased recently, so there’s some uncertainty there. And he’s
been dating someone for several years, so another daughter-in-law-to-be might be on her way (hint, hint). Not one of these things is under my control, but no matter what, significant changes are going to happen.
Now, I’m not usually one of the first to embrace change because I’m pretty comfortable most of the time with the status quo. However, I also know that if we don’t change, we’re going to be left behind. Whether that’s in our practice or our personal lives, I don’t think any of us started out with the finished product. So get ready and try to embrace it the best you can because if I know one thing it’s this: change is coming.
"Change is the law of life. And those who look only to the past and present are certain to miss the future."

It’s No Surprise: Dental School is a Busy Time!
By Carson Basinger D2 Dental Student at LSUSD
Of all my Journal entries thus far, this one might be the most eventful! Last I wrote, school was in full swing, and my classmates and I were rapidly approaching our white coat ceremony, which has since come and gone in the blink of an eye. Since then, school has remained fairly busy, didactically. We’ve also started fixed prosthodontics and have been learning all different types of crown preps (which has been a lot more challenging than I thought!). The biggest development is that we’ve finally seen our first operative patients! When I was assigned
my patient, my D4 informed me that she only speaks Spanish. For many of my classmates, this wouldn’t have posed a challenge; however, I took French in high school and therefore know very, very little Spanish! Thankfully, the patient brought her son to translate and my classmate that was assisting me had a good grasp on conversational Spanish, so the appointment was a breeze! I chose for my first procedure to be a class 1 resin on #31 which was the easiest and least extensive restoration needed by my patient. After asking her the simple questions I wrote down in Spanish about her medical history and taking her vitals, I received my start check and got going! The thing I was most nervous about was actually the injection, not even the restoration itself. After the patient was properly numb, my assistant and I put on the rubber dam and got to work. An hour and halfish later, I was all done and I escorted the patient out of the clinic. Since then, I’ve seen the same patient two more times, with each time going smoother
than the last. After that first appointment, I’ve been able to do a class 2 and another class 1 on a buccal pit lesion that nearly went into the pulp! Our operative requirements for this year include a total of 20 restorations –composites including 3 class I, 3 class III, 3 class V and amalgams including 3 class I, and 3 class II restorations in either composite or amalgam. It seems so much more real that I’m going to be a dentist now that I’ve been able to actually see a real, living patient and all of my hard work so far seems to be paying off!
Outside of school, my fiancé and I went to see the Taylor Swift concert in New Orleans, which was quite the show! Not long after that was Halloween and all the costume parties that went along with it. We had a “groovy” time dressing up as Austin Powers and Vanessa Kensington! Also in October, the annual ADA SmileCon® conference came to New Orleans where I got to experience all the activity, vendors, and products the exhibit hall had to offer. The free samples were definitely a highlight. Last but not least, when we heard Alabama was coming to Tiger Stadium this year, we knew we just had to go see LSU play them! Despite the little bit of rain and the score, it was a crazy atmosphere and we had a great time cheering on the Tigers.
My class and I attending our LSUSD White Coat Ceremony.
Now, I’m working with a few real-life patients in clinic.
My Dad and I loved exploring SmileCon® in New Orleans!
My fiancé and I turned heads at every Halloween party we attended.
IGreetings from the LDA!
By Dr. Lance Savoie President, LDA
t has been a very busy year thus far. The achievement I’m most proud of is the passage of the MLR Transparency bill. We are one of two states who were able to pass an MLR-related bill in 2024.
I’d like to extend a thank you to our member dentists who volunteered in various roles at SmileCon 2024 in New Orleans! I’d also like to thank Dr. Glenn Dubroc. He served as the local chair for SmileCon,® and did an incredible job. The ADA House of Delegates convened in conjunction with the conference, and the House accomplished a lot! Here’s a short list of highlights:
• Elected new officers,
• Discussed compact agreements,
• Strategized about improving membership rates,
• Addressed workforce shortages,
• Detailed strategic planning initiatives, and
• Informed the attendees about leadership development opportunities.
