Dolores Mulledy BA(Hons) MArch Obtained my Master’s Degree In Architecture from E.T.S.A, Madrid, having completed my education with an International Mobility program with CEPT University in Ahmedabad, India, as well as the European Mobility Grant at Politecnico di Milano, Italy. During my studies, I collaborated with Sangath (Vastu Shilpa Consultants), in Ahmedabad, exposed to the initial stages of the project developement process and learning from the mixture of traditional and up to date solutions used in their approach to every project. 2

After graduating, I collaborated with O.S.S. (Office for Strategic Spaces) for a competition in Madrid, and joined the team of freelance content writers at Habitissimo. I have recently been working as a freelance Architect, in both Madrid and Sevilla, taking on new developments and refurbishment projects, and truly enjoying the full architectural process. I believe in finding architectural responses that can hold a useful dialogue with the surroundings, commited with the local context and coherent in terms of form and material.

About me

I consider myself to be a dedicated and committed architect, with a strong sensitivity for detail, and deep interest in practical yet moving design.

PATIO HOUSE Sevilla

4

The house is a three storey dwelling in the centre of one of the most traditional neighbouhoods in Sevilla. Built around 1850, it is a magnificent example of a typical Andalusian family house, organised around a fresh courtyard. The project takes the value of history and rethinks the program to hold new domestic landscapes and up-to-date installations. Structure and finnishes are brought to the present in an innovative yet respectful context. Estudio DĂaz Zulategui

GOLF CLUB HOUSE Cádiz

10

The project is set near the limits of a golf field. The building rises above the ground as independent containers, brought together by a light roof. The white walls and clean cut geometries are meant to reflect sunlight and create deep shadows around the exterior. Based on the moderate climate, this disgregate layout aims to enable an open circulation in and out of the building, framing the views towards the field. Estudio Díaz Zulategui

TIME AND TIPOLOGY E.T.S.A.M. The city of Madrid is diagnosed as a place that can no longer withstand the dynamics of today’s life patterns. Still, it offers an urban tissue with enough potential, pulse and architectural foundation to be reinterpreted, transformed and fixed. The project considers buildings and infrastructure as an open field to re-use, re-live, re-program, redensify and re-organize. By means of a hybrid responsible program, a post-war residential block is brought to the present and oppened to new residents and users. U.D. Juan Herreros Thesis Project

00 Neighbourhood Diagnosis // 1939-2016

The block as it is This post war residential block is slowly degrading among new developments and commercial premises that ignore the neighbouhood’s past, its tradition and above all, its potential.

01 The 3-staged intervention

C Rooftop The intervention proposes new housing typologies on the rooftops around the perimeter, built in a light material that will not overwhelme the original structure.

16

Void The perimeter is completed with new constructions, filling the voids between the buildings and creating an entry space to the gardens and apartments inside the block.

B

Groundfloor

latest works

The apartments at groundfloor are substituted by a new public program acting as a buffer between the street and the interior of the block. The spaces are recicled, refilled and stretched towards the gardens, bringing light to the interior.

All-in-one

The most unprotected houses are those around the perimeter at groundflor. Changing this situation and substituting these houses for other public program would not only improve the perimeter, but would also have enormus reprecusions and improvements inside the block.

It’s not about isolating the block, but developping a theme block creating a sense of belonging among the inhabitants. The new program will offer a day-long activity scheddule to meet, work, study, eat... A high performance block.

Transitions

Sensitive gentrification Introducing a new theme in the block, attracting a target demographic will inevitably start a gentrification process in the neighbourhood. The aim is to soften this process by introducing a nonagressive program that will easily coexist with the current neighbours.

Time and Tipology

Hight contrast between public and private space is now an important issue to work on. There is a need to dissolve these limits and create more stages in between. Only then will it be possible to take full advantage of the block’s virtues.

A Building Inside // The towers take on the part of the intervention that hardens the block and draws the border around the perimeter. They indicate the way through them and into the gardens at groundfloor. They either complete the appartments adding an intermediate space to them, or they hold a temporary residence for students and entrepreneurs coming to take part in the neighbourhood and activities around it.

C Building on the roof // THE ATTICS The need to take on a construction process that wouldn’t harm the existing brick-walled structure forces the search for light materials. Using a light, renewable and versatile material such as aluminum, the project establishes a development pattern for the future occupation of other similar spaces around the city.
