Writing 1:  Wherever  you  will  go   Dear  diary,  some  days  ago  I  decided  to  have  a  tattoo  with  my  boyfriend’s   name,   Jake.   I   was   coming   home   to   show   it   to   Jake   when   I   saw   him   with   another   girl   in   our   bed!     I   went   to   the   dining   room   and   I   destroyed   everything  I  found:  photos,  plates,  the  mirror  and  many  other  things.   Before   he   came   to   apologize   me,   I   left   to   look   for   consolation   in   my   exceptional   friend   Peter.   I   have   known   him   for   a   long   time   and   always   liked  him,  so  I’ve  taken  advantage  and  have  kissed  him.  At  that   moment  I   realized  that  he  could  be  the  love  of  my  life.  I  asked  him  if  he  wanted  to  be   my   boyfriend,   and   he   said   yes.   Later   I   remembered   my   Jake’s   tattoo,   so   I   called   Anton,   and   he   told   me   that   I   should  go  the  next  week  to  delete  it.  I  think  that  I  will  get   a  tattoo  with  a  flower  instead  of  the  other  one,  because   the  flower  can  be  the  symbol  of  my  new  fantastic  love.                           ~  1  ~

Writing 2:  My  picture

For me,  this  photo  is  really  exciting,  because  my  father  appears  restoring   and   repairing   the   motorcycle   that   he   drove   when   he   was   seventeen.   Recently   he   also   said   to   me   that   if   he   finishes   it   soon   and   I   get   good   grades,   he   will   let   me   get   the   motorcycle   license   this   year   and   he   will   probably  give  it  to  me.  I’m  very  happy  for  this.   Well,   it   was   taken   in   the   garden   of   our   house,   on   a   Sunday   at   9:00   AM,   and   for   this   reason   I   consider   that   it’s   an   unusual   photo:   my   father   has   never  got  up  before  12:30  on  a  Sunday,  it’s  absolutely  striking.   I   think   it’s   a   colorful   image,   because   the   picture   is   dominated   by   very   bright   and   intense   colors   like   the   light   green   of   the   grass,   the   strong   yellow  of  the  motorcycle,  the  orange  of  the  towels…     The   funniest   part   of   the   picture   is   that   it   looks   like   my   dad   is   farting,   because   the   smoke   is   just   behind   his   ass!   The   other   day,   while   we   were   having  dinner,  I  show  it  to  my  family  and  we  laughed  a  lot,  even  my  dad.       ~  2  ~

Writing 3:  A  news  story   This  was  the  dramatic  scene  yesterday  at  a  little  village  in  Mallorca  called   Carritxó.   A   train   accident   occurred   at   eleven   o’clock   in   Carritxó.   It   was   been  caused  by  some  deer  that  were  crossing  the  railway.     The   train   was   in   the   steepest   curve   of   its   trip   when   the   driver   saw   the   animals   in   front   of   him.   His   reaction   was   to   brake   the   maximum   as   possible,   which   was   terrible.   The   brakes   jammed   and   the   train   derailed   and  fell  into  the  precipice.   The  firefighters  arrived  in  fifteen  minutes  thanks  to  a  farmer  that  saw  the   accident   from   his   living   room   and   immediately   phoned   them.   First,   they   went  to  help  the  cars  that  fell  into  the  gully.  They  found  only  seven  people   living.  All  of  them  were  in  a  state  of  shock  after  surviving  miraculously  this   experience.  The  rest  were  dead.     Currently   ten   bodies   have   been   found,   and   the   firefighters   estimate   that   there   are   more   than   thirty   missing   under   the   debris.   The   oldest   survivor   said,   after   speaking   with   our   correspondent   in   Spain:   “when   we   were   falling,   I   only   thought   that   this   was   the   last   moment   of   my   life.   I   can’t   believe  that  I’m  alive!”  After  twenty-‐four  hours  of  the  accident,  the  news   has   spread   around   the   world,   and   a   lot   of   people   have   travelled   to   Mallorca  to  support  the  families  of  the  victims.                                 ~  3  ~

