Nicole Kidman and husband Keith Urban are looking for a secret hideaway in London. The couple are due to move to the city while Nicole films a movie version of the musical Nine. It's thought she's asked executives at the Weinstein Film Company to look for somewhere they can stay with their newborn daughter, reports the Daily Mail. Filming on the Rob Marshall directed film will begin at Shepperton studios in October and is expected to last about 4 months. The star-studded cast includes Daniel Day-Lewis, 51, Penelope Cruz, 34, Marion Cotillard, 32, Judi Dench, 73, Sophia Loren, 73, and Kate Hudson, 29. Nicole, 40, gave birth to Sunday Rose a few weeks ago.

Former hellraiser & Ally McBeal star Robert Downey Jr is set to be Sherlock Holmes in Guy Ritchie's movie about the Victorian sleuth, according to US reports. The film will rival the Sherlock Holmes comedy from Columbia Pictures starring Borat and Ali G creator Sacha Baron Cohen in the lead role. Ritchie's Warner Bros movie, which begins filming in October and is expected to be released next year, is said to give the tales by Sir Arthur Conan Doyle a gangland makeover. US Iron Man star Downey Jr, 43, will play the detective with brawn as well as brains, according to trade magazine Variety. In the Baron Cohen movie, US actor Will Ferrell will play Watson, the sleuth's crime-solving partner.

David Beckham says the thing he misses most about England is the food. The footie star - who moved to America to play for Los Angeles Galaxy last year after signing a five-year deal worth a reputed £128 million - yearns for roast dinners. Half a Million for Drum Skin at Auction!
The iconic bass drum skin used on the front cover of The Beatles' 1967 album Sgt Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band sold for £541,250 at auction. Auction house Christie's had estimated that the hand-painted skin would sell for around £150,000, but it sold for almost four times that. Give Peace A Chance, John Lennon's hand-written lyrics, also surpassed their top estimate of £300,000. The hammer went down at £421,250. The words were intended as a lyric sheet for Lennon and Yoko Ono's 1969 Bed-In for Peace at the Queen Elizabeth Hotel in Montreal, Canada, but Lennon gave them to fan Gail Renard and asked her to rewrite them in a larger format so everyone could join in. A pair of Lennon's tinted prescription sunglasses, which he wore for the cover of the Apple Records single Mind Games, sold for £39,650. The Rock and Pop Memorabilia sale at the London auction house raised more than £1.5 million. A rare recording of the Jimi Hendrix Experience performing at the Woburn Music Festival, at Woburn Abbey, Bedfordshire, in July 1968 sold for £48,050. A 1966 Marshall amplifier used by Hendrix in concert between 1967 and 1969 sold for £25,000 and a pair of his stripy flared trousers made £20,000. A 1967 Gibson guitar which had been owned by The Who's Pete Townshend sold for £32,450. The sale included memorabilia from acts from Ella Fitzgerald to Madonna. Sale prices include buyer's premium.
Pork with Pineapple INGREDIENTS
450g/1lb pork fillet 1½ tbsp groundnut oil 1 garlic clove, crushed 3 tbsp coarsely chopped fresh coriander 1 tbsp dark soy sauce 2 tsp sugar 225g/8oz fresh or tinned pineapple, chopped
METHOD 1. Cut the pork into thin strips about 5cm/2in long. In a medium bowl, combine the marinade ingredients. Add the pork, mix well and leave to marinate at room temperature while you prepare the other ingredients. Drain, discarding the marinade. 2. Heat a wok over a high heat until it

is hot. Add the oil, and when it is very hot and slightly smoking, add the garlic and stir-fry for 15 seconds or until golden brown. 3. Add the pork and stir-fry for 3 minutes. 4. Finally, add the pineapple, coriander, soy sauce and sugar and continue to stir-fry for 3 minutes.
Grilled Pineapple in Vanilla Sauce INGREDIENTS

