LAWRENCE, JENNY, JOHN, and SARAH exit an old run down cab in front of Hotel Suave. The hotel is a large, modern building with a large stone fountain in front of it. The four take out their luggage as one of the young bell hops greets them and takes their bags. BELL HOP Welcome to Hotel Suave. Let me take your bags so you can go to the front desk and check in. JOHN Man, this place is nice. I thought Brazil was just a bunch of shitty buildings. SARAH Are you seriously that stupid, John? JOHN Shut up. JENNY Is it necessary for you guys to fight everywhere we go? Why can’t you be like me and Lawrence? JOHN laughs and puts his arm around SARAH’s shoulder. LAWRENCE Let’s just go inside and check in. I’m so tired I might just cheat on Jenny with the bed. 2

The bell hop drops the bags inside the room as LAWRENCE hands him a tip as he begins to exit the room. BELL HOP Thank you, sir. JOHN This place is the shit. Just admit it Sarah. LAWRENCE Are you serious? If we don’t do this, then we fail our biology class. JENNY So what exactly are we going to be doing with these guides then? LAWRENCE The first day we are just going to travel decently far into the woods and set up camp. The next two days we are suppose to document anything we have talked about in class, like types of trees or any exotic animals. Am I the only one that paid attention in that class? JENNY That is seriously one of the most boring classes I have ever taken. Do you really think any of us would pay attention? LAWRENCE Obviously not. SARAH walks out of the bathroom and into the room with just a towel on. SARAH I’m done. Anyone else that needs to take a shower, it is open. JOHN About damn time. What were you doing in there? Putting together a thousand piece puzzle while combing your hair? SARAH Shut up, John. Why do you have to be such a jerk? JOHN Oh babe, you know that I’m just teasing you. LAWRENCE Come on you guys. How may I help you today? JENNY We are here for the party. HOTEL WORKER Alright, let me show you to your table then. The HOTEL WORKER walks them over to an open table and has a waiter come over to serve them. CEASAR Hello everyone, my name is Ceasar and I will be your waiter today. We have an open buffet behind you that you may help yourselves to at any time. If you need anything at all, just call me over. JENNY Thank you Ceasar. Ceasar walks away from the table, and right as he leaves JOHN and LAWRENCE jump out of their seats and run towards the buffet.

JENNY Well you know when Lawrence went to boot camp? SARAH Yeah? JENNY When he was gone I went to this party and got really drunk. Towards the end of the night I met this one guy. One thing led to another, and next thing I know I’m waking up next to him the next morning. I never told Lawrence, so please don’t tell him. SARAH Your secret is safe with me. LAWRENCE and JOHN walk back to the table with a tray filled with food. JOHN What were you ladies talking about over here? SARAH Oh, nothing.

Why is there going to be two tour guides? There is only four of us. LAWRENCE I don’t know. When I called they told me that it was going to be him and another guy for security reasons. Don’t really know what that means though. JENNY That’s weird. LAWRENCE Does it really matter though? I’m going to bed though. I’ll see you guys in the morning. LAWRENCE goes to bed. The others finish packing up and, then go to sleep. 7

INT. HOTEL LOBBY - DAY

Everyone walks down to the lobby carrying all of their camping gear. They all had backpacks with sleeping bags and water containers attached to them. There are only a few people walking around, and only one worker there. They all sit down inside next to the doors, close to an older, creepy looking guy. JOHN How will we know when the guides get here? LAWRENCE They said the would find us. They will probably see all of our camping gear. OLD GUY What’s all this gear you guys have here for?

LAWRENCE We are going camping in the rain forest to do some research for one of our college classes. OLD GUY Oh, I see. Well I will warn you to be careful out there. Not everyone makes it out. JENNY Why do you say that? OLD GUY There is an ancient story about the forest. JOHN What kind of story? OLD GUY A true story. John nervously laughs as the others listen tentativly to the OLD MAN. JOHN Okay, what is this story than, old man? OLD GUY A long time ago there was a man that lived in the forest. One day he found a tiger playing with the man’s dog. Instead of trying to kill the animal, he decided to pet it. JOHN Why the hell would anyone pet a wild tiger? SARAH Shut up, and let him finish the story. OLD GUY After petting it, he realized that the tiger was very friendly and became good friends with it. A few days later the man put a leash on the animal. The tiger started walking in a certain direction. (MORE) (CONTINUED)

