Leeds College of Art BA (Hons) ILLUSTRATION LAUIL603 Extended Practice
Name Louis Byrne Date 16/05/18 Rationale To build a portfolio of work that effectively addresses a range of applications within illustration, whilst remaining visually consistent and remaining sincere to my core principles as a practitioner. I want to apply my work to contexts where I feel it fits naturally, such as music and promotion, but I also want to challenge myself to work out how to combine my way of working with applications I am unfamiliar with, namely narrative and character. I want to produce work that continues to develop my understanding of digital processes and that helps me to refine these processes so as to produce a portfolio of work that embodies my own distinct and considered visual signature. Themes / Subjects Although the themes of my work will be dictated primarily by the specific briefs, I do want to focus on •
Surreal and fantastic imagery, floating shapes, strange geometry and abstract depictions of normal life Striking visual contrast, whether this be between wildly different textures, the contrast between flat graphics and 3D or contrast intended for dramatic tension within the confines of a larger brief
