Team Duhawk
Hello From TEAM DUHAWK! We are embarking on a new academic and athletic year at Loras College. As Denise Udelhofen and I begin our second year of our administration of Duhawk Athletics, our goals remain the same. We want to teach our student-athletes to be great citizens and people through their involvement in athletics. We, also, always strive to compete at the highest level in the Iowa Conference and in the NCAA. While our season and year are new, our goals remain the same. Denise and I have worked extremely hard to rebrand what was once called the Duhawk Club. The Duhawk Club worked to financially benefit the entire department. In reorganizing this booster club, our discussions revolved around how we could move forward by garnering more support for our student-athletes and, at the same time, provide more benefits for our members. The true greatness of Loras College revolves around the people who make up this proud institution both past and present. We want to take advantage of these Duhawk relationships for our members. Our goal is to be more accessible, visible and provide more opportunity for members to celebrate and connect to Loras College Athletics. Denise, our coaching staff and I will be on the road to see and celebrate the Duhawks with our members. Consequently, we hope more alumni and friends of Loras College participate in this new program. We also hope that TEAM DUHAWK serves its members at a more beneficial level. Please consider becoming a member of TEAM DUHAWK! Serve the Duhawks, Support the Duhawks and Socialize with the Duhawks! As Always…GO Duhawks!

Chuck Yrigoyen IIAC Commissioner
Founded in 1923 and recognized as one of the top NCAA III leagues in the nation, the Iowa Intercollegiate Athletic Conference consists of nine private, liberal arts institutions. The IIAC sponsors 15 intercollegiate championships in men’s and women’s sports. The IIAC has proven to be one of the nation’s most dominant conferences, annually having many of its teams finish highly at the NCAA III national level.
IIAC MISSION STATEMENT
The Iowa Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (IIAC) consists of independent, regionally accredited, residential four-year, liberal arts colleges that share common academic philosophies and goals and that place primary emphasis on the academic progress of students. To that end the athletic programs of IIAC member institutions facilitate the intellectual, spiritual and physical development of all students, whether as participants or spectators. Members of the IIAC place highest priority on the overall quality of the educational experience of our student-athletes and their successful completion of it. Therefore, the member colleges seek to provide an environment in which athletic activities are conducted as an integral part of our student-athletes’ educational experience. In that vein, intercollegiate competition is provided by the IIAC to develop participants’ skills in selfdiscipline, teamwork, fair play, sportsmanship and ethical conduct; it is not provided primarily to serve the entertainment needs of spectators nor the talent needs of professional sports teams. Student-athletes in the IIAC should experience growth of physical and mental skills as well as an appreciation for the rewards of adequate preparation and superior performance. They also should learn to work and play with others who are unlike themselves but who are talented and productive persons. They also should experience the pride of representing an organization, not just themselves, and the responsibility of proper conduct that comes with it. But primarily, they should have the opportunity to excel in their academic work as well as in their athletic endeavors; competitive events and practice sessions will be scheduled to minimize the potential conflict between academic and athletic excellence. In sum, athletic competition in the IIAC serves to encourage our students to participate in activities beyond the classroom, to enhance skills helpful to career success, and to assist them in their general development as human beings. Loras Soccer Philosophy The philosophy of the Loras College soccer program is one of empowerment, where a successful team will be developed through development of successful individuals. This will be accomplished by creating an environment that is disciplined – focusing on hard work and achievement of goal – and oriented towards the development of team unity. Each studentathlete will be allowed the opportunity to not only develop to his or her potential as a soccer player, but also as a student and a citizen. Furthermore, through constant communication among teammates and coaches, each individual will have the opportunity to have ownership in what is being done within the team structure. Thus, every member of the team will be valued for what role they assume within the team, who they are as individuals, and as involved decision makers. Finally, athletes in the Loras soccer program will be successful in the classroom and on the soccer field through the commitment of obtaining goals (individual and team) that in turn will lead to the ultimate goals of achievement and enjoyment.

IIAC Men’s Reserve Wrap-Up Duhawks Go Undefeated During Regular Season The Loras College Men’s Reserve team had another fantastic year, showing that the program has a very bright future for years to come. The Reserves had a great year going 11-0 during their undefeated regular season, with big wins against Ashford University and University of Iowa. Unfortunately, the team fell short during the Reserve Tournament hosted at Luther. The Duhawks were asked to split the roster into two teams because of a sudden withdrawal of another team. Both teams played very well, but by the last couple of games were down to playing just 11 players - many of them battling injuries. The coaching staff was very proud and impressed by the effort and determination showed by the entire team during the tournament and throughout the entire year. The Reserve team once again proved to be a great feeder program with players such as Mitch Burgmeier and Dillon Olson making their way to the varsity team. By the end of the year roughly 10 players had made their way to the varsity level while helping the team program gear up for the playoffs. With another great season in the books the Reserve team is very excited with the new talent sure to be added and the abilities within the current team.

