Last month brought us our inaugural issue of LMVL SoCal and the response we received from it was overwhelming. We're happy that everyone loved it and look forward to this new journey! This month we see the start of Summer days - the ones where we're grateful not to have to take the chiclets to school, but also wonder how to keep them busy. Thankfully, the SoCal life gives us many options for day trips, staycations and ideas in your own backyard. We invite you to browse through this month's magazine to gather ideas of where to take the dad(s) in your life out to dinner this year, and because the LMVL SoCal team is one of many talents, we even rounded up our favorite breweries that not only offer great over 21 drinks - but are also familyfriendly! An oxymoron? Nope. They really do exist! Summer nights will be the perfect backdrop to enjoy a film outdoors bookmark our page of outdoor movies. If watching movies indoors is more your thing, we also have a guide to Summer blockbusters. Happy Summer! LMVLSOCAL.COM | 03

Last year, Knott's Soak City debuted seven new slides on two new slide towers, as well as a fully remodeled Longboard’s Grill, additional seating areas and new spacious cabanas. If you're looking for a day at an outdoor water park, a visit to Knott's Soak City is a must!!!
WHAT TO PACK This is the ultimate list for the minimalist. Quick tip: strollers, wagons and carry-on sized luggae are allowed. Sun protection: sunscreen, sunglasses, hats A sport-brella (or other outdoor umbrella) if you want to set up your family in a grassy area. Grassy areas are right outside Longboard’s Grill and around Gremmie Lagoon. Water bottles in a small cooler measuring no more than 12″x18′ Reusable Knott’s Berry Farm souvenir cup – there are three refill stations throughout the park. Towels – Knott’s does not have towel service. A waterproof phone case Shoes and sandals are not allowed on rides, but bring them because the ground is hot.
WHERE TO EAT Longboard’s Grill offers standard picnic food with glutenfree options and vegetarian hot dogs! Ask for them at the counter. Pick up your food cafeteria style and head outside to their tables. They’re not bolted down so feel free to move them around to accommodate larger parties. Smaller dining spots include Portside Pizza and Surf Daddy’s Food Hut. Portside Pizza offers delicious pizza and it’s the only spot at Soak City where you can get a funnel cake. Surf Daddy’s Food Hut offers easy grab and go snacks like pretzels, churros and salads. Want a cold treat? You’ll find a create-your-own ICEE station in front of Tidal Wave Pool – right next to one of three refill stations). There’s also Dippin’ Dots and cotton candy carts around the park.
TIPS Gold and Platinum Season Passholders can use their All Season Dining Plans at Knott’s Soak City. Rent an inner tube for $10/day. Inner tube rental is included with cabana rentals as well. He was stationed at Twenty-nine Palms while we were dating. I lived in Orange County and he would drive two hours every weekend to come see me. We went through his first deployment when we were dating too. I wasn’t too worried about him leaving because I knew he was going to be safe. He traveled to Japan, Australia and the Philippines. While he was deployed, our only communication we had was through Skype and emails. I would check my emails throughout the day, ready to respond at any second, and I made sure I was home at a certain time so I was able to to answer his Skype calls in the evenings. I counted the days until he came home (those were the longest seven months). Once we were married, we still weren't able to live together. He was still stationed at Twenty-nine Palms and I was going to culinary school in Orange County, working full time, and taking care of my mom during her chemo therapy. He continued to drive down every weekend to come see me. It was hard not having my husband with me, to be able to see and get support and love through the stress that I was dealt.
deployment, I constantly cried and prayed for his safety and for him to please come back home to me. When the day finally came, I broke down and cried so much. I didn’t want to let go of him. Seeing him walk away and getting into the white bus and knowing I wouldn’t see him for eight months... it hurt so much. I started my countdown for his arrival home. Soon after, I received a phone call from him letting me know that he had arrived safely in Afghanistan. I stayed positive and kept busy during his deployment. I became a full time student and I had a full time job. I wanted the eight months to go by fast as possible. I mailed him care packages every other week and I would stay up to make sure that I didn't miss his calls. I couldn’t fall asleep until I knew he was okay. Then the day finally came when Sonny arrived home. I hired a photographer and I ordered a "Welcome Home" banner. The first kiss was magical and I was elated to have him back in the states. It felt so unreal having him back. Do you have someone in the armed forces coming home? Get a free military banner at BuildaSign.com.

