MAX GRUVER WAS A KIND AND GENEROUS YOUNG man who was deeply loved by his friends and family, loved sports with a passion, coached his little sister’s basketball team and published as a sports writer at www.defpen.com. He was so excited to begin preparing for his career in journalism at LSU, and had already made a new home in Louisiana.   A recent graduate of Blessed Trinity Catholic High School, Max arrived on campus as a freshman at Louisiana State University majoring in political journalism. A few short weeks later he was found unresponsive after a night of what police have described as intense hazing at the fraternity he had pledged. His Roswell family - permanently grieving - continues to fight for justice and to make sure this senseless tragedy never happens again to anyone else. #flyhighmax

The Max Gruver Foundation and the funds it raises are directed to raise awareness of the dangers of hazing, to teach the importance of looking out for each other, and to step in when a situation appears to be getting out of control, believing that together we can STOP THE HAZING. In May 2018, Louisiana Gov. John Bel Edwards signed the "Max Gruver Act,” along with three other bills meant to curb hazing at universities. Under the Max Gruver Act, anyone involved in a hazing incident that leads to a person's death would face up to five years in prison and a $10,000 fine. Also in May of last year, The Max Gruver Foundation awarded Roswell student Jack Milani the first Max Gruver Scholarship which is given to a student who shares Max’s love for sports and journalism.