In other news, we have established a task force to address the current shortage of dental hygienists in the state. We’re working with the dental school’s new dean and a long-time LDA member, Dr. John Gallo, to increase enrollment in our existing hygiene programs as well as developing new opportunities throughout the state. For our northern Louisiana folks, we’ve met with Kim Wharton of the University of Louisiana at Monroe to discuss expanding their program.
For our Louisiana dental assistants, the LDA has taken the lead in offering EDDA courses, which are the first step toward getting an EDDA certification from the Louisiana State Board of Dentistry. Take a look at the chart for all of the upcoming 2025 courses we have planned!
LDA members, the holiday season is hectic, but I want to encourage you to remember that the LDA is offering all kinds of leadership opportunities. From the first component meeting to an LDA presidency, the LDA is here to let you lead. For those who are new to LDA leadership, try these tasks to kickstart your leadership with us.
• Attend a component meeting and meet your component’s president.
• Get familiar with your component’s representative on the LDA Board. Take them to grab a coffee and chat about their experiences!
• Call the LDA at (225) 926-1986 and let the LDA staff help you get involved!
Thank y’all for an incredible year. I am eager to see what comes next for the LDA. Together we can make a difference in dentistry!

AADA Came to New Orleans and Let the Good Times Roll
SmileCon® and ADA House of Delegates Roll in October
Annette Droddy Executive Director, LDA
s many of you know, the American Dental Association (ADA) hosted its annual SmileCon® and ADA House of Delegates in October in New Orleans. Officer elections were held October 22 during the final day of the House of Delegates.
Dr. Brett Kessler of Denver, Colorado, is the newly-installed 161st ADA President. He has chaired several ADA committees including the Diversity and Inclusion Committee, the Audit Committee, and the ADA Science and Research Institute’s Board of Directors. Dr. Richard Rosato, an oral surgeon from Concord, New Hampshire, became the ADA President-Elect.
Dr. Tamara Berg, a dentist from Yukon, Oklahoma, was voted ADA second vice president. She is from the 12th district, which includes Louisiana. Dr. Cody Graves, a general dentist from Goldthwaite, Texas, was voted ADA treasurer.
ADA House of Delegates members voted to keep the ADA dues at $570, which is the same rate as last year. Additionally, after moving from strategic planning to strategic forecasting in 2024, the 2025 ADA HOD voted to adopt the inaugural strategic forecast. By adopting the strategic forecast, the HOD approved the priorities, initiatives, success criteria, and targeted goals that we will work toward as a tripartite. The action groups (Public Profession, Direct to Dentist, and Tripartite) will review the information and adjust plans to meet the changing needs and goals of the association. We have numerous Louisiana representatives taking part in aspects of the forecast, including Dr. Kristi Soileau, Dr. Mark Chaney, Dr. King Scott, and myself, Annette Droddy. LSUSD D4 Brooke Badeaux also holds an ASDA member position.
Due to the concerns over workforce issues, particularly hygiene workforce issues, there was much discussion on increasing dental allied professionals in the workforce. One important resolution included having the ADA urge the Council on Dental Accreditation (CODA) to revise the standards for each of the allied dental education programs regarding the faculty-student ratios to align with the predoctoral dental education programs. The resolution also urges CODA to adopt other language that would align with predoctoral programs, including having the number, distribution, and qualifications of faculty and staff to be sufficient to meet the dental program’s stated mission.
According to the ADA Health Policy Institute, survey data tracks dental team recruitment challenges. In the third quarter of 2024, for instance, 33.9% of dentists nationwide indicated they were recruiting or had recruited a dental hygienist in the prior three months. Among those dentists, 91.7% indicated recruitment was very challenging or extremely challenging.
We at the LDA have noticed, and our LDA president, Dr. Lance Savoie, has created a task force to work on this issue. It will be an ongoing task force, and you can read more about that in his president’s article. We will continue to do what is necessary in working with hygiene programs, higher education and the state board to facilitate more hygienists in the state.
Thank you to those delegates and alternate delegates who represent Louisiana in the ADA House of Delegates: Drs. Brian Basinger, Mark Chaney, Sean Owens, Marty Garrett, Vince DiLeo, Stephanie Weaver, Glen Corcoran, Aaron Mangum, Mike Luminais, Steve Morgan, Lance Savoie, King Scott, and Kristi Soileau.