MUST-SEE SUMMER BLOCKBUSTERS DECEMBER 2016
by Belinda Espinoza One of the best places to hang out during the hot Summer days is the movie theatre! We have a list of all the movies you'll want to see while keeping cool.
OCEAN'S ELEVEN, 6/8 In this spinoff of the hit trilogy, Sandra Bullock plays Debbie Ocean (sister to George Clooney’s Danny), who gathers an all-female team for a heist at the famous Met Gala in New York City. Five years, eight months, 12 days and counting is how long Debbie Ocean has been devising the biggest heist of her life. Their target is a necklace that’s worth more than $150 million.
WON'T YOU BE MY NEIGHBOR, 6/8 This documentary takes an intimate look at the life of Mister Fred Rogers, the man behind “Mister Rogers’ Neighborhood”. The film takes us beyond the zip-up cardigans and the land of make-believe, and into the heart of a creative genius who inspired generations of children with compassion and limitless imagination.
JURASSIC WORLD: FALLEN KINGDOM, 6/22
SICARIO 2: DAY OF THE SOLDADO, 6/29 Josh Brolin and Benicio Del Toro return in this sequel that focuses on a federal agent’s efforts to curb drug trafficking at the US-Mexico border.
HOTEL TRANSYLVANIA 3, 7/13 In this third installment of the series, Dracula (Adam Sandler) takes his family on a vacation cruise, where he falls in love with the ship’s captain, even though his daughter Mavis (Selena Gomez) doesn’t like it.
In the latest chapter of the Jurassic Park franchise, Chris Pratt and Bryce Dallas are back to the island to save the dinos from a volcanic eruption.
ANT MAN AND THE WASP, 7/6 This is a post-Infinity War Marvel sequel, in which thief-turned-superhero Scott Lang takes on a partner and struggles to balance his dual life. The urgent mission soon leads to secret revelations from the past as the dynamic duo finds itself in an epic battle against a powerful new enemy.
THE INCREDIBLES, 6/15 The Parr family is back in this sequel that picks up right where it off in the first film and follows Elastigirl’s return to fame, while Bob and the kids try to get used to normal life.
MAMMA MIA: HERE WE GO AGAIN!, 7/20 This is a sequel with the original cast coming back and now includes Cher to the lineup! The 2008 musical comedy was amazing and this sequel is going to cut back and forth from the present to Donna’s romantic past. LMVLSOCAL.COM | 11
LEGOLAND Castle Hotel is now open! by Penny Giakos-Garduno, OnTheGoOC.com From daily entertainment to on-site full service dining... we loved every moment of our first visit. Each of the 250 premium LEGO Castle themed rooms (your choice of Knights & Dragons, Royal Princess or Magic Wizard) is magically themed and unique. Each room also features a separate kids' area with LEGO building tables and a scavenger hunt! Once the scavenger hunt is complete you can unlock the magical code for a surprise inside your personal treasure box. The new hotel also boasts a new themed restaurant - Dragon’s Den Restaurant & Bar. You don't have to stay at the Castle Hotel to dine here, but if you do... breakfast is free! There is also a full bar, so take in the accommodations, relax and let the kids play!
The Enhanced Pool Area features a zero entry pool with interactive water play and whirlpool spa. The pool is heated yearround to 84°. There is a height requirement of 48" to not wear a life vest - whether or not your child knows how to swim. The entertainment courtyard has play zones for kids of all ages including a DUPLO tot spot and slides! Oh, and don't miss the outdoor stage and cinema with seating and lawn area. TIP: Some of the rooms have this view of the Movie Screen in the Royal Courtyard! LEGOLAND went the extra mile with all the playful surprises- From talking portraits to musical seats, there is fun around every corner! Don't leave anything untouched and knock on everything that looks like it's waiting for a knock!
I would totally suggest looking into two nights if you are visiting LEGOLAND California during your stay. If you want to just enjoy everything LEGO and resort-style fun, then I think a local can do a night stay and soak up all the offerings of the Hotel itself. We cannot wait to return and explore more. We didn't find all the bad knights (my kids were on a mission) so it's the perfect excuse to book our return trip. TIP: If there is an issue with elevators or heights, call when booking to advise that you may need a ground floor for sensory ease. But be sure to check out the elevators for fun surprises.