Writing 4:  How  have  I  changed?   I’ve  changed  a  lot  since  2008.  I  was  in  first  of  ESO  in  the  same  school  that   now,   when   I’m   in   fourth   of   ESO,   the   institute   SES   Pla   Marcell.   In   my   opinion   the   most   important   change   has   been   produced   in   my   way   of   thinking.   Now   I’m   more   mature   and   I’ve   forgotten   children’s   behaviors,   like   crying   or   arguing   with   my   parents   for   anything.   I’m   also   more   responsible  than  I  was,  for  example  nowadays  I  can  perfectly  stay  alone  at   home   at   night   or   cook   by   myself.   Besides,   at   this   moment   I   feel   more   secure  about  my  own  self,  because  I’ve  understood  that  if  I  work  hard,  I   can  get  my  aims.  My  academics  preferences  have  also  changed:  on  first  of   ESO   I   loved   Spanish   and   P.E.,   and   I   hated   Maths,   otherwise   that   now,   when   I   hate   chemistry   and   I   love   Maths,   and   especially,   Catalan.   I   think   that  the  passion  for  this  language  has  consolidated  my  Catalan  identity.   On   the   other   hand,   physically   I   have   changed   a   lot.   The   most   important   change  has  been  in  my  height,  because  I  think  that  in  first  of  ESO  I  wasn’t   more  than  150  cm  taller.  This  height  remained  until  last  year,  when  I  grew   a   little.   With   the   adolescence,   I   imagine   that   my   features   have   also   changed:  in  2008  they  were  like  a  child,  and  now  I  suppose  that  they  are   like  a  little  adult.  Two  items  that  has  been  added  to  me  are,  the  glasses,   (actually  I  wear  contacts),  and  the  brackets,   wearing  both   since  the   end  of   2009.   And   the   last   important   change   is   in   my   hair,   because   as   you   can   see   in   the   photo,   in   first   of   ESO   I   had   long   hair   and   a   very   long   fringe,   and   today,  I  continue  with  long  hair,  but  not  much  as  before,  so  people  say  to   me  that  I  seem  the  singer  Justin  Bieber.                         ~  4  ~

Writing 5:  My  life  history   I  was  born  in  a  hospital  of  Granollers  in  1996.  Until  I  was  three  we  were   living   in   a   flat   in   Montmeló,   which   I   can’t   remember   anything,   because   I   was   too   young   when   we   moved   to   my   actual   house,   in   Santa   Agnès   de   Malanyanes.   I   think   that   this   has   been   a   perfect   house   for   my   family,   because  it’s  situated  near  Barcelona  but  it  hasn’t  the  problems  of  it;  it  isn’t   noisy,   there   aren’t   many   people…   I   think   we   won’t   move   again   during   a   long  period  of  time,  because  here  we  have  found  the  perfect  lifestyle.   My  earliest  memory  isn’t  very  clear,  in  fact,  it’s  completely  hazy.  I  think  my   first  memory  is  from  when  I  was  seven.  I  was  opening  my  Christmas  gifts   in   the   living   room,   when   I   saw   a   kart   through   the   window,   the   same   that   I   had  seen  in  the  old  photo  albums  of  my  father.  He  had  just  given  me  his   most   valuable   thing   of   his   youth.   It   was   so   special.   I   also   remember   my   first  day  at  primary  school.  I  cried  all  morning,  because  the  new  teacher,   Teresa,  reminded  me  of  witch.  After  a  few  days,  I  realized  that  she  was  a   very  good  teacher.   I’ve  been  at  SES  Pla  Marcell  for  four  years,  but  this  will  be  my  last  year  in   this  school  because  we  can’t  do  “Batxillerat”  here,  so  we  must  find  another   school   soon.   I’ve   changed   a   lot   since   I   started   secondary   school.   Now   I’m   more   mature   and   responsible.   When   I   finish   school,   I’ll   probably   do   a   degree   course,   and,   if   I   can,   I’ll   work   with   my   father   in   his   company.   Before   I’m  old  I  really  want  to  parachute  and  see  our  little  world  from  the  air.                             ~  5  ~

