2017 Blaze Summer Sports Camps


2017 BLAZE SUMMER CAMPS Burnsville High School offers various camps throughout the summer to provide students with the opportunity to participate in different sports. Each camp will be conducted by Burnsville High School coaches and cover a range of skills specific to that sport. All registrations for camps must be submitted and paid for online at isd191.feepay.com. The following descriptions provide information on camp time, date, location, cost and t-shirt availability (not all camps provide t-shirts; t-shirt payment will be made directly to camp coach). Camps begin June 12 and run through Aug 4. If you have any questions regarding summer camps, please contact Jeanine Riggs in the Athletics office at 952-707-2151 or jriggs@isd191.org. Please note that not all camps run throughout the entire summer and there will be no summer camps (except for Strength & Conditioning) July 3-7 due to MSHSL Blackout Week. The only days Strength & Conditioning will not be in session are July 3-4. Unless noted in FeePay, the fee for students on reduced lunch is 50% off camp; fee for students on free lunch is $25.

Boys’ Basketball One-Week Camp Grades K-8

This camp is designed to give a traditional “basketball camp” experience to kids who are young and want to be introduced to the game and its fundamentals. It will devote time to both teaching the fundamentals of the game and also game play. The Burnsville High School coaches will be running the camp.

Boys’ Basketball Clinic Grades 9-12

Boys’ Basketball Clinic Grades 3-8

The Burnsville Boys Basketball Summer Clinics are for boys interested in playing traveling and high school basketball. These are high level clinics intended for boys who are serious about improving their skills and understanding of team concepts. These sessions will be coached by the Burnsville High School coaching staff. Participants are also encouraged to register for the Strength & Conditioning camp; there is a separate fee for the camp. Girls’ Basketball Camp Grades K-5

Run by Burnsville High School coaching staff, these camps will focus on the fundamentals and skill development necessary to become a successful basketball player. Within the camp, players will receive one-on-one instruction as well as group lessons on basketball skills and drills, along with opportunities to put those skills to use in competitive situations. Players will also develop their offensive and defensive strategies and footwork.

Grades 7-12

Cross-Country: Distance Running Grades 4-6 Boys & Girls

This camp will be led by coaches Jeff Webber, Charlie Burnham, and Nate Strand in addition to alumni of the program. Coaches will provide instruction and a training program that will meet the needs of each athlete. Camp is open to all males and females entering grades 4-6 of all ability levels. Please bring running shoes and a water bottle. Camp will take place rain or shine.

Blazette Dance Camp Grades K-2, 3-5 & 6-8

Dance Camp will focus on kick and jazz technique, and dancers will learn a short routine. No prior dance experience required. Dancers should wear dance attire or clothing they can move in (no jeans). They can wear ballet shoes, jazz shoes or tennis shoes (shoes are required, no socks please).

Blaze Football Camp Grades 9-12

Presented by Burnsville High School football coaching staff, this camp is to prepare players for the football season. Coaches will work on speed development and football skills. Camp will take place if it rains; it will only move indoors if lightning is present. Blaze Youth Football Grades 1-8

Presented by Burnsville High School football coaching staff and varsity players, this is a noncontact camp with emphasis on fundamentals, skill development and fun! Wear comfortable clothing, football cleats and bring tennis shoes in case of inclement weather. If there is lightning present, activities will be moved indoors. Football Equipment/Program Support Fee The Blaze Football Equipment and Program Support Fee will be used to provide equipment for all participants and to provide equipment for future use. Fee is for 9th-12th graders. 2017 BLAZE SUMMER CAMPS Participants will have a positive and challenging experience in this program. Students should wear comfortable clothes and tennis shoes and bring a water bottle. The camp is managed by a staff of educators and carefully selected college students who combine to provide a variety of choices and instructional experiences. A high staff-to-camper ratio helps ensure quality participation for each athlete. Grades 1-5: Boys* & Girls

Girls Soccer Prep Camp Grades 7-12

Athletes will warm up, conduct 30 min. of technical and/or tactical work, and scrimmage. Athletes should have cleats, shin guards, water, and properly inflated ball up arrival. Dates: July 25-27 Time: 9-11 a.m. Location: BHS Pates Stadium Cost: $50 Coach: John Soderholm at jsoderholm@isd191.org

Strength & Conditioning Camp The purpose of our Strength & Conditioning program is to develop athletes by increasing strength, flexibility, endurance, and speed through structured workouts, instruction on proper technique & form to maximize athletic performance. The program is designed to focus on the development of the whole body. In no way is this program designed to aid one sport, but instead to develop athletic traits that benefit all sports. This program is designed specifically to meet the needs of our studentathletes of all abilities and skill levels.

Blaze Junior Team Tennis Clinic Grades 5-12: Boys & Girls

Conducted by BHS Head Tennis Coach Ryan Haddorff, the clinic will include drills, games and match play in the USTA Junior Team Tennis format. All ranges of experience welcome, from beginners to varsity team members. Dates: June 12-July 18 Time: 1:30-3:30 p.m., Mondays 1-4 p.m., Tuesdays (14U matches) 1-4 p.m., Thursdays (18U matches) Location: BHS Tennis Courts Cost: $100 (plus a valid USTA membership) Coach: Ryan Haddorff at ryanhaddorff@yahoo.com

Blaze Volleyball Camp Grades 1-4; 5-8; 9-12

Camp curriculum includes skills development training, competitions, and games. Each player will be guaranteed the opportunity for quality repetitions, individualized feedback on skills by our experienced high school staff, and fun! Blaze Wrestling Technique Camp Grades K-6

The most important part of wrestling is proper technique. This camp will teach the fundamentals of drilling the moves you use the most. Drilling is the best way to improve your skills.