There were 31,000 acres of pineapples grown in Hawaii in 2004. One third of the world's pineapple comes from Hawaii. You can grow your own pineapple plant by twisting the crown off a store bought pineapple, letting it dry for 2-3 days, then planting it. The pineapple is not a single fruit as generally assumed, but a cluster of 100-200 tiny fruitlets. It takes two years for a pineapple plant to produce, and each plant typically produces at most two pineapples in its life.
1 large pineapple, chopped into rings of about 1cm 100g caster sugar 100g butter
Juice of 1 lemon 1 litre pineapple juice 300ml white rum 5 vanilla pods
METHOD Add 100ml water top the sugar and bring to boil. Leave boiling for 2 minutes. Add pineapple juice and rum. Stir well. Leave simmering for 20 minutes. In another pan, melt butter along with vanilla seeds. Stir two mixtures together
and cook until you have a syrup. Add lemon juice. Remove from heat and keep by. Grill or barbecue pineapple rings for 5 minutes on each side. Serve immediately, with vanilla sauce.

2 pomelos maduros 250 gr. de crema de leche 2 cdas. de ron 4 cdas. de copos de arroz o maíz Canela molida
Pelar los pomelos con un cuchillo bien afilado, llegando hasta la pulpa. Separar los gajos y pelar, o cortar la fruta directamente en dados. Espolvorear con azúcar. Batir la crema de leche con cuatro cdas. de azúcar, dos de ron y pizca de canela, hasta hacerla firme.
Cubrir el pomelo con la crema, adornar con algunos gajos enteros y con los copos de cereal crocantes.

Stuart Copeland: 'The Police Will Never Return Following Current Tour' Police drummer Stuart Copeland has confirmed that the band will never play together again after their current reunion tour concludes next month. Copeland said the band's world tour, which began over a year ago, “was always planned as a very finite thing.” "In the back of our minds there was the possible 'Who knows? Maybe if some new material comes up or something like that, you never know...' But the mission has always been finite,” he told Billboard. The Police's last concert, which is due to take place at Madison
Square Garden on August 7th, will be followed by the release of a special DVD. The film, produced by Copeland's son, Jordan, documents the band's reunion and also includes live footage from two shows in Argentina last December. "It's unbelievable to see the early rehearsals compared to where we're at now. Some of them were so raw we had to take them out, some of the scenes,” Copeland said, referring to the DVD. “But he's still got the nitty gritty there, with us each grappling with the reality of life in the band again."

I recommend preparing the hair with lots of conditioner and deep penetrating treatments for a few weeks before the big day. This is particularly important if you have dry, damaged hair. You don’t necessarily need a bespoke treatment. Try a leave-on conditioner and leave it on overnight for an intensive treatment that will enhance shine, leaving hair silky smooth.”

Telefonica, The Spanish Government and SP 3 Hi Everybody
Starting off this month with a bit of bad news for everybody that likes to download music and films (legally of course) and then burn them on to cd or dvd. The Spanish government have from this week introduced a new tax on all things multi media. This includes blank cds, dvds, hard drives, pen drives etc etc. This tax is being levied to claw back some of the revenue lost by piracy. I think a percentage of the tax is supposed to go back to the record companies. The tax is around 5 cents on each cd or dvd, and gets higher on things like hard drives. For example a 300 gig hard drive will rise in cost by around 15-20 euros. So if your thinking about getting a nice new removable hard drive to back up all that precious data, I would do it now while the shops have old
stock because as soon as the new stock arrives it will cost you quite a bit more.
For those of you that have ADSL and your pc is set to get updates, you will have noticed that service pack 3 is now available to download, its free of charge and is meant to sort out some of the bugs (problems) that some people are still having with windows XP. I have also found a problem with this update, the problem is that you must have already downloaded and upgraded internet explorer to version 7 before you install service pack 3. If you do it the other way around and try to install IE 7 after installing SP 3, it will not install properly, this seems to be caused by SP 3 having updates for IE7 included in it. The only way to sort this out is to uninstall SP 3 and install IE 7 then reinstall SP 3. Its not a big problem but it can take quite a bit of time to

do this on slower pcs. So my advice is to make sure you have downloaded and installed all previous updates before you install SP 3. After almost 4 years Telefonica have upgraded their ADSL routers in my village and I am now able to have 3 yes count them 3 woohoo megs of lovely beautiful ADSL. After all this time of only having half a meg, its like being given a sports car to drive after only having a mini. I am telling you this information, not to gloat or be big headed, but to let you know that they don't tell you automatically that they have upgraded your service, you have to ask them, and as the cost is the same for 3 megs as it was for half a meg its well worth the phone call to find out. This also includes free local and national calls in Spain. I know there are many
other companies offering ADSL and free this and cheaper that, but be aware that these other companies rent the lines from Telefonica, and if you should be unlucky enough to get a problem, because there are 2 companies involved in sorting it out, it can take longer, so my advice here is to way up how much cheaper the other company is before jumping ship. Because you may live to regret it. And also remember that if you have a Telefonica email address like I do, you will loose that and have to inform friends and family of you new email address. This problem doesn't arise if you use hotmail or any of the other free email providers. That's it for this month. Remember to back your important files up or lose them. Cheers Kev

