A letter from Jan Sammons to Sue: Here is some information on the possible 3 day through walk which starts near Cooran. The walk is not a traditional bushwalk, although it does go through sections of bush. A lot of it is along country lanes, or across some private farms, very pretty in parts and some nice views. You have actually done part of it in 2008, when we had some of the bushwalkers up here and we went over to Kin Kin and did most of the Kin Kin circuit part plus a walk up to Cootharaba Views lookout. This is a slightly shorter version of the 3 day walk we did with friends some years ago. The total distance over 3 days is about 42k, so I will set it out day by day. Day 1. Meet in Cooran, and drive about 10 mins to the carpark in Camphor Rd, which is just off the Pomona Kin Kin Rd. Leave the cars there and walk uphill (not a big up) to Middle Lookout. Continue on to Twin Hills Lookout (good views from both these spots, plus a picnic table is we want to stop) Then down across a farm to another country road (Cootharaba Rd then Simpsons Rd) then some more bush track, and end the day at Cootharaba Views lookout. Camp here- a picnic table, some flat ground, no toilets, some tank water which needs treating, but good views down to the lake and the sea. DIstance 13k with no big ups or downs. Day 2. Down from the camp to Shepperson Park, then along country lanes plus a bit of private property and bushland. Arrive at Kin Kin pub, where we can camp beside the toilet and shower block beside the oval. Water available and I think the showers were hot. Key at the pub. Have a meal at the Kin Kin Pub that evening as its about 200m away. Day 2 is the part you have done most of it Sue, but in the opposite direction. Distance 13.5k with no big up, but the descent from the camp is a gradual down. Day 3. Leave the camp near pub and walk along a country road for a couple of kms to avoid retracing our route from yesterday. Further walking along country lanes, then ascend to Johnsons lookout (picnic table there), then walk through the bush for about 1.5k before coming out on Upper Pinbarren Rd. Follow this for a few kms past some farms, then cross the Pomona Kin Kin Rd and make our way to Camphor Rd carpark where we left the cars. Walk finishes here. Distance 15.5 with the ascent to Johnsons lookout a steep climb, but not a long one. Some hills as well, bit more down than up. So if people would like to do this sometime, it’s an enjoyable walk especially the meal at the pub part! There are no fees to pay, apart from a security deposit to get the shower key at Kin Kin. It's all part of the Noosa Trail Network which you can look up on-line.