Special thanks to Dr. Glenn Dubroc for serving as the SmileCon® local arrangements chair on behalf of the LDA. As usual, he did an amazing job recruiting volunteers. We had 105 Louisiana volunteers serving at the meeting. We can never thank him enough for his hard work.

A2025: A Year in Review
By Dr. Jay Dumas President, Louisiana State Board of Dentistry
s the end of 2024 approaches, I would like to take a moment to express my gratitude to my fellow members of the Louisiana State Board of Dentistry for their dedication and hard work throughout the year. Their support during my presidency has been invaluable. They have attended meetings, served as exam graders, and reviewed complaints, all while ensuring the public’s access to safe dental care in Louisiana. I deeply appreciate their efforts to support our mission.
As I have mentioned previously, board members review public complaints submitted to our office. The first thing the board does when a complaint comes in is to seek the dentist’s perspective. The board does realize that being notified of a public complaint can be very stressful for a dentist. Most of the complaints we receive are resolved without any disciplinary action by the board. We have seen a steady increase in complaints that stem from fee disputes or rude treatment. These types of complaints are not violations of the LA Dental Practice Act. The board strongly encourages licensees to address any fee disputes with patients directly before they escalate to a board complaint. Often, these types of complaints can be resolved with good communication directly with patients.
This year, the board implemented a new fingerprinting process for background checks on dental and hygiene license applicants. The new system allows us to receive criminal background check results more expediently. Applicants can now schedule an appointment online at IdentoGo.com and go in person to various locations located throughout the state and country. With this new method, background checks are usually received the same day as the fingerprinting appointment at IdentoGo locations.
The Welcome Home Act signed earlier this year has already streamlined the application process for qualifying candidates wishing to come practice in Louisiana. These two new additions to licensing processes will significantly shorten the time from the application to the license being issued. For more information, please contact the board office.
Office inspections are continuing statewide. If you or your office is notified of an upcoming inspection, please feel free to reach out to Inspector Alexandra Smith with any questions. The majority of practice locations have no violations and are reflective of Louisiana dentists who are committed to maintaining the highest standard of care. The purpose of these inspections is not to find fault, but to help ensure Louisiana dentists are compliant with CDC guidelines and infection and control standards. Inspections also provide an opportunity to meet with a board staff member who can answer many questions not just pertaining to the inspection.
As a reminder, if your dental license is up for renewal, please complete your renewal by the December 31, deadline. You must
have completed your 2023-2024 continuing education requirements and upload your certificates to CE Broker by that date. If you need to make changes to your license, such as dropping anesthesia permits, or if you have general questions, please contact the board office well before the deadline. Please note the office will be closed on December 31.
I would like to thank our Executive Director Dr. Rusty Hickam; Assistant Executive Director Erin Conner; board staff members Rachel Daniel, Alexx Smith, Iris Pourciau, Meg Slacks; and board counsel Kirk Groh. The changes made to enhance the application process and background checks were integrated seamlessly by the board staff. With these changes, we are moving closer to a multistate licensure compact that could help streamline licensure even more.
As my term as president comes to an end, I can say that 2024 has been an impactful year for dentistry in Louisiana. I

TRenovations and Leadership Recruitment at the LSU School of Dentistry
By John R. Gallo, III, DDS, MS Dean and Professor, LSUHSC School of Dentistry
his year has been full of change for the Louisiana State University School of Dentistry. As a result, opportunities for transformation and advancement are abundant. As we embrace these opportunities, I am excited to share with you some recent developments that are laying the foundation for growth and continued success in our school’s programs and initiatives.
Renovation of the Third-Floor Clinic
Recently, we have completed a comprehensive renovation of the third-floor clinic. This renovation involved replacing our dental chairs, all cabinetry, and all countertops. We also brightened the space with fresh wall paint and streamlined operational procedures with improved centralized natural gas and nitrous oxide systems. Thus far, these renovations
have created a more welcoming and efficient environment for students and patients.
Our clinics are designed to simulate a real-world dental practice that provides our students with some of the best clinical training in the country. The recent and ongoing upgrades to our clinics ensure that our students receive the best possible experience and that our patients receive the best possible treatment.