IIAC Men’s Varsity Wrap-Up Duhawks Win IIAC Tournament Title Reach NCAA III Second Round For Fifth Straight Year The 2011 Loras College Men’s Varsity soccer team finished 17-3-3, won the Iowa Conference Tournament, and reached at least the second round of the NCAA Division III Men’s Soccer Championships for the fifth straight season. All told, the Duhawks outscored their opponents 75-18 with 23 different players scoring at least one goal for the purple and gold. No other team in Division III could boast that high of a number – as Loras regularly employed the ‘next man in’ mentality. A total of 17 Duhawks scored multiple goals and 12 different players were credited with game-winners. The Duhawks were second in the IIAC during the regular season at 6-1-1 and finished the regular season with a 14-2-3 record. In the 2011 IIAC Tournament, Loras knocked out Central College with a 2-0 win in the Rock Bowl (avenging the regular season 3-3 tie) and followed with a road win over Luther College in the championship game, 1-0. Johnny Rummelhart netted goals in each of the two games for Loras. Individually, Donald St. George led the team with eight goals, six assists and 22 points in 23 games. Brad Joiner was next with seven goals and seven assists in 20 games. Louie Oswald tied Joiner with seven goals. Senior goalkeeper Nate DuBois recorded nine complete shutouts and chipped in with four other split shutouts with Dylan Milkent. DuBois had 0.87 goals against average in 2011 and was the goalkeeper of record in all 17 wins. Postseason honors for the Duhawks included seven players on the All-Iowa Conference team. IIAC Women’s Soccer Wrap-Up 2011 Includes 17-Game Unbeaten Streak Second Straight Trip to NCAA Round 2 The 2011 Loras College Women’s Soccer Team won the Iowa Conference’s regular season (7-0-1) and Tournament titles and hosted the first two rounds of the NCAA Division III Women’s Soccer Championships. The Duhawks finished 18-3-1 on the year and were on a 17-game unbeaten streak when the season came to an end. Fourteen different players scored at least two goals for the Duhawks and four players logged at least eight assists. The purple and gold outscored their opponents 71-17 in 2011. Loras also posted 12 shutouts in their 18 wins. The offense was led by senior Kate Young’s 13 goals, eight assists and 34 points. She concludes her career as the second most decorated player in program history. Six other players scored at least five goals in 2011. Danielle Vujovic was second on the team with nine (and nine assists), followed by Jessica Kern and Tonya Lohmeyer with seven each, Lisa Waltz’s six and five apiece for Jayne Eslinger and Madeline Tennant. After the 2011 season came to end in the second round of the NCAA Division III Championships, the postseason honors started rolling in. Young, Kern, goalkeeper Katie Chambers and center back Kinsey Campbell each made the first team All-Iowa Conference list. Eslinger and Vujovic were on the second team. Honorable Mention went to Lohmeyer and Ali Schmitt, as well as defenders Lynn DeVriese and Sarah Trump. Head coach Dan Rothert was also named the 2011 IIAC Women’s Coach of the Year – the sixth such honor for Rothert and second in a row. The program’s most accomplished senior class leaves after tallying 66 wins over the last four seasons. Chambers, Young, Kern, Schmitt, Lohmeyer, Waltz, Brittan Rooney and Natalie Schlader wrapped up their careers in 2011 with multiple IIAC championships and NCAA appearances.

2011 Media Guide
Welcome to Loras College!
Athletic and Wellness Center
Dear Duhawk Fans, Welcome to the Loras College Athletic Department and the Loras College 2011 Soccer Media Guide. The entire Loras community is thrilled that you are experiencing Loras College and “Duhawk Nation.” We hope you are able to visit Dubuque, Iowa, so you can experience our historic, beautiful and stateof-the-art facilities firsthand. Please always know that whether you visit for the first time or are able to see us regularly, you are welcomed by our athletic department, faculty and staff and, most importantly, our student body. The Loras College Athletic Department is constantly striving to extend the classroom for all of our student-athletes. Teachable moments occur for our coaches and studentathletes literally hundreds of times a day at practice and games. Traits like strength of character, sportsmanship, a solid work ethic and teamwork are taught and reinforced to produce Loras College alumni who will serve the world with integrity! As members of the National Collegiate Athletic Association and the Iowa Intercollegiate Athletic Conference, another department goal is to compete at the highest level in all athletic venues. Our coaches are recruiting not only young men and women of character, but also athletically gifted and talented young people. It is my belief that you will see well-rounded student-athletes who demonstrate both integrity and athletic prowess as Duhawks. In the end, we hope you, like thousands before you, enjoy and experience the tradition and engaging personalities that make us all Duhawks. Thanks for your time and as always…Go Duhawks!
