Photography enables me to discover and learn about others and myself. Nature, the people around me and my travels are my main inspiration. I’ve always felt the urge to travel, the longing to visit places far away and be free. Traveling in this way is not about the destination, it’s the journey itself that matters.
Why the fascination with photographing people and not for instance landscapes? I seek to capture someones personality and enjoy getting to know them whilst working together. I like to combine fashion or portraits with stills to tell create a certain atmosphere and to tell a story. Your summer soundtrack? The first thing that comes to mind is ‘Going Up the Country’ by Canned Heat.

A few weeks back when I was tumblring as if my life depended on it, I stumbled on to the work of Rosaline Shahnavaz that is nothing less than honest, raw and at the same time delicate. I can see from her website that she’s only just starting, and this makes me curious to see what direction she’s going to head in next. I wrote her an email and asked her some questions and lucky for us she was happy to answer them. What’s your passion? I’d have to say that my biggest passion is Photography. I love meeting new people and discovering new places. Photography is the most powerful tool for exploring and learning about the world that surrounds you. It’s a wonderful feeling knowing that people out there admire the ways in which you’ve captured a moment. I like to think that a way of seeing is a way of being. I see you like shooting on film. How many camera’s do you own? Correct! I only shoot on film. Being able to hold a photograph as an object is something that will forever be a strong value of mine. I resent how much is lost in the abysses of the digital world today. Cameras… 20 or even 25? Definitely too many but I think it is important that you try loads of things before you settle for what you like the best. They’re beautiful and fascinating objects, as well their mechanical ability. I don’t think people will ever regret investing in a camera. Your ideal summer would be? I’d like to go to California again. Joshua Tree is the best.
Where does your name originate from? My surname originates from Iran, my parents moved from Tehran to London in their early twenties. They have lived fascinating lives and I have a lot to learn from my family’s history. I am currently planning a project, which I will shoot in Iran later this year. Three things you love most? In no particular order: the summer, the movies and road trips. Favorite summer soundtrack? Bob Dylan – Highway 61 Revisited You’re inspired by? People. What projects you are working on now? I have just started working on duo project with another photographer that focuses on the concept of conversation. It’s all under the wraps at the moment but follow my blog and my website to keep up with what’s new… more info: www.rosalineshahnavaz.tumblr.com www.rosalineshahnavaz.com 81

pony ruidoblanco, photographer from rosario, argentina loves fresh girls, world domination as well as Jumping in swimming pools. we found him on a random tumblr and decided to know more.
So Pony tell me a little bit about yourself? I’m Pony, 25, I’m from Rosario, Argentina, the city of bass. I try to live from advertising pictures I’ll never show to the world. I love second hand clothing and I’m huge fan of new faces (models). Tell me about your photos? Right now most of the shots I got on my website and Tumblr are kind of casual and fast, but count on the really cool people in it, like my best friend Flor Ramaccioni, a model with a super-brain who’s into team work, styling and shows me new dynamics and perspective. I think I made some of my best photos with her. Can I call you My Little Pony ? hahaha sure! You can call me ponpon if you want. OK pom-pon, tell me something about your neighbourhood! Ehmm.. It’s a super comfortable strategic place where I’m living now. It is pretty easy to get bored if you don’t mess with the right people. Luckily I hang out with a collective called “Dance, Kiss Or Death” that’s all I care about.
What drives you? I like concepts of hybrids, balances and stuff, if it’s surreal or rare but to behave in a really natural way, etc. Intuitively I love to mix techniques and cameras as well as collaborate with others on new projects. This summer you will be .. Determined on trying to get invited to many pools as I can, I don’t care if it’s night or day, for a date or party What does Lolita mean to you? Lolita, to me it’s a barely legal fresh girl who knows best how to flow sensuality without making any effort. Future plans? Get fit, raise my level, start traveling, world domination. It’s piece of cake after that. Website: http://ponywhitenoise.tumblr.com

How old are you? 25 Where are you from? A small town on the east coast of England. Did you study photography or are you self thought? I taught myself the basics of using a film camera, then went on to study photography at college and university. When did you start taking self portraits? I started around 2008, I took a break from education and spent a lot of time alone around the house. I started to experiment from there and have carried on exploring the subject since! Why are self portraits endlessly fascinating for you? I’ve only recently realized (in the last two years) the reasoning behind my constant exploration of the subject, and it’s a way for me to deal with some of my deepest anxieties. I use the self-portrait as a way of looking at myself and as a way of remembering and recording my own mortality.
What motivates you? Light motivates me a lot these days! If it’s a dull day and the light isn’t great I feel very uninspired, but if I wake up and its bright outside it inspires me to shoot a lot more photos. Your summer soundtrack? The Cat Empire - “Two Shoes” album. Where do you find inspiration? I find inspiration from books, magazines and zines, also from fellow photographers and just my general day to day. What does Lolita mean to you? Lolita is young, fun & bright! And makes me happy to be a girl! Ever thought about making a book? Yes! I would love to make a book and hope that it’s something I can do sometime soon. I’d also love to have a solo show of my self-portraits some day, hopefully sooner rather than later! This summer you will..? Graduate, spend time with my cat, photograph, spend more time with friends, travel, try and save up for an awesome trip around Europe!

Where do you live? I live in the sometimes sunny sometimes wet Sunshine Coast, right near the beach, great for surf. How did you start a career as a photographer? I got a little contract with a surf company to shoot some video for them, that pretty much kickstarted it. What are your plans this summer? Errr, well my summer is your winter. haha, but yeah, I’m planning to maybe get to Europe and New York in a few months time to have a working holiday. Your favorite summer holiday memory? Going on holidays as a kid to this cool little coastal town, spending all the days at the beach bodyboarding and surfing. That was great. How would you describe your style? Kinda grungy, kinda polished. That’s not really describing all that it is I guess. Fence sitter haha.
Any message that you wanna send to the world? Yeah, can everyone stop being so blatantly left or right wing, we need more level headed perspectives. Fuck yeah, take that world... What do you look for in a girl? Beauty, intelligence, compassion and humour Your summer soundtrack? A$AP Rocky, French Films, Yardbirds & Paul Simon
Where are you from originally? I am from Cawarral, a small country town 15 minutes from the beach. I loved our home as a kid.
What’s next for Nat? I’m off to New Zealand soon for a film trip, should fun. Hopefully the Europe thing works out later in the year, would love to be shooting abroad for a while. I’m also slowly working on a book too!
What does LOLITA mean to you? Intrigue, trouble, beauty and youth.