The key attraction of transferring UK pension rights to a QROPS lies in the fact that for anyone who has been a non UK resident for at least five complete tax years (or when they satisfy that condition) this requirement falls away and everything changes. After that time the pension fund becomes subject to the laws of the jurisdiction where the QROPS is located. This means, for example, the UK requirement to purchase an annuity by age 75 (or be faced with the prospect of a possible 82% tax charge) no longer applies. This is possibly the most important reason to investigate QROPS as it means you can pass on the benefits of your pension to your beneficiaries and avoid UK Inheritance Tax.

Generally, pension provision should remain for exactly that reason but in some circumstances the concept of “fund release” is appropriate. A wide range of investments are possible within a QROPS. unlimited once the QROPS member has been non resident for five complete tax years or more. There is no limit to the size of funds that may be accumulated within a QROPS which was another restriction for UK pensions after 5 April 2006.

Most transfers from UK pension schemes will be paid to the QROPS in cash. For an additional cost it may also be possible to transfer in existing scheme assets. The fund can be accessed from as early as 50 years of age, in some instances, sooner with no particular limits on the amount of pension that may be taken. There is no obligation to buy an annuity from a life office and the amount of “income” drawn from the fund. Following death, the balance of the fund can often be passed on. Usually, this means that a lump sum can be paid to the nominated beneficiaries such as children and grandchildren.

If you have a UK pension fund and would like to utilise this “asset” for the purchase property, to create income early in retirement, pass to future generations, avoid annuities and maximise tax benefits on death then QROPS offers a strong solution. That said; ensure you know that the solution meets your current and future objective. Seek professional help and then you should avoid coming a QROPper!

ABOUT SOLAR ENERGY
Dear Gregor Sometimes on houses I see a solar panel with a water tank and sometimes only a solar panel. Are these two different systems? What is the difference? Paco M., Paterna Dear Paco, There are two different types of solar systems for hot water on the market. The ones with the water tank on the roof are called compact systems and the installations where you can just see the panel are called pumped systems. Both are frequently used to produce domestic hot water. I will shortly describe how they work and try to explain their advantages and disadvantages. The “compact” systems have the solar collector and the water tank together. It is a passive system, which means that no pump or other external devices are necessary. It is a very good solution, if we do not have electricity available. The water is heated up directly by the solar collector, with almost no losses in the heat transfer from the solar panel to the water storage tank. The compact system is more simple (less components) and economical than a pumped one. An important condition for the use of the “compact” system is that the distance between the solar water heater and the connection to the house is not too long, so it does not take too much time to get hot water in the house. Generally you can find compact equipments for households up to 5 or 6 persons. If you want solar installations for bigger houses or to combine the hot water system with the house heating, you have to go for the pumped system, which is more flexible. In the group of solar compact water heating systems we can find different types of equipment on the market. We consider the following points as important, in the selection of a compact solar water heater: • Water storage tank working with the normal working pressure of the water system in the house. This enables us to connect directly to the water lines in the house (no additional pumps) and to place the equipment any place we want (we only have to have sun!!). As the tank has to withstand higher pressures, this type of equipment is generally a little more expensive. There are systems on the market which work without pressure. They have to be placed higher than the bathrooms and many times an additional pump has to be used, or the water pressure is very low. • Vacuum tube solar panel with heat pipe system. The vacuum type of solar water heaters are much more efficient when it is cold outside. This gives us the possibility to cover a very high percentage of our hot water with the solar equipment, even in winter time. There are other types of solar panels on the market which are called flat plate collectors. They loose quite a lot of their efficiency when it is cold outside. The heat pipe system makes the whole system a lot simpler and easier to maintain and repair if necessary. The other system which is commonly used is the pumped system. In this type, the solar panel is usually mounted on the roof of the house, and the water tank is positioned somewhere inside the house, preferably as near as possible to where the hot water is finally used. A mains powered circulation pump is used to transfer the solar fluid between the solar panel and the water storage tank, transferring the heat from the solar panel to the water. A controller is required, which measures when the solar fluid is hotter in
the panels than in the tank and puts the pump into operation. One advantage of the pumped system is that the tank is nearer to where the hot water is needed and that the tank has less heat losses, because it is not exposed to the weather outside. Another advantage is its flexibility. You can make it almost as big as you like (for example for hotels or camping sites.) and you can combine the systems with the house heating, (using more panels of course). Although the pumped system is more expensive than the compact system, it is often used as well because the visual impact on the house is less. In some solutions the solar panels can be integrated, for example in the roof of the house (as you can see on the picture below), using them even as a design object for the house.

