NINGBO

Formerly written Ningbo, is a sub-provincial city in norheast Zhejiang province in the People's Republic of China. It comprises the urban districts of Ningtnd a number of rural counties including islands in Hangzhou Bay and the East China Sea. Its port, spread across several locations, is among the busiest in the world and the municipality possesses as searate state-planning status. According to site analysis, generally this site is quite suitable for a literature club, light condition is adequate, surroundings are comfortable without many high skyscrapers and the micro-climat is comfortable in this place.

Xiushui street area is a traditional area in the centre of city. After research, it is found that there are three characteristics of this area: Prosperous in old time Experiencing different historical time full of treasure but hidden This area used to be the best place in ningbo, but now it is graduallly discard by people because of messy environment and ruinous houses. After research, I found there used to be a river before 1950s, people enjoyed the river life. Now, the site history, culture and memory are gone with the river, only messy and disharmonious elements left. This river carries too many things. Therefore, Bring back what it lost is the priority, and then improve it through a modern way to realize the concept on building.

PROJECT THREE- 'CIRCLE-CITY'

BREAK DOWN OVER SCALE URBAN SPACE TO HUMAN FRIENDLY WAY 12

CIRCLE-CITY - SITE INTRO &BACKGROUND BACKGROUND

2001 Both 1993 and revised 2007 master plan for Lujiazui are showing a considerable weight on office and retail development. It is projected that in the Shanghai Tower only, as many as 16.000 people will be employed. To accommodate this amount of new offices a vast amount of current residents will be relocated. Which impact does this have on the area, and the city as a whole, that such amounts of people would need to commute large distances to and from work? For this project we are revising the notion of CBD. How does it appear in the future, and how does it shape the largest city in the world? Hereunder A RECONSIDERATION OF CURRENT STRATEGIES IS NECESSARY; OUR QUESTION IS HOW TO BREAK DETACHED AREA DOWN?

CIRCLE-CITY - DESIGN PROCESS STRATEGYS

Basically, we followed the layers of strategies which are generated from our vision "CIRCLE CITY". Firstly, the circular secondary pedestrain road is created in the road strategy. Secondly, the function is designed by the identities (nodes) of the circle. Thirdly, for the building height, we combined high-rise, mid-rise and low-rise which creates city wave. Fourthly, we planned nodes at approriate distance for pedestrain use. Finally, it is clearly that the green space is used to strengthen concept, by green space which creates space for people to have a rest.

• Intervention: solutions for problematic urban situations. • Livable cities: creating more socially friendly areas of cities, focus on needs of local communities. • Environmental responsiveness: designing buildings that work with, rather than in spite of, the local climate. • Alternative transportation: looking at ways of prioritising pedestrians, cyclists & public transport.
