Walk Reports Mount May On Saturday the 29th of August seven of us climbed up Mount May. One of the seven who is visiting from El Salvador named Moisés, found the walk both hard and an adventure. It was treacherous. The climb went up and up and it was humid and hot. Having previously walked up the mountain I found this time harder. The views were spectacular as always. We made it to the first peak with no injuries. Walking down to the saddle there was only one scary part. which was a four metre ledge. Malcolm found a different way back so we avoided the scary part on our return Six of us continued up to the second peak which was only a 30 minute walk/ scramble/ crawl. On the second peak Lynn stood at the highest point and declared that she was King of the castle. Moisés also declared himself to be king of the castle. We returned to the saddle for lunch . The track had lots of loose rocks which made it harder going down. There were minimum injuries and slips. No broken bones or bleeding limbs!! A few bumps and bruises! The walk took 6 1/2 hours. After our trek we went to a refreshment establishment where Moisés had his first lesson in Australian Slang. "ow ya goin? Up the creek bonza""
Until the next adventure!

The Cream Track - Sunday 30th August 2015 Over the last 15 or so years that I have been bushwalking discussion has often happened about the mysterious Cream Track, cut through the bush from Springbrook to the Tallebudgera Valley for the dairy farmers to take their cream to the processing plants on the coast after WW1. Today the mystery is being unveiled. A large group for a Sunday walk met at a park in Burleigh for a group shuttle to the small parking area in the Tallebudgera Valley where we start our walk. We had David (our leader), Gary, Peter, Tina, Mark, Karen R, Karen B, Donna, Graham, Anthony, Malcolm and myself all eager to discover the mystery.
At the end of the road we start off on a well formed road that services the properties along the bottom section of our walk. The roadway tends uphill with a few creek crossing to challenge those new to the group. The road has a number of junctions and as David had done this walk five or so weeks ago with a group including one of the land owners he guided us expertly to the left or right arms of the junctions as needed. We continue climbing the mountain on the roadway stopping here and there to admire the views along the way. The road continues up a ridgeline eventually passing a banana plantation which has seen better days. On we continued stopping here and there as needed as the road has few flat areas and a number of quite steep sections until we reached an area with ribbons marking our bush track exit. This section of the walk was well taped as it is a newly established route which is still in the process of re-discovery and we are endeavouring not to cross land held by landholders who object to us walking through.

The climb continues upwards to the Springbrook plateau. After a break near a creek for morning tea we continued climbing until we reached another roadway which borders the national park – almost at the top now, still uphill and we passed through a gateway marked the Cream Track quite near the top of the mountain, we were all blown away by the views over the coast. Continuing on and after a further ten or so minutes we were on the road and at the picnic area for a very civilised long lunch stop before retracing our steps back down the hill to the cars. I would recommend this walk to everyone; we had a very leisurely pace and took about four hours to reach the lunch spot and something less than that to get back to the car park. The history of this walk is part of our heritage and I for one am very pleased it has been opened for bushwalkers to experience.
Happy birthday and best wishes to our club members celebrating their birthday in September:
Sue Simpson, Monique Rotheut & Kit Cullen
