MEMORANDUM FOR THE RECORD SUBJECT: Commanders Policy Letter # 15, Special Medical Personnel Considerations. 1. This policy letter will address the following issues: (a) Licensed Practical Nurses (LPN), (b) Emergency Medical Technicians (EMT), (c) 2 Year Registered Nurses. 2. Licensed Practical Nurses and Emergency Medical Technicians will no longer be assessed into the Tennessee State Guard as Warrant Officers. All current LPN’s and EMT’s can remain in the TNSG as Warrant Officers until, through normal attrition, their billets are vacated. 3. From the date of this signed policy letter, all Licensed Practical Nurses who apply for entry into the Tennessee State Guard will be assessed at a minimum of Sergeant/E5, with the MOS of 68W20M6, (Licensed Practical Nurse). Emergency Medical Technicians who apply for entry into the Tennessee State Guard will be assessed at a minimum of Corporal/E4, with the MOS of 68W10 (Combat Medic). Advanced certifications, prior active duty, National Guard or Army Reserve service may allow the applicant to enter the TNSG at a higher grade; a recruit’s final entry grade will be determined by the Enlisted Assessment Board. 4. Two (2) Year Registered Nurses can be assessed into the Tennessee State Guard under the following stipulation. Nurses with 2 year college degrees from an accredited School of Nursing (University/College) can serve for 4 years up to the grade of Captain/O3. If at the end of the four years the Officer has not achieved a BSN degree, the Officer can be discharged. Continued service in the TNSG without a BSN degree can only be waived by the Commanding General, TNSG. 5. Accessions for Nurse Practitioners, Physician Assistants, and other professional specialties will be in accordance with TNSG Regulation 600-10, Chapter 2, Table 1, on page 18. 6.