Leadership Recruitment
In addition to our renovations, we are searching actively for skilled individuals to join our faculty and staff. Currently, we are interviewing candidates for several major leadership positions: Department Chair of Prosthodontics, Department Chair of Endodontics, Department Chair of Pediatric Dentistry, Associate Dean of Clinical Affairs, and Director of Development & Community Affairs.
These roles are vital to our mission, as they significantly impact the educational experiences of our students and programs. We are confident that we will continue to excel in our teaching and clinical practices with the right leaders.
Strategic Planning for Future Upgrades
There has been a growing recognition of the school’s structural and technological needs in recent months. With funding approved by the state for facility upgrades, LSUSD faculty, students, and staff are now meeting with an architectural firm hired by the LSU Health Sciences Center to identify the school's needs and effectively allocate the funds for these upgrades.
Early renovation plans include many improvements, such as structural and technology upgrades across our clinics, classrooms, meeting rooms, and food service stations. Another exciting aspect of recent discussion is the potential inclusion of an on-campus exercise facility. We are committed to ensuring the well-being of our students, faculty, and staff, and a dedicated space for fitness would help us come closer to creating an environment that encourages physical and mental wellness.
Looking Ahead
As we continue in these renovations and leadership searches, I am optimistic about the future of LSUSD. Our commitment to providing exceptional educational and patient experiences is unchanging. With the support of our faculty, staff, students, and the wider LSU community, we are well-positioned to enter this next chapter of improvement and development.

Leading Your Business in Self-Assessment and Strategic Planning
By Chad Olivier CEO®,CEPA, CERTIFIED FINANCIAL PLANNER™
“If you fail to plan, you are planning to fail,” a familiar adage, rings true for business planning today. Leading your dental practice may start to feel like you’re running on autopilot, but this is not the time to “set it and forget it1.” At Olivier Group, we assist many business leaders with intentional planning to set into motion a dynamic strategy for long-term success. This planning involves a thoughtful self-assessment process, inspired by Peter F. Drucker’s book, The Five Most Important Questions. 2 The Five Most Important Questions presents the reader with the following five, seemingly simple, but profound, questions for business leaders to ask themselves about the organizations they lead:
1. What is your mission? What is the organization’s reason for being—its purpose? Your mission is personal and has deep meaning. A clear mission inspires employees, and as leaders, it's your responsibility to ensure everyone understands and aligns with the mission. Your actions should always align with your mission.
2. Who must be satisfied for the organization to achieve results? In a dental practice, the answer includes your dental patients. At Olivier Group, the answer is our clients. This answer can also include your employees, as their satisfaction is vital for everyone’s success.
3. What does the answer to #2 value? Know your patient. What are their needs? Questions two and three are designed as a selfassessment because the answers may evolve. Drucker reminds us, “Leadership should not even try to guess at the answers but should always go to the customers in a systematic quest for those answers.”3
4. What are your results? To assess whether progress is being made toward the achievement of your long-term objectives, you need to measure what matters. As Peter Drucker stated, “If you can’t measure it, you can’t improve it.” You can’t know whether you are successful unless you define and track success. For some, profit is a great measure of success. Drucker agrees, “In business, you can debate whether profit is really an adequate measuring stick but without it, there is no business in the long term.”4
5. What is your plan? In your organization’s strategic plan, it may be time to abandon what is not working for you anymore and strengthen what is working. All the while, look toward innovation, opportunities, and emerging successes. This step involves taking action and budgeting.
“The self-assessment process is a method for assessing what you are doing, why you are doing it, and what you must do to improve
an organization’s performance.”5 This is a continuous process with ongoing adjustments as conditions change. Often, this assessment is facilitated by business planning professionals, and that’s where Olivier Group can step in alongside you, as business leaders, to guide the planning process.

YA Review of the LDA EDDA Course
By Jeanne McFall Director of Conference Services, LDA
ou might have seen our EDDA course on social media, in emails, or on our events page. We have EDDA sessions every few weeks in different parts of the state, and they have quickly become a sought-after offering in our suite of professional development events. After such a comprehensive statewide rollout of our EDDA course, I’d love to give you a few details about the 2024 EDDA Courses we’ve hosted.
