Concept

HEARTBREAK, PLAYED OUT.

Heartbroken Records is a form of audio therapy for heartbroken women aged between 16 and 30. The website includes playlists that are designed to complement the stage of breakup the user is currently experiencing: anger, bargaining, sadness and acceptance.

A physical cd copy of the playlist can also be ordered in case they want to listen to the songs without using the internet.

Research LOGO RESEARCH

PHOTOGRAPHY RESEARCH

Research for this project included looking into the branding and identity and the the styling of photography. For the logo and identity, I wanted something contemporary but playful, and I was interested in more dynamic logos that included type and simple imagery.

I wanted to balance the humorous concept with sophisticated photography, and so I have researched into styling that uses colour to anchor the image and also create something that is bright and pleasing to the eye.

Research

As it is mainly an online brief, I researched into the usability and design of other websites that included music content and playlists. I also researched into elements such as side scrolling sites which I thought would work well for my website. Elizabeth Tyrer

The Development

I began the brief with a more conventional logo idea, which I developed to be more subtle whilst still including design elements that relate to music and heartbreak. Development of the website included altering the navigation style from a standard one page

scrolling site into a side scrolling site, and website elements such as the playlists were changed to be more streamlined and usable.

The Design

Break up cliches such as binge eating Ben and Jerrys were employed and played upon for the visuals of this project, as it lightens the subject matter whilst still being relatable and appealing to a younger audience. Pastel colours again appeal to a younger female

audience and provide visual interest without fighting the objects being photographed. The logos are subtly playful, with a contemporary sans serif typeface and the use of a strong triangular shape, the symbol for play, alluding to the musical nature of the site.

The Design

The main feature of the project is the website, featuring 4 different playlists for each stage of the break up process. An eclectic mix of songs feature on the playlist to appeal to all music tastes, and a Youtube video window increases interaction with the site. Each of the

pages is accessed by using the side arrows so that the impactful photography is visible at all times, whilst the content on each page can be viewed when scrolling down the page. These features make the site easy to use and navigate whilst still being unique in design.
