to The Art of Dance Classical Ballet Centre: a unique and private ballet school built on referrals and over 50 years of Miss Alice Baird’s personal teaching and dedication. If you want to get BACK TO BASICS, where the focus is on technique and discipline, working toward graded examinations, then this may be the school for you. The regular school year runs from September – June consisting of 35 weeks which is divided into 5 seven-week terms. Children accepted from 4 years of age. Also offering special programmes: Tots ‘n’ Tu-tu’s for 4 year olds and Drop-in Classes for former advanced level students.
REGISTRATION Early Bird Registration June 1st – June 15th Registration Fee waived when paying by June 15th deadline.

Uniform Fittings & Purchases Thursday August 27th and Friday August 28th By Appointment Orders are to be paid at time of ordering. Acceptable DANCE WEAR payments are DEBIT – CREDIT – CASH For all class uniform requirements Please refer to “Uniform Brochure”
TERM FEES PAYMENT SCHEDULE Fees are payable in advance with no reduction or refund for: a. missed classes b. any student leaving mid-term 1st Term Due upon Registering nd 2 Term Post Dated to October 15th, 2020 3rd Term Post Dated to December 15th, 2020 4th Term Post Dated to February 15th, 2021 5th Term Post Dated to April 15th, 2021 Acceptable TUITION FEE PAYMENTS – 5 post dated cheques A 10% discount will be given to families taking four or more classes per week. If for any reason a student must discontinue, all remaining term cheques will be returned, providing two weeks written notice has been given, prior to the upcoming term.

SCHOOL POLICIES Uniform â€˘ The regulation uniform is mandatory for all classes and examinations. â€˘ Hair to be tied up into bun for all classes
Nail Polish & Jewellery Nail polish and jewellery are NOT allowed to be worn during classes or examinations.
Cold & Flu Season If any student is sick, please be considerate of others and do not attend class.
Snow Days In the event of bad weather PLEASE NOTE: A text message will be sent to all parents when classes are cancelled
Cancelled Classes Classes that have been cancelled for any reason will be made up at a later date.
As a courtesy: Any student absent due to illness may make-up their missed class at a later date in a lower level grade if space permits.
EXAMINATIONS Grades All levels – Pre-Primary – Professional Medal Tests All levels – Pre-Bronze – Premiere Award Graded Examinations and Medal Tests are conducted annually. ALL examinations MUST be taken in sequence. Students are entered at the discretion of the teacher. GRADE & EXAMINATION REQUIREMENTS Pre-Primary and Primary One class per week
Grade One One class per week Terms 1 & 2. Two classes per week Terms 3, 4 & 5
Grades Two and Upward Two classes per week. Medal Test: From Grade Two
Miss Baird studied in Britain and danced the leading role “Odette” in the ballet “Swan Lake”. Miss Baird has appeared on British TV and won trophies, medals and certificates whilst competing at the International Edinburgh Festival over the years. At the age of 16 she choreographed the musical “Rose Marie” for the Glasgow Light Opera Company, while running a successful dancing school. When emigrating to Canada in 1966 Miss Baird opened her school in Scarborough and was also accepted into the Scarborough Ballet Company where she was principal dancer for a number of years. Miss Baird continues to teach at her well established school in Markham. Her pupils have achieved unsurpassable success in examinations set by the Royal Academy of Dancing and the British Association of Teachers of Dancing over the years. Miss Karen has been studying under Miss Baird from when she stepped into her first ballet class. From tying her first set of ribbons to first pair of pointe shoes, Miss Karen has been a proud student with the Art of Dance and is now a proud teacher at the school with several students under her wing. Miss Karen graduated from the University of Waterloo with an Honours Bachelor of Science Degree Kinesiology Pre Health Professional Option with Co-op. In between study terms she would always return to the studio to volunteer and assist with classes. With her studies in injury prevention and classical ballet training Miss Karen completed her B.A.T.D. Associate Teacher Certificate through The Art of Dance in 2015 and has since been an associate teacher and personal assistant to Miss Baird. “At the end of the day I will always be grateful to be able to share my greatest passion with bright young students” Miss Karen Lee BSc b.a.t.d associate