LDA has been offering EDDA courses since October 2023. We revamped the course to help your dental assistants spend less time out of the office. Students learn on their own time through videos, PowerPoints, and quizzes. The students join us via Zoom for their on-paper test on a Thursday and for their hands-on, in-person clinical test on a Saturday. An EDDA course like ours is a critical step in earning an EDDA certification. We host 32 students per class, but classes fill up fast!
In 2024 we have had:
3 courses in New Orleans
4 courses in Gonzales
3 courses in Lafayette
10 total EDDA courses
LDA is proud to say that we have about 318 assistants who will have passed our EDDA course by the end of 2024. If you’d like to schedule an EDDA course for your dental assistant, you need to know about our discount! We love offering a discount to our assistants working for LDA members. The discounted price for LDA members is $699. Non-member dentists’ assistants pay $899. There will be at least 10 more courses in 2025.
LDA Edda Courses
The Expanded Dental Duty Assistant (EDDA) certification is the next step for dental assistants who want to perform expanded duty dental assisting functions as specified by Louisiana law.
This is NOT a beginner course. You must have 6 months of chair-side assisting experience to register for this course.

IDental Lifeline Network Louisiana Program Transforms Life of Cancer Patient
By Dr. Robert Camenzuli DDS Volunteer
ndividuals with health issues often face significant obstacles in accessing dental care. According to recent data from the American Dental Association (ADA)’s Health Policy Institute, dental care poses the highest cost barrier when compared to other health services, and disparities in dental care use and cost barriers to that care have remained steady for over two decades.
Dealing with both health issues and a challenging cost barrier, accessing dental care is a challenge for individuals like Patricia, 68, who lives in New Orleans. For 45 years, Patricia enjoyed working as a nurse and making a difference in the lives of her patients. Unfortunately, that all changed when she was diagnosed with stage 3 lung cancer, which forced her to retire from doing what she loved and resulted in costly treatment. In addition to her lung cancer, Patricia also struggles with high blood pressure, high cholesterol, anxiety, depression, and fibromyalgia, which leaves her chronically fatigued, in pain, and reliant on a cane.
Along with her medical challenges, Patricia’s oral health was another issue. In 2018, Patricia used money from her father’s passing to have implants done by a dentist that is no longer practicing. She had been dealing with gum disease that exposed the implants and caused food to get stuck under and behind them, making it difficult to eat and leaving Patricia in pain. Surviving on limited resources and with overwhelming medical bills, getting comprehensive dental treatment seemed impossible for Patricia. The care she needed to eat properly and live pain-free seemed out of reach.
DDS Volunteers Make a Difference
Thankfully, a caring team of DDS volunteers stepped in to help! Patricia was treated through the DDS program by Dr. Robert Camenzuli, who provided extensive care to get Patricia’s oral health back on track. He and his staff were able to provide Patricia with treatment that included restorations and adjustments, bridge re-cementation, comprehensive cleanings, and a partial denture generously donated by M & R Dental Lab. With the help of these volunteers, Patricia received thousands of dollars in donated care that restored her oral health and allowed her to eat pain-free again!
“I am no longer afraid to go to the dentist – finally, at age 68, I can go to the dentist by myself. From the first day, I felt like I had known Dr. Camenzuli for all the years I have been alive, and he and his staff have been very good to me,” said Patricia of her experience in the DDS program. “I will forever appreciate them– I am just so impressed by the comfort I have now, being able to chew my food and not have any pain. This is the best thing you all have done for me. I will forever be grateful for Dental Lifeline Network and for Dr. Camenzuli.”
Patricia, who sings for the city of New Orleans, is also happy with the way her sinuses have cleared up as a result of the dental care she received.
Dental Lifeline Network’s Vision and How You Can Help
Dental Lifeline Network has a simple vision: ensure all vulnerable adults have access to life-changing dental care. For 50 years, DLN has worked to make this a reality through a network
of compassionate volunteer dentists and labs. Currently, 355 dentists and 77 labs volunteer in Louisiana through the DDS program, and this dedicated group of volunteers provides essential oral healthcare to those who need it most. Dental Lifeline Network • Louisiana’s Donated Dental Services program has connected over 5,600 individuals in need with necessary dental treatments in Louisiana, reaching over $12.7 million in donated services since the program’s inception in 1987.
