Tips on How to Successfully Pack When Moving If you’re ever had to move from one house or apartment to another, you know how stressful moving can be. There is a lot to organize, sort, and pack in order to totally move all of your belongings into another residence. Packing is usually one of the most stressful things about a move. Most people don’t realize they have as much stuff as they do until they have to move it into another home. There are steps you can follow, however, that can make the packing and moving experience less stressful for you and your family. One of the most important things to do when you find out you’re going to move is to start collecting boxes.

Get the boxes You’ll need probably hundreds of boxes in order to box all of your possessions up and move them to your new home. If at all possible, start collecting boxes at least one month before you move. Grocery stores and hospitals usually have clean and sturdy empty boxes lying around. Just tell them that you’re moving and trying to collect boxes, and they’ll be sure to give you what they have. If you’re not able to find enough boxes around town, you can always buy boxes. Buying reusable containers can also be a good idea, because you can use them to store items or for future moves. These containers are often stackable when empty, so they can be stored easily as well. There are quite a few other items that you’ll want to purchase to ensure a safe and fast move.

Other Packing needs You’ll want to buy: bubble wrap, wrapping sheets, newspaper print, scissors, sturdy packaging tape, labeling stickers, and pens. The items on this list will help you keep your fragile items from breaking or cracking, and will help you be able to label each box so you know what is in it. Nothing is worse than trying to move into a new house surrounded by myriad unmarked boxes; it only breeds chaos and confusion.

Another thing you can do to prevent confusion is to pack like objects together. For example, it would be a good idea to pack your cookbooks all together in one box. That way, when you go to unpack them, you can just take them out and put them on the shelf and not have to worry about finding cookbooks that are packed in several different boxes. If time and organization permits, you could also consider packing up one room into several boxes, and keeping those boxes together in the moving truck.

Label the boxes Then when you unload this group of boxes, you know what room to place it in. It could also be wise to pack a box labeled “Open First.” This box would include all the items that you use daily, and that you do not want buried in a random box somewhere. Doing this will help promote organization and avoid confusion during your move. If you do not feel up to packing and moving all by yourself, the best moving company in Utah is Redman Van & Storage.
