Mission Statement: Established in 1981, the Llama Association of North America (LANA), serves the camelid community be sponsoring medical research specific to llamas and alpacas; providing current and accurate information about camelid health and care; advocating for pro-camelid legislation and access to public lands; encouraging, educating and mentoring camelid enthusiasts of all ages in their interactions with camelids; supporting rescue for camelids in distress; and hosting a variety of activities including youth programs, hiking trips, shows, parades, fiber clinics, educational events and more. 2

Editors Note: Marvelous May Show - Great weather, lots of fun, and a relaxing atmosphere - everything you want to experience at a show. My personal thanks going out to: Larry and Maureen Macedo for hosting the show at their ranch, the many volunteers who helped out, Sue Rich for putting together challenging performance courses, the exhibitors for their enjoyable camaraderie, and Ana Reese for coming coming out to California to judge the show. It felt good to return to a sense of “normal” even though we were wearing masks on and off through out the day (most attendees were vaccinated). Congratulations to Lisa Labendeira who is the 2020 recipient of the LANA HummDinger Award. Lisa was honored during the awards ceremony.

Marvelous May Show by Maureen Macedo, Superintendent
The LANA group was able to meet up for the first time in a while and attend the Marvelous May Performance and Halter Show on May 15 and 16 at Macedo's Mini Acre ranch in Turlock, California. A total of 28 llamas (well, 27 llamas and 1 alpaca) were entered in the show. The judge was Ana Reese, who was a delight to work with. We thank her for coming out to California from Texas. Thanks to Sue Rich for creating and setting up the Performance obstacles. She continues to be a creative genius who constructs unique and challenging set-ups for all levels of exhibitors. Lisa Labendeira was the table mathematician, quickly tabulated results and was a HUGE help in keeping the show moving along at a good pace. Results were sent to the ALSA office promptly. Results are on the ALSA website.
