Dear customer… Our autumn edition of Headlines celebrates all things great about British beer and is our first edition since the lifting of most restrictions in July. After a turbulent 18 months we are now heading towards a promising final quarter of 2021. In addition to Cask Ale Week running from 23rd September to 3rd October, other key autumn dates include Halloween, Bonfire Night and National Curry Week. We have included some fantastic deals and category advice to help you make the most of these opportunities to drive sales.

After the success of England in Euro 2020 there is huge interest in watching live football and with key domestic fixtures in both months it will pay to promote the matches and keep the momentum going in your outlets. With the Rugby League World Cup postponed until 2022 there are still some great sporting events this autumn. The 43rd Ryder Cup sees Team Europe take on the USA from 24th - 26th September and to give UNICEF a boost a star-studded Soccer Aid World X1 take on England at the Etihad in Manchester.

National Curry Week 2021 Celebrating all curry occasions

4th - 10th October

There are many options for the perfect pairing to go with a curry so it pays to promote a range of drinks. Customer choice will depend on: 1. H  ow hot the food is overall, since the hotter the food the more cooling you will want the drink. 2. Secondly the basic ingredient, whether that’s meat, fish or vegetarian. Not as important as the seasoning and the spicing but it does have some effect. As with other types of cuisine, lighter, fresher drinks go with fish and vegetable dishes and more full-flavoured ones with meat. 3. Personal preference. For example whisky could be watered down and there are also plenty of alcohol-free beers around.

To complement the spice in curry, cocktails should be fruity, refreshing and sweet to cool the taste buds and match the curry.

Spirits alone would set your mouth on fire, but diluted with a mixer and a handful of ice - it’s a whole other story.

At 3.9%, Blonde is a refreshing, full-bodied session pale ale.

ALE - 4.2% Produced to the classic original recipe, Castle Eden Ale at 4.2% has a distinctive malty sweetness from the pale and crystal malts with a rich creamy head enhanced by torrefied wheat. Host your own bonfire or make your outlet the place to go before the local firework display. • If you are holding your own bonfire, ensure it is positioned and lit on your car park or a similar open space with a large enough cordoned area to ensure customers are safe. • An outdoor bar is ideal for increased wet sales.

• Fireworks can be a great addition to your bonfire night event but should only be set off by an individual who is registered and licensed. • Special food offers such as holding a bonfire barbecue is sure to increase footfall at your venue. • Keep the children entertained with face painting and sparklers! • For an extra treat, think about selling toffee apples or marshmallow kebabs for customers to toast over a small fire pit.
