About the Event The Long Island Children’s Museum’s annual fundraiser brings out “kids at heart” from across the region to “play with purpose” in support of LICM’s educational programs, family performances and community outreach efforts. The evening features a continuous cocktail party that allows guests the opportunity to truly experience the Long Island Children’s Museum as they play throughout the galleries, enjoy live performances and explore their creative side in activities and mini-workshops.
A highlight of the evening is the spirited bidding surrounding the Cupcakes Auction as guests vie for experiential packages involving coveted sporting events, high-end travel packages, and much more. Leading figures from the worlds of business, athletics, entertainment and the political and academic arenas support this special “night at the museum”— drawn by their shared interest in the Museum’s efforts on behalf of children and families. This strong support makes Cupcakes & Cocktails the most successful fundraising event on Long Island.
Honoree Profile - Michael Rodriguez “Consider it done.” There is no phrase that a business partner wants to hear more than “consider it done.” It defines a work ethic, consideration for others and a level of integrity that immediately puts you at ease. Tonight’s honoree uses that phrase as his company motto and his life story explains its relevance. Michael Rodriguez began his career as a porter at The World Trade Center in 1988 and quickly recognized his passion for continued development and being a positive role model in the industry. Lacking a formal education only fueled Michael’s determination to expand his knowledge and experience. Following the 1993 bombing of The World Trade Center, he left janitorial services and began a supervisory role at a prominent security company. Although rewarding and instrumental in his education of commercial security, it did not take long for Michael to return to his roots at The World Trade Center as janitorial Supervisor. His hard work and dedication soon brought additional opportunities in the industry. Hence, the beginning of his career at First Quality Maintenance in 1995. Michael’s unique approach and dynamic personality immediately caught the eye of CEO Gary Green. As a born motivator, Michael soon empowered his team members to recognize their potential and instilled core company values that continue to drive the organization. In 2001, Michael and Gary formed Alliance Building Services, which began the next chapter in Michael’s career. A chapter that saw tremendous growth and expansion as Michael assumed the role of President of Alliance Building Services. Michael’s forward thinking and innovative ideas have increased Alliance’s annual revenue to more than $150 million and currently employs over 4,000 people in the New York City area. He continues to look for integrative
services to broaden the Alliance portfolio of services. As president, Michael is responsible for all facets of Alliance, from the front line employees to back office support and executives. “We are all members of the Alliance team. Superior execution is a direct result of team collaboration, communication and commitment to excellence.” The business community and charitable organizations have recognized Rodriguez’ success and community commitment. In 2009, Michael was chosen as one of Crain New York’s most dynamic businesspeople under age 40. In 2010, he received the Los Niños Image Award for Business’ for the Committee for Hispanic Children and Families, Inc. and in 2014, he was honored at the National Jewish Health’s AIR Society The Sky’s The Limit Benefit. Michael also advocates for the betterment of the Latino community by serving on the Board of the Committee for Hispanic Children and Families, Inc. and the Diabetes Research Institute. He also provides substantial contributions to a variety of organizations that provide support services, including the Nontraditional Employment for Women (NEW), Big Brother Big Sisters of NYC, St. Francis Food Pantries and Shelters, Nassau Suffolk Services for Autism (NSSA) and enCourage Kids Foundation. Under the Alliance banner, Rodriguez has sponsored several community events including “Swing for a Cure” Golf Classic to benefit The Herophilos Fund for Pancreatic Cancer Research at Columbia University Medical Center for the last seven years. Michael, his wife Maria and three children, Mariah, Michael Jr., and Matthew reside in Westchester County. Long Island Children’s Museum is proud to recognize Michael A. Rodriguez for his dedication to organizations that enhance the well-being of our community and its residents.
