Kids are naturals at creativity and imagination. There’s really nothing parents need to do except stand-by and engage their kids with questions and pretend play — even narrating their endeavors lets kids know you’re paying attention. Pretend City in Irvine almost sounds like a theme park, but it’s more of an interactive play space where kids can engage in pretending with real world props and places. Want to pretend you’re a farmer? Visit The Farm and see the real baby chicks! Want to be a pretend chef or restaurant server? Go to the rotating restaurant space and see what’s on the menu! I’ve visited children’s museums in other cities, but this is the only one with so many play opportunities in Orange County. Think of Pretend City as a mini-representation of Orange County with each of 17 interactive exhibits (parts of a city) lending itself to play. After visiting, my favorite exhibits are:
CAFE It’s like the ultimate play kitchen! The cafe changes ownership quite frequently to express diversity. On my visit, the Mexico Consulate sponsored the cafe. Get ready to sit at the counter and have your child take your order and serve you. Play along and be a good customer — you might be here a while. Some days we never even got past this point.
GROCERY STORE Oooh! And the cash registers. But for some reason, kids always gravitated towards ringing the bells and the little carts. You can even dress as a crew member here.
FARM Plant pretend gardens and talk about what we eat that comes from the farm. We’ve had the great pleasure of watching eggs hatch here. The chicks are soooo cute!
CONSTRUCTION Build, build, build. And when one child starts building others will come to help!
MARINA Ahhh! Playing with water, floating boats and foam blocks, fishing. They even have slickers and foul weather boots to dress the part! My kids would spend hours here.

Make your own donut at Poqet Donuts, Irvine
by Sharon Garofalow, CupcakesAndCutlery.com I’ve never met a donut that I didn’t like. My sweet tooth is next level but given my love for dessert-like items, and my proclivity for making things even more fattening, you’d think that I’d go straight for the most ridiculous gourmet donut a shop has to offer. But I’ve got to say, the perfect, sweet/salty treat always wins my heart. Poqet Donuts (pronounced pocket) has been open for less than a year. We’ve been a few times and I like to try something new each time. There are other gourmet donut spots in Orange County but Poqet has something the others donut…(get it, do not? HA!). You can design your own donut creation! It’s such a fun idea. My kids had a blast trying this out on one of our past visits.
You start with a plain donut and then choose what filling, glaze and toppings you want to add. While the toppings are not as varied as the sugar fiend in my soul would like, there are plenty of fun options to make your own gourmet donut concoction. And now they’ve upped the ante by adding an ice cream option! I have not tried this yet, but rest assured this will go down soon. Because, salted caramel chip. Every season, Poqet comes out with new seasonal flavors. I tested out Blackberry Sorbet, Apple Pie, Carrot Cake and the White Coconut Macadamia. SO GOOD! The Blackberry Sorbet was a little bit on the lighter side whereas the apple pie was heavier – it basically has pie topping on it! I naturally wouldn’t have gravitated towards the Coconut Macadamia donut but LOVED it.
The macadamia nut gave it such a good crunch. I’m glad I took that suggestion. And the frosting on the carrot cake donut was rich and flavorful and full of delicious carrot cake spices.T hey also have some mini sizes, which are great if you want to try out a few different flavors. Check out their website to see what else they have to offer! And then go try one in person. You’ll be glad you did! PLUS they also do letter donuts in case you need them. Just think how crazy excited your kids would be if you brought out donuts to spell their name on their birthday! Poqet Donuts 17655 Harvard Ave. , Suite B Irvine, CA 92614

WHERE TO SEE PLANES LANDING AT LAX By Alma Pedroza We found out a few years ago about this great park where you can see planes landing at LAX. The park is right next to the landing strip making it a picture perfect location. The park is separated by a wire fence… and if you’re wondering which spot to go to, we prefer the right side. The large planes fly right over you! On the left side, the kids love to run around the open space. Another great thing about this park is the In-N-Out across the street. I usually park at In-N-Out parking lot since there are not many spots in the street. I’ll grab some fries and shakes for kids, then head across the street. Nothing better than great burgers and fries while kids run around. In-N-Out and watching planes landing at LAX, two Southern California treats in one location. The park doesn’t have an exact address but it’s in the corner of Sepulveda and 92nd St. in Los Angeles. The planes fly over every 15 minutes so there is always a new plane to look at. It is definitely worth a visit on your next LAX pickup or a fun family lunch.

