* This raises an interesting question of causality in terms of where the money to pay interest to banks comes from in the first place. It might appear that the more money the banks pay out to staff, the more can be repaid as interest and the more profits the banks can realise in the aggregate. This also has implications for the nature of growth and stability in capitalist economies where banks are constantly removing a proportion of the money supply from circulation in the form of equity.