We recommend using high quality vacuum tube collectors with a heat pipe system, and a well isolated water storage tank, with a big heat exchanger inside. As you can see, the best solution always depends on the place where the system has to be installed and on the needs of the customer. A good solar system has to be “tailor made” for your home to get good results.

Paterna Estimado Paco: Hay dos sistemas diferentes para agua caliente sanitaria (ACS) en el mercado. Los que llevan el depósito integrado en la placa solar se llaman sistemas compactos o sistemas de termosifón y los sistemas que tienen solo la placa solar en el tejado se llaman sistemas de flujo forzado (más adelante explicaré por qué). Los dos sistemas sirven para producir ACS. Explicaré los dos sistemas con sus ventajas y desventajas. En el sistema compacto, la placa solar y el depósito de agua caliente están juntos, montados en la misma estructura en el exterior. Es un sistema pasivo y no necesita ninguna bomba adicional para funcionar, lo cual es una gran ventaja y nos permite utilizar este sistema en sitios donde no hay suministro eléctrico, por ejemplo. Además, el agua se calienta directamente por la placa solar sin apenas pérdidas, aunque hay que mencionar que el depósito está expuesto a la intemperie y por ello tiene pérdidas de calor algo más altos que los sistemas de flujo forzado, que llevan el acumulador dentro de la casa. El sistema es más sencillo (menos componentes) y más económico que el de flujo forzado. Para las instalaciones de los compactos es importante que la entrada de agua caliente a la casa no esté muy alejada del equipo, para que el agua no tarde demasiado en llegar al grifo. En los equipos compactos hay unos tamaños Standard para casas con 3 a 6 personas. Para sistemas muy grandes o sistemas combinados de calefacción y ACS, hay que ir al sistema de flujo forzado, que es más flexible. Existen diferentes tipos de equipo compacto en el mercado. Consideramos importantes en la selección de un equipo compacto los siguientes puntos: • Que el depósito trabaje a la presión de la red de agua de la casa. Así se conecta directamente a la casa sin necesidad de montar bombas adicionales y no hay ninguna limitación en la selección del sitio de montaje. Como el depósito tiene que aguantar presiones más altas, el equipo sale más caro. • Que la placa solar sea de tubo de vacío con sistema “heat pipe”. Las placas solares de tubo de vacío son mucho más eficientes en invierno a temperaturas bajas y el sistema “heat pipe” hace que el sistema sea mucho más sencillo y más fácil de mantener y reparar en caso de necesidad. El otro sistema usado comúnmente es el de flujo forzado. Allí la placa solar generalmente está montada en el techo de la casa y el depósito de agua se encuentra dentro de la casa. En este caso se necesita una bomba eléctrica, un circuito primario y un sistema de control para llevar el calor desde la placa solar al depósito de agua caliente sanitario (ACS). El controlador mide la temperatura en la placa y en el depósito y siempre que la placa solar esté más caliente que el agua del depósito, la bomba entra en funcionamiento. Se llama de flujo forzado, porque la bomba tiene que mover el agua del cirquito solar, para que el sistema funcione.
Una ventaja del sistema de flujo forzado es que el acumulador no está expuesto al exterior y por lo tanto no pierde mucho calor por la noche. Además se puede poner el acumulador más cerca de los puntos donde se gasta el agua y así se reduce el tiempo hasta que el agua llega al grifo. Son sistemas muy flexibles que se pueden hacer incluso para instalaciones muy grandes o para combinarlos con la calefacción de la casa. Aunque este tipo de sistema es más caro que el compacto, se emplea con frecuencia, principalmente porque el impacto visual del sistema se reduce de forma importante; incluso hay soluciones dónde los paneles solares se integran en el techo de la casa y se usan como elemento decorativo. El diseño, la instalación y el aislamiento de los sistemas de flujo forzado es crucial para la eficiencia y la fiabilidad del sistema. Recomendamos utilizar colectores solares de tubo de vacío con sistema “heat pipe” de buena calidad, un acumulador con buen aislamiento y un intercambiador de calor grande. Como se puede ver, la mejor solución siempre depende del sitio donde se vaya a instalar y de las necesidades del cliente. If you are considering solar pool heating here are a few pointers and a brief rundown on the different types.