When you volunteer with Dental Lifeline Network, you make a difference for patients like Patricia. You're not just restoring smiles; you're creating brighter futures.
“I volunteer for the DDS program because living in service to others brings meaning to life,” said Dr. Camenzuli. “There is a need to care for the patients in the program, and together we can increase the dental health of everyone in our community.”
There are currently patients in Louisiana who are awaiting the essential dental care that could transform their lives. Learn how easy it is for you to change lives with DLN and sign up to be a volunteer today by visiting WhyIDental.org.
Don't wait! Sign up to be a volunteer by scanning the QR code or visiting WhyIDental.org and you can transform the lives of individuals in need of lifechanging dental care.

INTRODUCING
NDX Aligners
Straightening Smiles, Growing Practices
“The NDX lab team provides high quality, comfortable fitting aligners that yield excellent and consistent results. As a General Dentist, I am happy to report that the addition of NDX Aligners to your practice offers a teamoriented approach to achieving successful and predictable orthodontic outcomes — an excellent in-house service for your patients.”
By Robert McDermott President/CEO, iCoreConnect (an LDA/LDS Endorsed Company)
or many dentists, the clinical side of a practice is second nature, but when it comes to the business side—particularly managing dental revenue cycle management (RCM)—it’s easy to feel overwhelmed.
Navigating insurance claims, tracking payments, and ensuring a steady cash flow can seem like a far cry from what you learned in dental school. But the good news is, mastering RCM doesn’t have to be intimidating. With the right strategies and tools, you can build confidence in managing your practice’s finances and focus on what you do best: caring for your patients.
For many dentists, RCM can be overwhelming due to its complexity and the high stakes involved. The fear of mismanaging cash flow or not getting paid on time can create unnecessary stress and distract from patient care.
Unlike clinical dentistry, which is the core of dental training, dentists often lack formal education in financial management and business operations. This lack of familiarity can make the nuances of RCM—such as understanding dental insurance coding, claims submission, and reimbursement timelines—seem like a maze. Missteps in these areas can lead to costly errors, delayed payments, and significant cash flow issues that jeopardize the sustainability of a practice.
Additionally, the evolving landscape of dental insurance adds another layer of complexity. Navigating the differences between in-network and out-of-network reimbursements, and understanding denial management can feel like an endless administrative burden.
However, a streamlined RCM process ensures patients experience fewer billing errors, quicker insurance processing, and transparent communication about their financial responsibility. As a result, patients are more satisfied with their overall experience, and the practice builds a reputation for efficiency and reliability.
So how do you do that?
1. Invest in the Right RCM Software
Technology plays a critical role in simplifying RCM. Automating routine tasks like appointment scheduling, insurance verification, and claim submission can help. The right software provides real-time analytics, allowing you to monitor the financial health of your practice with ease. Automation also reduces the chances of human error, reducing claim denials and helping to ensure payments are on time.
2. Understand Dental Insurance Plans
Dental insurance can be complicated, and each plan has its own set of rules regarding reimbursement and coverage. To confidently manage RCM, understanding the various insurance plans your practice accepts and how they impact your revenue. This also allows you to communicate effectively with both insurers and patients about coverage, co-pays, and out-of-pocket costs, minimizing billing issues.
When this knowledge is paired with automated insurance verification, you can be sure your patients are getting the care they need and deserve, communication is clear regarding coverage, and your practice is reimbursed for services in a timely manner.
3. Prioritize Patient Communication
Clear and consistent communication with patients about their financial responsibilities is vital. Before treatments, provide detailed cost estimates, explain insurance coverage, and outline payment options. Automated insurance verifications can help you complete these tasks and schedule procedures and treatments before the next appointment.
4. Stay Updated on Industry Changes
Dental billing regulations and insurance policies are constantly evolving. It’s important to stay informed about changes in dental coding, insurance reimbursements, and healthcare laws that could affect your practice. Subscribe to dental industry newsletters, attend relevant webinars, and network with peers to keep up with the latest developments. Also, an automated insurance verification solution can help ensure you’ve got the most up-to-date patient benefit information. With these strategies, dentists can take control of their RCM processes with confidence, ensuring their practices remain financially sound while providing excellent patient care and ensuring patients maximize their benefits.