Writing 6:  10  things  I  would  like  to  do  before  I’m  20   I   really   want   to   skydive   and   to   bath   in   a   waterfall.   I   also   like   the   idea   of   going   to   England   to   study   English,   learning   to   drive   and   going   to   Australia.   I’ve   always   wanted   to   fly   a   helicopter   or   a   plane   and   to   swim   on   the   Dead   sea.  I’m  interested  in  meeting  Messi  or  another  Barça’s  player,  and  to  go   to   a   concert   of   a   very   popular   singer.   Finally,   I’m   super   interested   in   going   to  a  Champions  final  between  Barça  and  any  other  team.   A  thing  which  I  will  never  do  is  to  swim  with  sharks!

Writing 7:  I  promise  myself   I   read   a   book   last   week.   It   was   about   a   love   story   between   a   man   and   a   woman.   He   was   called   Peter   and   his   girlfriend   Mary.   During   the   first   chapters,  the  book  explains  how  they  met:  both  loved  the  engine’s  world   since   they   were   young,   and   for   this   reason,   one   Sunday   they   met   by   chance  in  a  car  race.  In  that  moment  he  was  the  driver  of  one  of  the  cars   and  he  won  the  race.  When  he  got  out  of  the  vehicle,  he  saw  her  sitting  on   a  bench,  crying.  He  sat  with  her  and  asked  why  she  was  crying.  Then  she   answer   Peter   she   just   hung   up   her   boyfriend,   she   had   just   split   up.   He   tried   to   cheer   up   her,   saying   soon   she   would   find   another   man   like   or   better   than   her   ex-‐boyfriend,   Paul.   They   gave   each   other   them   number   phones.     In  the  follow  chapters…  they  met  in  a  restaurant  to  dinner,  because  they   had   phoned   the   following   day   of   the   race.   That   night   they   fell   in   love,   and   they   met   a   lot   of   days.   One   day   they   went   to   the   beach,   another   to   the   cinema,   but   the   best   day   was   in   Andorra:   they   went   to   ski   there   the   second  weekend  that  they  passed  together.  The  things  went  perfect,  but   one  day  Peter  had  to  leave  to  Barcelona  because  he  received  the  piece  of   news  that  his  mother  was  terminally  ill,  and  she  only  had  two  days  of  life.   During   these   days,   Mary   met   her   former   friends,   included   Paul.   The   second  day  Peter  was  in  Barcelona,  they  went  to  the  beach,  and  Mary  was   in  the  water  with  Paul  when  something  attacks  her.  Peter’s  mum  had  just   died   when   the   hospital   of   Granollers   called   him.   Mary   was   in   the   hospital.   He   went   to   the   hospital   to   visit   Mary,   so   he   wasn’t   able   to   attend   to   his   mum  burial.  When  he  arrived  there,  she  was  with  Paul.     He  understood  that  she  returned  with  Paul.  Mary  said  him  that  the  time   they   had   passed   together   was   fantastic,   but   it   was   unreal,   because   his   authentic   love   was   Paul.   Peter   fell   into   a   deep   depression,   and   he   committed  suicide  in  the  same  week,  in  the  same  place  as  his  mother.     I  know  it’s  a  tragic  book,  but  I  hope  you  read  it  this  summer.                                         You  will  like  it!     ~  7  ~

