BOXTALES in the Spotlight!

On the Stage

In October 2017, Boxtales Theatre Company premiered a brand new work, Stand Up Stories: Multicultural Tales to Live By. This production shares the ancient wisdom of Greek, Chinese, Ethiopian and Native American folk tales. More than 1,000 students attended performances, and this show will now go on to tour in schools state-wide! If you would like Boxtales to perform one of their many offerings at your child’s school, you can get more information at Boxtales.org/our-shows. Special thanks to the California Arts Council, Santa Barbara Bowl Foundation, Jackson Family Foundation, Santa Barbara Foundation and the Towbes Fund for the Performing Arts for giving this new production life.

In the coming year, nearly 1000 students will sing, dance, act or play an instrument on the Lobero stage. Santa Barbara Vocal Jazz Foundation, Santa Barbara Youth Symphony, Gustafson Dance, Santa Barbara Youth Ensemble Theatre, Santa Barbara Revels, Santa Barbara Aerial Festival and the AHA! Sing it Out program will all bring their culminating recitals home to the Lobero for a professional performance experience.

“I think you helped us by telling us that we should never forget our culture and what we grew up with.” – Jazmin, Guadalupe Elementary

Residency programs from Santa Barbara Vocal Jazz provide 6-8 weeks of in-classroom music history and performance training for local 4th, 5th and 6th graders. This program targets Title 1 schools, and residencies culminate in a heart-warming show on the Lobero stage.