A Letter from our Event Co-Chairs It’s our great pleasure to support this special night, this dynamic organization and tonight’s honoree, Michael Rodriguez. Evidence of the Museum’s milestone silver anniversary is on view all around us tonight. More importantly, this milestone is visible in homes, classrooms and neighborhoods across our region. Long Island Children’s Museum has put down deep roots in its 25-year history that have nurtured a generation of Long Island children. A generation that can easily call up memories of LICM visits as touchstone moments of childhood. This icon exists and thrives because you and thousands of families and businesses like you recognize the need for a place that encourages children to explore, question and learn; preparing them to live a rich and meaningful life in a more complex world. You value an institution that promotes empathy and cultural understanding in an increasingly polarized world. You appreciate the Museum as an economic asset for Long Island. You have made this institution the success it is today! On behalf of the nearly 5 million visitors that the Museum has welcomed over the years, we want to salute the hard work of the Museum’s founders, staff and early believers who took an idea and made it a reality. Each year, the Museum must raise 50 percent of its operating budget to support the myriad offerings it provides for the community. The silver lining of this monumental task has always been the generosity of the community; individuals and companies that believe in the Museum’s mission and its abilities and support its continued growth. Individuals like Michael Rodriguez. Everyone who knows Michael uses words like hard working, generous, caring and concerned to describe him. These are attributes that the Museum models for its visitors and values in its supporters. Michael has been a supporter of this Museum and
many other organizations that nurture the physical and educational wellbeing of our neighbors. We are grateful for his friendship and generosity. Tonight’s event is the culmination of 25 weeks of celebration that have taken place at the Museum. During this celebratory season, LICM has highlighted the range of programs, performances and experiences that inspire children on a daily basis. Tonight is your turn to experience the joy, laughter and learning that have defined Long Island Children’s Museum for 25 years. Thank you for your ongoing support. Happy Birthday LICM!

Scott Rechler Event Co-Chair
A Letter from the Museum President and Board Chair Welcome to Cupcakes & Cocktails 2019, the culminating event in our 25-week celebration of LICM’s silver birthday. This occasion would not be possible without the legion of Museum supporters and community partners who have made LICM’s history a true success story. Tonight we celebrate all those who have made 25 years of joy, laughter and “aha” moments possible. The Museum has always been a gathering place where all the region’s children could meet, play and learn together. This gathering place role has never been more necessary. Families are gravitating to, and express appreciation for, this place that exudes joy and optimism; a space that promotes empathy and welcomes all. “Welcome” takes many forms at LICM. It is demonstrated in the cultural workshops and festivals we host to introduce and celebrate the traditions of new neighbors. It is evident during Friendly Hours and Sensory Friendly performances. It is tangible in the exhibits that surround us which address every interest. Most importantly, it is expressed by the diverse, talented staff that creates and delivers enriching experiences geared at a range of ages and learners. People around the corner and across the country notice the Museum’s “welcoming” approach. It is a joy to see the diversity of our visitors, brought together and bonding over their shared dreams for their children. We are proud to be sought out by educational institutions and corporations looking for experts in inspiring and nurturing children’s social and emotional development. We are thrilled that Museum staff is asked to model LICM experiences on national committees and at professional conferences. We are immensely proud of the deep roots the Museum has planted in its 25-year history. The Museum’s reach has exceeded our own original expectations. We are grateful to everyone who has supported LICM over the years.
As you know, Cupcakes & Cocktails is the Museum’s main fundraising activity. Its success makes all that we do possible. Funds raised tonight have a direct, daily impact on Long Island’s children and families. Our thanks to Honoree Michael Rodriguez and Event Co-Chairs Scott Rechler and Frank Pusinelli for taking on leadership roles to achieve our ambitious financial goals for this milestone night. Their stalwart support of the Museum is deeply appreciated. We would also like to thank our colleagues on the LICM Board of Trustees, and Museum staff and volunteers who create and deliver the vibrant Museum experiences that are imprinted in the childhood memories of a generation of Long Island children. You deserve a night of celebration. Enjoy!
