Santa Barbara Youth Symphony Amy Williams, the creative and collaborative Director of Education and Community Engagement at the Santa Barbara Symphony took some time to let us know what to expect from their talented Youth Symphony as they return to the Lobero Theatre this season. Are you enjoying your role within Santa Barbara Youth Symphony, and the larger Santa Barbara classical music scene? My role in the Santa Barbara Youth Symphony and all of the programs within the Symphony’s Music Education Center is incredibly rewarding. The students and teachers that I have the opportunity to interact with are incredibly passionate about what they do and everyone is working towards the same goal – bringing great music to the kids of Santa Barbara Community. Can you tell us a little bit about the Santa Barbara Youth Symphony? The Santa Barbara Youth Symphony is an orchestra of approximately 75 talented 12-18 year-old musicians from all over Santa Barbara County and Ventura County. This group performs three concerts per year with the focus on traditional classical repertoire. Daniel Kepl started the original Youth Symphony in 1963 while he was a student in high school.
