Walk into summer Ryan Hunter Development Manager The Village at Wellard
Development Manager’s Update As I am sure you will have noticed, The Village at Wellard is abuzz with construction activity. Building is well underway on the Wellard Community Centre. Expected to be complete early next year, the $3.4 million project will offer a fabulous resource for the whole community. You can find more information on the community centre, and details of how to have your say on the types of activities the centre should offer on the back page of Village Connect. Since our last update, construction on Linear Park has been completed and the park is now open for play. As winter gives way to spring, we hope your family enjoys using the playgrounds, picnic benches and, as the weather starts to heat up, some welcome shaded areas, protected by mature, native trees. There has also been a lot of home construction, resulting in an influx of new residents moving into the estate. So an extra special welcome to The Village at Wellard to our newest neighbours! I hope you enjoy this edition of Village Connect. If you have any feedback or suggestions for the newsletter please send your ideas and comments to firstname.lastname@example.org or call the Wellard Community Info Line at 9285 8028.

Residents enjoy getting to know their neighbours while improving their fitness through the Calico Program
Walk It Wellard, The Village’s newest community group, was formed at the CALICO launch event in May 2012. Walk it Wellard, a community group established to promote health and wellbeing, celebrated the launch of the eight new CALICO (Calories In, Calories Out) Fitness Totems installed around the estate, with a series of community well-being sessions, including a 4km walk with a personal trainer and an outdoor fitness class. Armed with a free FitChip and USB receiver, Walk it Wellard members will now be able to track their physical progress more easily through the CALICO website. Here users are encouraged to enter their age, weight and measurements to help calculate the activity level needed to meet different lifestyle goals, such as getting fit, maintaining a healthy weight or helping to lose weight. As part of Walk it Wellard’s inaugural summer Walking Challenge residents of all ages and fitness levels are being encouraged to get active and ‘beat Peet’ by logging more steps, kilometres, minutes and calories burned than Peet. The Village at Wellard team members including Senior Development Manager Craig Graham, Development Manager Ryan Hunter and Marketing Executive Mel Clarke. For more information contact the Community Info Line on 9285 8028, email email@example.com or log on to CALICO at www.calico.com.au
Enjoy wildlife at your doorstep New park brings nature even closer; Linear Park, our community’s newest parkland is now open. Connecting Lambeth Circle and Homestead Ridge with a winding foot and cycle path, the parkland contains playgrounds, picnic benches, shaded seating and native re-vegetation with more than 100 new and mature trees alongside possum nesting boxes. Linear Park is the latest addition to The Village at Wellard’s 33 hectares of landscaped parks, 17 hectares of natural bushland and 10 hectares of conservation wetlands. It is a short walk from the Wellard Train Station. Linear Park has something for everyone
Markets to boast scrumptious treats Local residents were able to indulge their sweet tooths when Lauren Webster’s Scrumptious Gourmet Cupcakes launched in 2010 at The Village Markets at Wellard.
Construction of the Wellard Community Centre is well underway with completion due in early 2013
Make the most of your new Community Centre Last chance to shape the program Peet is currently working with the Town of Kwinana to develop a program for the activation of the Wellard Community Centre and is seeking last minute requests from residents and local groups about usage of the facility. Great suggestions already incorporated within the planning of the program include fitness classes such as Zumba and Pilates, social nights, adult learning classes, youth programs, activities for kids and even space for an arts and crafts group.
The new centre, located at the corner of Runnymede Gate and The Strand, will be a hub for the local community and will incorporate a range of rooms suitable for meetings and social gatherings, fitness classes, community education and training as well as a kitchen, a crèche and a playground. Residents can continue to submit their ideas and suggestions for activities, events, programs and groups through the Community Info Line on 9285 8028 or firstname.lastname@example.org.
Fans of Lauren’s gourmet cupcakes will be pleased to learn that she’ll be back when the Markets relaunch in October.