By Stephanie Powers
This epic finale has been building since we were introduced to Iron Man in 2008, and it delivers in action, laughs, drama, and cliff hangers! The movie starts with the boarding of Thanos and his crew onto the escape spaceship from Asgard, and from there it becomes the Mad Titans pursuit of the Infinity Stones. The Avengers are still broken up from the movie Civil War, however these dark times start to forge a bond between the different heroes because of the sanctity of the universe. The movie is really a two-front war between the different heroes, Thanos, and the Black Order having no mercy going after the Infinity Stones. Without revealing any real spoilers, this movie is a classic Marvel blockbuster - a start to finish epic cliffhanger! The story goes back and forth from space to earth, from character development to battle, and keeps you cheering and cowering. Enjoy a phenomenal family-friendly film with some extra snacks as it is over two and a half hours long. Also, don't miss the cut scene after the credits! It'll have you on pins and needles until the conclusion of the Avengers saga (coming May 2019).

WHAT TO EXPECT: SPLITSVILLE LUXURY LANES AT DOWNTOWN DISNEY DISTRICT by Melodi Steinberg FamilyReviewGuide.com
The Downtown Disney District is undergoing some very exciting changes in 2018!  It gained an awesome new family friendly venue, Splitsville, a luxury bowling lane/restaurant and bar. This new entertainment concept boasts 20 bowling lanes interspersed throughout the location, four dining areas (indoors and out), more than 25 flat screen TVs, and the ability to host both live performers and DJs. The building fuses both modern and retro chic elements with lots of white, brick and bright neon colors. There is a really nice outside patio with a cozy fireplace where you can relax and watch live music. Speaking of friendly, the servers are so good with kids! I like that even though this is an upscale bowling alley, it is still kid friendly, makes a perfect location for a date night, and also offers a place to sit and unwind. Disney Splitsville is a welcomed place to unwind and socialize for some fun-filled competition.
5 TIPS FOR A GREAT VISIT: #1. Order a 22oz cocktail in a souvenir squeeze bottle for $22. Refills are $15. #2. You do not need to bowl to dine at Splitsville. Dining and bowling are booked separately, so you can pre-book your lanes or just stop by for a delicious meal. #3. There are two Coca-Cola Freestyle machines on the property with 100+ flavors and free refills all day. Cost is $5.75 #4. Kids can order an ICEE with blue raspberry, coke or cherry flavors. #5. Bring Socks. However, if you forget you can buy socks for $7.54 (includes tax) onsite. Splitsville Luxury Lanes 1530 S. Disneyland Drive (2.96 mi) Anaheim, California 92802 LMVLSOCAL.COM | 22

VISITING FLOWER FIELDS CARLSBAD RANCH by Mary K Tran LetsPlayOC.com One of my favorite things to do in the Spring is visit The Flower Fields at Carlsbad Ranch. It blooms for six to eight weeks out of the year (March to May), with a great view of the Pacific Ocean. This seasonal and popular attraction is family-friendly, handicappedfriendly, and great for couples and groups of friends too. Thinking of visiting soon? Here are a few tips: Take the antique tractor ride to scope out the area. The area is huge! There are little cut-outs in the fields where you can stand for photos, just be careful to stay out of the fields. The hardest part will be deciding which color flowers you want behind you... try them all! The tractor stops half-way so we can walk down to explore the area, and it also picks up passengers. The open wagon ride is handicapped accessible, and it includes an audio commentary which helps to understand the history. It takes guests along side of the American Flag of Flowers, but it doesn’t stop. You'll want to walk to the area to get a closer look and photograph. If you're visiting with kids, make sure to visit the Artist Gardens. Kids receive scavenger hunt cards at the entrance to use to collect stamps. If they get them all, they get a discount for the mining activity.
The Sweat Pea Maze is a fun activity too. Fun Fact: The children’s play zone, Santa’s Playground, includes whimsical playhouses and gigantic mushrooms that were once used at Santa’s Village in Lake Arrowhead. Lastly, bring hats for shade, wear sunblock, and bring water to stay hydrated. Also, be prepared to walk on dirt roads. I enjoyed my last visit, and will try to visit again every year.
