gricultural credit target for 201718 is fixed at Rs10 trillion, an 11% increase from the 2016-17 target of Rs9 trillion.

Budgetary provision for the Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme (MGNREGS) is at Rs48,000 crore, up from the Rs47,499 crore revised estimate for FY17. Total allocation for rural, agriculture and allied sectors is Rs1,87,223 crore, 24% higher than a year ago. Coverage of crop insurance scheme Fasal Bima Yojana is to be increased from 30% of cropped area in 2016-17 to 40% in 2017-18 and 50% in 2018-19. Provision of Rs5,500 crore for this scheme in 2016-17 was raised to Rs9,000 crore. A dedicated micro irrigation fund is to be set up at the National Bank for Agriculture and Rural Development (NABARD), with an initial corpus of Rs5,000 crore. Rural roads construction scheme Pradhan Mantri Gram Sadak Yojana (PMGSY) gets Rs19,000 crore.

IPOs in the first eight months of 2017-18, much higher than the cumulative amount raised in the last five fiscals, Parliament was informed. These 117 initial public offers (IPOs) include 28 main-board public offers and the remaining for small and

medium enterprises (SMEs), Minister of State for Finance Pon Radhakrishnan said in a written reply to Lok Sabha. During April-November of 2017-18 fiscal, a total of 117 companies raised ₹62,736 crore through IPO route. This was much more than the cumulative amount of ₹62,147 crore garnered in the last five financial years. Besides, the ongoing fiscal has witnessed the highest IPO activity since 2007-08, when companies had mopped up ₹52,219 crore through the route. The IPO chart in this fiscal is led by General Insurance Corporation of India (GIC) that garnered over ₹11,176 crore. This was the largest public float by any firm after the October 2010 offer by Coal India which raised ₹15,000 crore. GIC is followed by New India Assurance Company that raised

monetary policy signals, the RBI noted in its ‘Report on Trends and Progress of Banking in India (2016-

2017).’ It said that loan growth of scheduled commercial banks had improved to 6.2 per cent at the end of September 2017 as compared to 5 per cent at the end of June 2017. Stressed assets have stabilised

at an elevated level (12.2 per cent in Q2 of 2017-18). The report noted the relatively better performance in the NBFC sector,

with their balance-sheets expanding 6 per cent year-on-year in the first half. Their loan book grew at an impressive 14.9 per cent — a full 7 percentage points higher than the previous year.

With an existing fleet of 150 planes, IndiGo is readying to add another 448 aircraft — 399 A320s and 49 ATRs — in the next seven to eight years.