Writing 8.  Welcome  to  my  17’s  party!   Hello  everybody!  As  you  know,  next  week  I  will  be  17,  so  I’ve  thought  that   I   could   celebrate   a   party.   Finally,   I’ve   decided   to   do   it   in   my   dad’s   pub,   because   there,   if   you   want,   we   can   have   dinner   and   then   dance   in   the   music   zone.   The   people,   who   have   dinner   there,   have   to   be   at   Star   Street,   number  67,  this  Saturday  at  22:30.  The  rest  can  come  over  00.00.  If  all  of   you   confirm   me   that   you   can   come   before   this   Wednesday,   we   will   be   over  40!  It  is  going  to  be  a  great  party,  and  the  best  is  that  you  only  have   to  bring  your  batteries  fully  charged!   PD:  Don’t  forget  my  gift!  See  you  on  Saturday!   Lluís  (672.24.16.29)                               ~  8  ~

Writing 9.  My  town   Santa   Agnès   is   a   town   situated   near   Barcelona,   one   of   the   most   important   cities   of   the   country,   and   near   the   beach,   which   means   that   there   you   are   in   the   perfect   place,   because   you   can   get   to   Barcelona   in   30   minutes   by   train  or  to  the  beach  in  20  minutes  by  car.  Moreover,  Santa  Agnès  has  only   1.500  inhabitants,  so  it’s  very  calm.  Even  more,  there  are  a  wide  range  of   outdoor   activities   to   do   there,   such   as   hiking,   climbing,   running,   etc.   But   if   you   prefer   to   do   indoor   activities,   there   is   an   indoor   pool,   a   tennis   and   paddle  tennis  court,  and  a  sports  hall…     Regarding  the  shopping  in  Santa  Agnès,  I  can  only  say  it’s  fabulous:  there   is   a   shopping   centre   called   La   Roca   Village,   which   is   the   second   most   visited  place  of  Catalonia,  after  La  Sagrada  Família.                             ~  9  ~

Writing 10.  The  new  library  it’s  ready!    -‐  This  was  a  fantastic  surprise!  Said  Antoni,  the  headmaster.  The  project   began  several  months  ago,  when  a  small  group  of  students  and  teachers   decided   to   create   a   library   for   the   school.   They   are   the   ones   who   are   participating   in   “the   reading   time”,   an   optional   subject   that   started   last   year,   and   had   as   an   objective   to   create   a   place   where   the   members   of   the   group  could  read  and  share  opinions  of  the  books.   When  the  subject  started,  they  had  to  go  to  read  to  the  empty  classrooms   that   they   found.   At   first,   this   was   OK,   but   the   readers   increased   quickly,   and  they  needed  a  specific  classroom.  For  this  reason,  they  fitted  out  the   dining   hall   and   converted   it   into   the   new   library   of   the   school.   At   the   moment,   it   has   approximately   500   books,   but   the   management   team   hopes  to  achieve  1000  books  during  this  year.   The  official  opening  will  be  on  the  20th  of  March,  and  all  of  you  are  invited.                           ~  10  ~

Writing 11.  My  holidays  in  Sydney   Dear   Mum   and   Dad,   I’m   writing   from   Sydney.   We   arrived   here   two   days   ago,   on   Monday,   after   walking   for   about   30   km.   The   walking   has   been   a   little  hassle,  but  I’m  very  happy  to  achieve  the  challenge.  During  the  long   walk   we’ve   had   some   obstacles.   For   example,   the   second   day,   Peter   fainted  because  of  the  sun,  but  we  found  a  hospital  luckily.  Yesterday  we   also   missed   the   train   going   to   Melbourne.   Even   though,   we’re   having   a   great  time,  and  I  have  a  lot  of  funny  stories  which  I’m  hoping  to  tell  you   very  soon.   In  the  following  days  we  are  going  to  the  north,  by  train,  and  there  we  are   visiting   some   museums   and   monuments.   Looking   forward   to   seeing   you   soon.   I  love  you!   Lluís  XXX                         ~  11  ~