Direct Heat Transfer - uses the water directly from the pool and pumps it through a heat exchanger (solar array) which is usually made from a type of plastic. I usually recommend this system because of it’s durability and flexibility. They are usually empty when not in use, which means they can’t freeze during the winter season so no worries when you want to use them (just turn them on and away they go) also, apart from the pump side of the system they are virtually maintenance free. There are some down sides to these types of system which should be highlighted when you have a survey carried out. The biggest of which being that their efficiency is affected by wind, so if the only option for a position for your array is in a windy, I would advise opting for the type of system describe below. Secondary or Indirect Heat Transfer - uses a solar array to heat a “primary circuit” which is separate and independent to the pool water. The primary water passes through a heat exchanger heating the pool water as it passes through the other side of the exchanger. This system is generally more efficient and not affected too dramatically by wind chill, rain etc. However, the downsides are. They can’t just be turned off because they are full of transfer fluid which is always being heated when the sun is on them. This heat has to be dispersed otherwise, amongst other things, it would expand to the point that some part of the
system would have to burst to get rid of the pressure, the usual methods to prevent this are either to use the unwanted heat to transfer to a cylinder of water for domestic use or to install a cover to dramatically reduce the amount of heat generated. Either option can be quite costly and involve some bulky equipment. All types of pool heaters require a thermal pool cover to work properly and hold the heat which is generated. Out of the two systems I do prefer the first option, Direct Heat Transfer because of cost and ease of use amongst other things but it is of course personal choice, once you’ve considered all the facts it boils down to personal choice. So make sure when you are looking for a system to suit you, you get plenty of info, you are able to see a system working and, as always, don’t just rely on the advice of the first person you speak to. Let’s face it though, unless there is a medical reason for having to swim *all year round, these systems are a “want” not a “need item” and are thus an expense rather than an investment. he arrival of F1 in Valencia next month will leave its mark on city property prices in the short to mid term. If as some commentators predict and the most popular motorsports’ event stays indefinitely in the city then those who have bought property especially properties near the F1 circuit and the city’s new marina will be on to a winner. City property prices have almost quadrupled since the start of 2001. As of 31st December 2000, the average price per sqm in the city was €785.34 whereas at the end of 2007 it stood at €2,849. The

area closest to the F1 circuit and city marina namely “Camins al Grau” was in pole position last year re annual city price increases. Prices in the city rose on average by 3.7% with the port area rising ahead of inflation at 4.9%. The property type that offers the best upside re future capital appreciation gain is undoubtedly old style apartments particularly those in need of total renovation. Basically it’s a case of supply and demand with new style apartments far outweighing old style in the port area of the city. Moreover from the buyer’s viewpoint the old style properties are far more attractive with their tall

A MAJOR FACELIFT The Valencian government intends over the next ten years to give a major facelift to the whole port area of the city. One idea being mooted is to run the sea via the city’s old riverbed right up to where the city’s emblematic “City of the Sciences” is and to make it navigable with moorings along the river bank as well as bars and restaurants. The arrival of the A.V.E. high speed train from Madrid in 2010 will cut travel time from Spain’s capital city from its present 3.5 hours to an incredible 1 hour 25 minutes with the train reaching speeds of up to 350 kmph. This should result in increased numbers of visitors to the city as well as give people working in Madrid the opportunity of living in Valencia where property prices are a good 1/3 cheaper and the quality of life is far superior to that of landlocked Madrid.

