Following few things must be considered while picking the right bandsaw blades so that you can achieve what you want to do.

Check the pitch or TPI TPI is called number of teeth per inch. If the TPI is lower, then you can cut faster and aggressively. With higher TPI you can cut clean however it will be slower cut.

Check the width of the blade Wider width will make the blade stiffer and are good for straight cut, particularly meant for cutting thinner boards. Narrower blades will be more useful in cutting on curved lines and they will have higher TPI. There are tables available that will help you to select right width of the blade depending upon the radius of the cut.

Blade thickness Blades are available in different thicknesses. The thinner blade will be more useful in cutting narrow cut. For cutting greener wood normally thicker blades are used.

Geometry of the tooth Blades are available in hook, skip and raker type. Each type of geometry has different applications however hook tooth is generally used for majority of applications.




Tooth material Most of the bandsaw blades are hardened carbon steel, bimetal or carbide tipped teeth. For different applications a particular type of blade is selected.