10. OLD GUY (cont’d) After about an hour of walking the tiger came to a stop.

The OLD GUY stops talking as TWO MEN with tribal tattoos, wearing worn down clothes walk into the hotel and stand next to the group. JENNY Then what happened? OLD GUY Oh, sorry. Well as the tiger stopped, the man tried to move it, but was unsucessful. He took this time as a time to rest. While resting, the man looked around and started hearing weird noises. A few minutes later he was surrounded by things that were considered undescribable. JOHN What do you mean undescribable? OLD GUY I don’t know. No one really knows. They don’t if it were people, animals, or some sort of spirit. Either way, that was the last time the man was seen. But to this day it is said that that same tiger walks around in search of more people to feed to the undescribable things. JOHN Okay, like I would ever believe that. Can you guys believe this guy? No one responds to JOHN. LAWRENCE looks up at the TWO MEN that are still standing close to them. LAWRENCE I’m sorry, can we help you guys with something? TUPI Hello, my name is Tupi and this is my brother Dahanna. We are your tour guides. You must be Lawrence, the one we talked to on the phone a few weeks ago. (CONTINUED)

LAWRENCE nods his head in agreement. JOHN Your name is Dona? SARAH punches John in the arm. DAHANNA No, my name is Dahanna. JENNY What is up with all of your tattoos? TUPI Our tattoos are marking that we have earned through out our lives. We are members of the Marcelo indian tribe. LAWRENCE That’s weird, I’ve studied a lot of things about Brazil, but I have never heard of the Marcelo indian tribe. DAHANNA We are a people of very small numbers, and live discreatly. We do not let outsiders into our tribal area. TUPI That is enough questions for now. We will have plenty of time to talk on our drive to the forest. Everyone, grab your belongings and head to the van outside. Everyone takes their luggage and stuffs into the old, rusted van. 8

SARAH Are we going to get bit by snakes are attacked by a tiger? DAHANNA That’s not what you are going to have to worry about. TUPI It is the insects and diseases that will kill you. Don’t pay any attention to what that old man said to you back in the hotel. SARAH What? Screw this, I’m not going in there. DAHANNA You will be fine, just don’t drink anything, and do what we tell you to do. LAWRENCE looks up and notices cut marks on the back of DAHANNA’s neck. LAWRENCE What’s up with all those big ass cut marks on the back of your neck, Dahanna? DAHANNA quickly covers up the cut marks with his hands and hankerchief. DAHANNA These cut marks? Oh, umm, I got them when I was hunting. I was up in a tree and one of the branches collapsed. I fell to the ground and must have cut up my neck on the branches as I was falling.

JOHN That had to suck. What were you hunting? DAHANNA We were hunting a certain type of iguana. It is very difficult to find, and even harder to kill. Our tribe takes pride in killing difficult animals. JOHN Did you guys kill the iguana, or stop? TUPI We never let anything get in the way of killing our prey. No matter how hurt, or sick we are. We will not stop. JOHN So? DAHANNA Yes, we killed that iguana. We used an ancient trick of making the animal think we were somewhere else so that we could sneak up and kill it. LAWRENCE And how exactly did you do that? DAHANNA It is an ancient trick that has been passed down from generation to generation. It took years to learn and master. There is no way of simply telling you how we do it. All I can tell you is that we are always in the last place our prey would suspect. TUPI Enough about us now. What about you guys? Any of you have something special about you? SARAH I was voted prettiest back in high school.

After parking the van, TUPI and the rest of the people in the vehicle get out. The rainforest is filled with extremely large trees that darken the environment the engulf. After pulling out all their backpacks and putting them on, the group stood in front of TUPI and DAHANNA awaiting their instructions. TUPI Does everybody have all of their stuff. LAWRENCE Yup. Led by Tupi, the group begins walking into the rainforest towards their camp site. The rainforest is filled with thick trees and vast wildlife. It is very dark with scattered streams of light falling upon the cluttered ground and branches. SARAH If I get bit by one more stupid bug I am going to flip the hell out. JOHN Babe, you will be fine.