SPICY MEXICAN HOT DOGS by Pattie Cordova LivingMiVidaLoca.com One of the things I’ve loved most about our summer has been our never-ending summer backyard BBQ’s. It seems like every week we’re hosting our family for pool days followed by fun and easy barbecues. Because we usually have at least ten people over, we like to make foods that are easy to prepare, budget-friendly and, of course, touch on our cultura on some level. We created the best recipe for such an occasion – spicy Mexican hot dogs. INGREDIENTS
Hot dogs Hot dog buns Cooked chorizo Refried beans Diced tomatoes Diced onion Diced jalapeños DIRECTIONS
1. Pre-heat the grill. Slice each hot dog down the middle and fill with chorizo. Add to the grill. 2. While the hot dogs are cooking, spread some refried beans on the hot dog buns. 3. Hot dogs are done when hot dogs butterfly. Remove from grill and place in hot dog bun. 4. Top with tomato, onion and jalapeños. Optional: slightly drip Mexican crema over the hot dogs. If you have trouble adding the chorizo, butterly the hot dogs and grill them first. Then add chorizo after the hot dogs have been grilled. LMVLSOCAL.COM | 16

WHAT YOU MAY NOT KNOW ABOUT COFFEE We spoke to Dr. Dito at Kaiser Permanente Orange County about coffee - our drink of choice. This is what she told us: 1. Coffee can increase anxiety and people with irregular heartbeats should cut caffeine intake. 2. Caffeine will stimulate the bladder and make you go more.
3. People with frequent headaches should remove caffeine from diet. Caffeine is one of the main ingredients in Excedrin Migraine, but if you have it every day it can cause headaches. This is if you’re having headaches four to six times a week, including migraines.
717 Dunn Way Placentia
4. Women who drink a lot of coffee (even decaf), may experience breast pain. Many times this effect goes away after menopause.
5. Drinking your coffee black can have health benefits, like anti-aging. 6. People who drink four cups of black coffee a day have a lower diabetes risk.
Golden Road Brewing 2210 E Orangewood Ave Anaheim
7. Coffee can help with asthma (though Dr. Dito does not recommend it). Certain people who have wheezing find that it’s better after drinking coffee. Caffeine is a “bronco dilator,” it opens up the airways. So then you can breathe better. This might also be why you would workout better after coffee.

NOW PLAYING: SOLO: A STAR WARS STORY
Amazon Prime * Fantastic Mr. Fox * Daddy’s Daycare * Click * Daddy’s Home * Mrs. Doubtfire
By Alex Cordova
Solo: A Star Wars Story is Disney’s latest edition to the Star Wars universe. Although we can’t pinpoint exactly when the story takes place, we do know it is sometime between Episode III (Revenge of the Sith) and episode IV (A New Hope). The movie follows Star Wars originals Han Solo, Chewbacca, and Lando Calrissian while introducing us to new exciting characters and dropping a bombshell on us the size of the Death Star at the end of the movie (don’t worry, no spoilers here). I loved the movie because it offered a new perspective on the scruffy looking nerfherder and his misfit crew. The movie plays out as a perfect origin story for Han as we have many lingering questions from the original trilogy answered and we see the development of Solo’s character. There is plenty of nostalgia for this self-admitted Star Wars nerd while keeping the story fresh for kids... and yes, some adults just being introduced into the franchise. The action is a little light in Solo, but it makes up for it in story telling and plenty of laughs throughout the 2.25 hour run time. Whether you are a StarWars fan or not this is definitely a movie that the whole family can enjoy together and offers a good alternative to more intense and not kid-friendly blockbusters, such as Deadpool 2.

VISITING OUE SKYSPACE LOS ANGELES by Belinda Espinoza
Whether you’re a tourists or a local, if you are seeking a thrill ride you must head to downtown Los Angeles to try out the OUE Skyslide ride located at the US Bank tower on the 70th floor. The Skyslide is a glass slide that is 45 feet long and is a one story attraction that is placed outside the skyscraper. You'll need to get a ride ticket (currently $8) to enjoy a view of Los Angeles under you through the seethrough slide. It is the highlight of the Skyspace Los Angeles experience. The entire Skyspace Experience starts on the 54th floor and includes a space where you can view what Los Angeles looks like through an exhibit that showcases the LA skyline through a time-lapse video. In this same area, you can look down an optical illusion shaft that gives you the illusion of looking down 54 floors. It’s quite scary to stand on top of, it but great for pictures. After you view the 54th floor, you are then taken to the 70th floor to check out the Los Angeles skyline in a 360 degree deck. The exhibit tends to be more popular in the evenings because you can see Los Angeles lit up. This is definitely one of those experiences you'll want to do at least once in your life.