Writing 12.  My  English  Pen  Pal   Dear  Peter!  I  haven’t  written  to  you  since  last  month,  so  now  I  have  a  lot   of  things  to  tell  you.  Because  I  can  only  send  100  words,  today  I’m  going  to   tell   you   about   my   favorite   sport.   This   is   indoor   soccer,   and   I   play   it   in   Cardedeu’s   team.   Actually   we   are   in   a   good   league,   but   I   think   this   is   because  in  Catalonia  indoor  soccer  is  a  minority  sport,  so  there  are  a  few   teams   in   the   country.   Even   so,   I   love   this   sport,   and   I   have   a   great   time   with   the   people   of   my   team,   because   we   are   playing   together   since   we   were  young.   Lluís  XXX                                 ~  12  ~

Writing 14.  Don  Quijote  de  la  Mancha   Dear  James,     I  have  already  read  the  book  I  was  telling  you  about:  El  Ingenioso  Hidalgo   Don  Quijote  de  la  Mancha.  The  author  is  Miguel  de  Cervantes,  one  of  the   most   important   writers   of   the   Spain's   literature.   During   the   book,   don   Quijote,   a   knight   errant,   travels   with   his   loyal   squire,   Sancho   Panza,   around   Spain,   trying   to   conquer   his   beloved,   Dulcinea   del   Toboso.   To   achieve  it,  he  takes  part  in  battles  and  offers  his  victories  to  her.   I  liked  this  book  a  lot,  so  I  would  definitely  recommend  it  to  you.   Lluís  XXX                               ~  14  ~

Writing 15.  Mediterranean  diet   Today  I'm  going  to  tell  you  about  the  Catalan  diet.  As  you  know  Catalonia   is  placed  in  the  Mediterranean,  so  during  a  long  time  here  we've  had  the   Mediterranean  diet,  considered  one  of  the  Intangible  Cultural  Heritage  of   Humanity.   This   diet   is   based   on   vegetables,   legumes,   fruit,   fish   and   olive   oil,   all   of   them   very   healthy.   But   according   to   the   latest   statistics,   the   number   of   obese   people   is   noticeably   increasing,   and   it’s   all   due   to   the   fact  that  the  traditional  native  diet  it’s  developing  to  the  actual  “fast  food”   diet,  which  is  not  very  nutritive  and  beneficial.                                   ~  15  ~

Writing 16.  Welcome  to  Vallès  Oriental   Vallès  Oriental  is  a  county  situated  in  Catalonia,  where  Granollers  it’s  the   capital.  It’s  between  Bages,  Osona,  Vallès  Occidental,  La  Selva,  Barcelonès   and  Maresme.  The  most  important  counties  in  contact  with  Vallès  Oriental   are  Barcelonès  and  Maresme,  because  in  Barcelonès  there  is  the  capital  of   Catalonia,   Barcelona.   There,   you   can   go   shopping   or   to   visit   many   important   buildings,   like   La   Sagrada   Família,   La   Casa   Batlló   or   La   Església   de  Santa  Eulàlia.  The  most  important  city  of  Maresme  is  Mataró,  and  you   can  arrive  there  in  only  15  minutes,  by  car.  There  you  can  go  to  the  beach,   or  if  you  prefer,  you  can  have  a  traditional  meal  near  the  beach.   But   if   you   don’t   want   to   move,   in   Granollers   there   are   a   lot   of   activities   to   do;   during   the   winter,   in   the   middle   of   Granollers   there’s   a   big   ice   rink   where   you   can   skate   or   dance.   If   you   prefer   to   do   more   relaxing   activities,   you   can   walk   around   the   city,   going   through   the   dense   forests   enjoying   its   peace.   But   the   best   activities   are   concentrated   in   the   summer,   because   there  are  a  lot  of  outdoor  activities,  such  as  running,  jogging,  hiking  and  of   course  cycling.     In   conclusion,   Vallès   Oriental   is   the   best   county,   because   of   its   situation   and  its  perfect  possibilities.
