What a year of change we’ve had. On a world scale, we’ve had changes in the progression of the pandemic. And on a local scale, we’ve had changes in leadership at LTAC. But one thing remains constant: our commitment to high quality performances. This past year, we presented a full Main Stage series, along with all of our community impact programs, providing a way for people to enjoy enrichment and entertainment after so many felt isolated. Our ’22-’23 season builds on the wonderful performances you saw last year, and thrillingly expands our offerings so that there truly is something for everyone. We’re excited to continue the success of Gerald Albright’s Lone Tree Sessions series, this year with a special performance by Gerald himself, along with his daughter Selina, plus the soul-lifting R&B sounds of Take 6 and a nationally-known artist we can’t reveal just yet. We are also excited about the return of some popular favorites this year, including Classic Albums Live, this time with The Beatles’ Let It Be.

PRESENTING SPONSORS

Popular music abounds, with appearances by The Drifters, the music of Elvis Presley with Hot Club of Cowtown and Tyler Hilton, and The Doo Wop Project, to keep the Valentine’s Day celebration going. Katie Deal sings the music of country’s leading ladies, Music City Hit-Makers gives us the music and stories behind some of country’s greatest hits, direct from the songwriters themselves, and LTAC favorite Sons of the Pioneers returns with their beloved Western Sound.
This season we present an expanded series of dance offerings, beginning with a new company, DanceAspen, formed by dancers from the Aspen-Santa Fe Ballet. Contemporary company Gibney Dance Theater performs exceptional choreography with grace and athleticism. And one of the nation’s top tap companies, Chicago Tap Theatre, reinvigorates this classic American dance form and takes it to the next level with creativity and innovation. We have a special focus on world music, dance, and spectacle, bringing back favorites like the Peking Acrobats and adding renowned artists like the Irish band Danú for a St. Patrick’s Day Celebration, this country’s foremost Taiko company, San Jose Taiko, and the Cuban dance sounds of Tiempo Libre. Our community impact offerings continue to be an important part of our programming. Our Arts in the Afternoon series celebrates diverse local artists, and our SPARK! programming for people with early dementia and their caregivers continues to grow. Our Seedlings, Passport to Culture, and Sensory Friendly programs are flourishing, and our student matinee series is back in full force after a year of uncertainty due to the pandemic. Two of our student matinee offerings, The Wizard of Oz and The Lightning Thief, have public performances as well. We know you’ll be just as excited to see what’s coming to the Lone Tree Arts Center as we are to bring these incredible artists to you. Have a look, and we’ll see you in the theater!

Home for the Holidays December 15–23, 2022 “Home for the Holidays” is the kind of old-school variety show no one puts on anymore.” —Denver Post Holidays are about traditions, so continue yours with this hometown favorite! Note for note, cut for cut, Classic Albums Live is back with The Beatles’ Let It Be. Let It Be is the 12th and final studio album by the English rock band The Beatles. It was released on May 8, 1970, almost a month after the group’s breakup, in tandem with the motion picture of the same name. Like most of the band’s previous releases, the album topped record charts in many countries, including both the U.S. and the U.K. However, the critical response was generally unfavorable, and Let It Be came to be regarded as one of the most controversial rock albums in history with hits like “Across the Universe,” “Let It Be,” “Maggie Mae,” “Get Back,” “The Long and Winding Road,” and more. After the album, enjoy a set of The Beatles’ greatest hits.

Tiempo Libre Saturday, May 6, 2023 at 8pm “World Class Act…” —London Evening Standard As teenagers in Cuba, Tiempo Libre’s members studied classical music by day at Havana’s rigorous Russian-style conservatory La ENA. At night they met up to play the traditional music of their island. After emigrating to the United States, the men formed Tiempo Libre, a band that has become known around the world for its sophisticated, dance-inducing concerts of a Cuban style of music called timba—a joyful combination of Latin jazz, traditional Cuban “son,” and other musical elements. Since their inception, they have garnered three Grammy nominations, the most recent for their album Bach in Havana, which melds classical tunes by Johann Sebastian Bach with the soul-stirring rhythms of salsa, merengue, and cha-cha. The Vega Quartet, resident quartet of Emory University, will join forces with Mark and Maggie O’Connor to perform some of Beethoven’s works alongside the works of Mark O’Connor himself. Fantasies and Romances with Phillip Stevens and Betsy Schwarm Wednesday, February 22, 2023 at 1:30pm In classical music, a fantasie (or fantasia: think of the film!) is an imaginative flight of fancy. Romances are usually song-like, even if they lack voices, and whether or not there are literally hearts and flowers, it is surely music well suited for Valentine’s Day. This program of works for viola and piano offers various explorations of the idea. The program features compositions by the husband-and-wife team of Robert Schumann and Clara Wieck Schumann, as well as composers from both before and after their time. Violist Philip Stevens and friends, with concert host Betsy Schwarm, invite you to join them for the sweet sounds of musical romance.
