Local bands light up LI nights This newspaper has had the privilege of introducing its readers to a number of impressive local musicians, and when someone local achieves something notable, we want you to know. Several of our previously featured bands have had busy summers – read on for updates on some of our local favorites. Face the King, with Eric Zirlinger, Bellmore’s Joey Dammacco, Wantagh’s Dan DelVecchio and new drummer Randy Palumbo have a lot to be excited about. They recently won the opportunity to play at Vans Warped Tour 2012 on Saturday at Nassau Coliseum. In order to win, they had to beat out over 20,000 other bands nationwide. Face the King is scheduled to play at The Legendary Dobbs in Philadelphia on August 24, and back on Long Island at the Middle Country Beer Garden in Centereach on Saturday, August 25. The band is participating in a contest to have a song featured in a Dodge commercial. Visit Face the King at www.facethekingband.com, or on Facebook for more information.

Signal For Pilot, who recently also had a line up change, comprises Chris Ruzika of Wantagh, and Patrick Flanagan and Scotty Truelson of Levittown. The band recently released its debut EP, titled “Aurora.” It is available online at iTunes, Amazon, Spotify, Google Music Store, Zune Marketplace and streaming on radio. This September, Saturday and Sunday the 29-30, Signal for Pilot will be performing as part of the Songwriters Showcases of American New Music Festival in New York City. Visit Signal for Pilot at www.signalforpilot.com or on Facebook to keep up with the latest news. Merrick rockers TOXIN will be performing at Tanger Outlets at The Arches in Deer Park as part of the Sounds of Summer Concert Series on Saturday, August 4, at 6 p.m. This is their second performance with the concert series for the summer. This free show is open to all, and is a great opportunity to support the band while enjoying the outlets. Visit www.toxinrocks.com, or visit them on Facebook for more information. – I.M.

Rachel’s Waterside Grill: a delicious seafood retreat by Laura Amante, Carissa Gagliardi, Arielle Martinez and Leah Sobel A stormy day did not stop four Citizen interns from enjoying a delicious lunch at Rachel’s Waterside Grill on the Nautical Mile, part of the new Freeport Water Taxi route. They were greeted by Rich Venticinque, one of the owners, and Leticia Polanco, a manager, who provided delicious samplings of their menu and an opportunity to learn more about Rachel’s Waterside Grill. Rachel’s Waterside Grill has been open for 16 years, and is busiest on summer weekends. It’s known for its seafood, such as lobster sliders, tuna nachos and baked clams. This restaurant

has a causal and comfortable atmosphere. “It is a family friendly place,” said Ms. Polanco. Upon entering the restaurant, there is a perfect mix of comfort and luxury from the décor and the courteous staff. The wall of windows onto the wide canal gives each customer a beautiful view of the bay. A lovely painting of the beach that goes around the perimeter – and the brightness from the picture windows – gives the restaurant a cheerful ambience. Seating outside is also offered, and lights above the tables glow brightly at night. Even though this establishment is kidfriendly (they are each given a children’s menu and crayons), the top-shelf food is sophisticated and upscale. Because of its
