Elders Linda and Daryl Brass visit Edgewater Elementary School and Windermere Elementary School. Friday October 12th, 2018

Linda and Darryl Brass Visit Edgewater Elementary School October 12, 2018 Teachings on Sweetgrass, Turtle, Wolf and Bear Grade 7 Students were asked to write what they learned, this is selection of what they wrote. When Elders Darryl and Linda came to our school to talk about some of the teachings on how to be a good person, we listened intently. They told us about the Sweetgrass braid and how it is so strong because it is made up of three things: kindness from the Grandfather Sun, caring from Mother Earth and sharing from Grandmother moon. Then they told us about respecting women and girls because they are mothers and will create more human beings and to protect them. Also, they told us about bullying. If you don’t like someone, no matter why, it is not okay to be mean. When you see someone you don’t like, what you’re seeing bad in them is actually what you see in yourself that you don’t like. They told us lots of good things and that we need to be strong like the sweetgrass braid through it all. We thank them for coming. By Ursula

The things you point out on other people are the things you may not like when you look in the mirror, learn to love yourself. There is no perfect body shape, hair or clothes you should be wearing. They are already a perfect you. By Sam I learned that it is not ok to treat women the way they are being treated, and bullying is also happening in many different places right now and that is not ok. We look at people and try to destroy there self confidence because of what we don’t like about ourselves. They told us and listened to them. If we ever want to be able to respect women and people we need to listen carefully. By Austin They talked about how men should be respectful to the women because they will be mothers on day and how kids should respect their mothers. They also talked about bullying and to not bully people because of their hair or clothes and not to do it at all. They also had sweetgrass braid that had three parts, sharing caring and kindness. By No name They were both very nice and kind. They talked about the sweet grass and about bullying. They said that if you talk about someone you don’t like to other people then pretty soon nobody will like that person and why you don’t like that person is because of something you don’t like about your self. By Jesse I learned from the elders that bullying can only lead to a negative environment. By Kayley Treat your moms with care because you will be a mom some day too and you probably would like to be treated with care when you are older. By No name
