editor's note We all know—and can admit—2020 hasn’t gone to plan. These past several months have left me with the continuous thought that we are living through history. We learned about historical moments and memorable dates back in school, and it’s apparent we are living through a time that will be remembered and written about for years to come. Most of us have adjusted to this whirlwind of a year by working from home, FaceTiming with friends and family and finding our voices in issues that matter.

Businesses have had to pivot, speak up and rethink strategies to stay afloat. While we are a lifestyle magazine— writing and featuring restaurants, bars, hotels and shops in the Southern California community—every industry has been affected and learned lessons along the way. It hasn’t been the smoothest of times, but our community has shown an outpouring of inspirational support for one another. I’m excited to see this issue of LOCALE printed, sharing brands and small businesses in the Southern California community with you.

And I certainly can’t leave this note without acknowledging and thanking the essential workers who’ve risked their lives to help strangers this year. Always remember to be kind and respectful to one another. Instead of going back to “normal” after all of this is said and done, let’s strive to be better.
