I wanna do A Go Rio boat cruise on the San

! t a h T by Kimberly A. Suta

Antonio River Walk is a rite of passage for visitors and new residents. Locals get their refresher boat ride when entertaining out of town visitors. There is no better way to experience the beauty and history of this 301-year-old city. What you may not know, however, is you can take your riverboat ride up a notch with cocktails and dining cruises – for both private and community events. Even former Spurs superstar Manu Ginobili had his retirement party on a boat! GO RIO CRUISES Go Rio Cruises won the city contract in October of 2017 and have been transporting and entertaining thousands of visitors and locals alike ever since. The boat captains, many of whom are Certified Tourism Ambassadors (CTA), are some of the most knowledgeable and passionate advocates of San Antonio you’ll ever meet. You’ll learn so much more about the city’s downtown and River Walk landscape than you can ever imagine. Boat captains impart their wisdom with an injection of humor. Think of them as stand-up comedians who read the crowd and adjust their act accordingly. On the cruises, you’ll learn insightful tidbits about the city that even residences don’t know, such as the reason why there’s not an abundance of mosquitos on the river. African Nile tilapia, which were brought over during the depression to feed the hungry, thankfully maintain the river by eating the mosquito larvae. 12 RIO Magazine