hile massive price gains over the past decade have increased property prices beyond the reach of many hopefuls, the number of Brits seeking to move abroad has more than doubled in the same period. A survey carried out in February by the international research agency ‘You Gov’ showed that 35% of the 2000 sample people questioned were considering a purchase abroad within the year. The main reasons for wishing to flee Britain were; increased concern about ‘yob culture’ (the most concerned being women respondents), followed by the high cost of living and the British weather. All in all, a high number of Brits are keen to move abroad ASAP but the current poor exchange rate, ‘credit crunch’ and difficulty in selling up in the UK are delaying these plans. So if people are desperate to make a major life change but are being held back, is there a solution to bring these plans forward? The simple answer is a definite yes, but a re-think of exactly how the great escape can be orchestrated will need to take place. It’s the ‘plan B’ or ‘Tom Dick and Harry’ method that has served crafty Brits well in the past, and there is certainly more than one way to realise a move or purchase abroad within 12 months.
Primarily finances will normally dictate if and when things can happen. If a typical couple or family are seeking a €350k property in Spain, they will probably need to sell their house in the UK to raise funds or take on a substantial mortgage (‘plan A’). On the other hand (‘plan B’), if the purchase price was just €80k, they might be able to buy without selling up in the UK or be happy to take out a re-mortgage for the 80k, which might easily be paid with rental income from the UK home (both rents and rental demand are on the increase). Alternatively bridging loans are available (a good mortgage broker will seek out the best deals for you) such that the time period for a successful sale might be extended e.g. to 2 or even 5 years on sometimes very affordable terms. Once again if the figure is just 80k for a home abroad instead of 350k, the risk is far less and the time scale may be transformed from ‘little hope this year’ to ‘completing next month’. So where are the properties for 80k!!?? Though it sounds improbable there are actually liveable properties for sale for this figure and some as low as 15k!, the reason being that a credit crunch unfortunately means that an increased number of properties will be repossessed, (the first half of 2008 has seen record numbers of bank repossessions). Some properties will be available via estate agencies while others will go to auction. The Spanish system normally involves up to three auctions, the first and second auctions involve a reserve price (remember this may simply be what the bank is owed and much less than the true value, though the law limits the minimum sale price to between 50 and 20% of actual value depending on the date of the escritura). If required, the second auction may have a reduced reserve and if the property reaches a third auction it normally goes to the highest bidder (no reserve but potentially restricted by law). The bank need to turn bad debts back into cash even when it is at a loss. ‘Taking advantage of the bank?’ now that does sound good! Buying this way could secure a property with decent accommodation and in a decent area for a realistic figure of between 50 and 100k. While this may or may not be the property you intend to stay in forever e.g. it could be a 3 bed apartment rather than a villa (though houses and large villas can be snapped up too), it achieves a number of objectives 1. An escape abroad ASAP 2. A bargain purchase that would normally be immediately of higher value than the price paid. 3. Far less financial risk.

Surveyor’s tips*: *: Getting a brand new or nearly new property at a bargain repossession price, seems like a fail safe deal, but remember that communal facilities to some of the newest developments may not be completed in the near future (especially if the repossession is from the developer!). Some properties have not been built to a well controlled standard and defects can still exist, so ‘brand new’ does not necessarily mean ‘structurally sound’. When it comes to repairing responsibilities financially unstable builders can be hard to pin down and 10 year (decenal) guarantees will only cover structural stability and not issues like leaking roofs. If you are having problems at present with your mortgage and it looks like you are going to default then be aware that banks once they start the legal process to repossess your property they increment your debt with all the legal fees, default interest charges etc. So at the end of the day, this could well eat all the equity you have in the property and leave you technically owing money should the bank not realise the funds necessary to repay the debt from the auction. It’s better to offer the property at a very low price and walk away with no debt and a few euros in your pocket than the repossession route. Or perhaps there is someone who is prepared to swap their property for yours taking over your mortgage as part of the deal, any price differences can be dealt with in private legal agreements which can be declared on the escritura. E.G Mr. A owns a villa with 100,000€ mortgage and cannot pay the mortgage, he still wants to be
