LETTER FROM THE DIRECTOR:

Dear friends, God has given each of you a gift from his great variety of spiritual gifts. Use them well to serve one another. — 1 Peter 4:10 (NLT) May 2017 marked the close of our ninth year. This excerpt from Peter was a founding verse for provideInc, and as I look back over the past nine years, I see numerous examples of people embracing their God-given gifts to serve others through our programs and service projects. I am humbled and grateful. In addition to reviewing the 2016-2017 fiscal year, this annual report focuses on nine lives of people who have shared their time, talents, and treasures with us in unique and impactful ways, as well as some historical provideInc highlights. Thank you to each person who has, even once, connected with us. I pray that you have discovered, or will discover, the joy of serving God through serving others in Jesus’ name. With gratitude, Lori Naseef

THE PHILOGENE FAMILY: The Transformation

By: Sydney Naseef, provideInc Communications Intern

During our mission trip to Mission of Hope Haiti (MOH) in the summer of 2015, our team of fifteen—paired with a team of sixteen from Alabama—visited the village of Source-Matelas on July 17, 2015. This is where we met the Philogene family. This family of eight was living in a home created from tarps and corrugated metal as a result of the 2010 earthquake. The parents, Fedner and Lucienne, asked us to pray that they would be blessed with a more sturdy and stable home. Pictured left are images from our July 17th visit with the Philogene family at their make-shift home. That very night, an intense rainstorm washed the fragile house away, leaving the family without a roof over their heads. The following day, Mission of Hope informed us of what happened to the family home, causing a stirring in our hearts as we had grown attached to the parents and loving children.

On July 18, the day after the storm, skilled members of our team and the Alabama team assisted Fedner Philogene in rebuilding their home. The members of our teams purchased and helped pour cement in order to lay a more stable foundation. They also assisted in some of the initial rebuilding. It became clear, however, that this task was too big to finish on our own. Our Michigan/ Alabama team was in agreement—upon returning home to the United States, we would partner together in raising the $6,600 needed for a sturdy, MOH-built cinderblock home. 07

Through our Facebook fundraising page “Provide a Home for a Haitian Family,” we were able to reach our goal in a few short months. By September 12, 2015, the full amount was collected and mailed, along with a “Congratulations on your new home!” card— ”Felistasron Nouvo Kay!” in Creole. MOH sent us photos of the house’s progression in succession. On November 30, 2015, the house was officially completed. The Philogene family moved into the new home on December 2. They were able to celebrate Christmas 2016 in their brand new home—“Jwaye Nwel!”

THANK YOU TO ALL WHO CONTRIBUTED: Brian & Kelly Milby (AL) Corey & Beverlee Galstan (VA) David & Anita Leonard (MI) David & Betsy Sonnier (VA) Frank & Kay Ryde (MI) Jamie & Kris McBride (MI) Joslyn Avenue Presbyterian Church (MI) Laura Hogue (AL) Lizzie Vojtisek (MI) Malcolm & Marcy Blacken (VA) Margaret Hale (AL) Providence Baptist Church (AL) Tammy Pruitt (AL) Tom & Rita Thomas (MI)

Photos, left, show what remained of the house after the storm. The current home is pictured below. One of our 2015 teammates, Kris McBride, had the opportunity to return to Haiti in April 2017. With the help of MOH staff, she visited the Philogene family again and shared these heartwarming photos.

Brad Giaimo—a great friend and wise financial advisor—was instrumental in helping us transition from a basement-based 501(c)3 to a nonprofit with a location of our own. Brad didn’t simply offer ideas—he and Q3 Asset Management partner, Adam Quiring, launched a fundraiser on our behalf called “Home Base.” The fundraiser’s name had a double meaning as Q3 donated based on the number of home runs scored during the 2011 Detroit Tigers baseball season.

Frank Ryde—we are very grateful for our friendship with both Frank and Kay Ryde, each of whom are gifted in ways which have been immensely helpful to us throughout the years. The Rydes have been Board Members since we were founded in May 2008. We are thankful for their continued generosity and volunteerism. In addition, as a graphic artist, Frank has been the designer of much of our provideInc visual identity and branding—including our logo, the E4:12 logo, and those of various projects.

Kathy Richardson—as a result of a partnership with Kathy and the Apples of Gold ministry she founded in Troy, MI in 2002, we are honored to welcome Kathy as a provideInc Board Member. After almost fifteen years of personal friendship and a treasured mentoring relationship with Kathy, the ability to bring what will be called “Apples of Gold Treasures” under the provideInc umbrella is a privilege. “Apples” connects mature believers with younger women to share wisdom from God’s Word. Through sharing Biblical guidance, cooking instruction, and life experiences over meals prepared together, a valuable connection is created between generations. Younger women are cared for, prayed over, and motivated to become Godly wives and mothers.

Renee Klebba—mutual hearts for service and involvement in one another’s programs initiated our connection nearly five years ago. Due to unforseen changes, the Ladies Luvin’ Charity group— co-founded by Renee—will no longer be a chapter of A Woman’s Life. Instead, Ladies Luvin’ Charity is now a registered provideInc DBA. This transition is a natural and welcome one, after three years of co-coordinating Kids Against Hunger food packaging events together. We look forward to all God has in store for us.
