The Strangers: Prey At Night

Life Of The Party

Marlo is a mother of three, including a newborn baby, who’s struggling to look after everything by herself. But then, her brother hires a night nanny named ‘Tully’ for her. At first, Marlo finds having a nanny a bit of an extravagance, and struggles to get used to the idea. But over time, she begins to form a unique bond with Tully, who is thoughtful, constantly surprising and sometimes rather challenging. Charlize Theron stars alongside Mackenzie Davis in ‘Tully’, a hilarious and heartwarming comedy about motherhood.

The Strangers: Prey At Night’ sees Cindy and her family go on what was supposed to be an ordinary holiday… until a trio of masked psychopaths arrive and terrorise them. Cindy has no idea what’s happening or why they’re here – she only knows that they want her and her family dead. They can run, they can hide, or they can fight for their lives in a desperate bid to escape this living hell. Christina Hendricks stars in ‘The Strangers: Prey At Night’, the long-awaited sequel to the smash hit original.

When Deanna’s husband suddenly dumps her, she decides to abandon her old life as a housewife, go back to university, and reinvent herself as the ‘Life Of The Party’. Unfortunately, she’s ended up in the same class as her daughter, who’s not exactly sold on the idea. Nonetheless, Deanna throws herself headlong into the campus experience, and ends up re-discovering her true self in the process. Melissa McCarthy is the ‘Life Of The Party’ in this hysterical, madcap comedy that sees her reunite with Ben Falcone, director of ‘Tammy’ and ‘The Boss.

The Outsider

by Stephen King Released 22nd May When an eleven-year-old boy is found murdered in a town park, reliable eyewitnesses undeniably point to the town’s popular Little League coach, Terry Maitland, as the culprit. DNA evidence and fingerprints confirm the crime was committed by this well-loved family man. Horrified by the brutal killing, Detective Ralph Anderson, whose own son was once coached by Maitland, orders the suspect to be arrested in a public spectacle. But Maitland has an alibi. And further research confirms he was indeed out of town that day. As Anderson and the District Attorney trace the clues, the investigation expands from Ohio to Texas. And as horrifying answers begin to emerge, so King’s propulsive story of almost unbearable suspense kicks into high gear. Terry Maitland seems like a nice guy but there is one rock-hard fact, as unassailable as gravity: a man cannot be in two places at the same time. Can he?

Impossible. But to Kate’s surprise, she turns out to be pretty good at the hosting gig. Then the podcast gets in a call from an anonymous guy, asking for advice about his unnamed crush. Kate is pretty sure that the caller is gorgeous Diego Martinez, and even surer that the girl in question is Alana. Kate is excited for her friend ... until Kate herself starts to develop feelings for Diego. mix of weather we’ve had which makes it so hard deciding what to wear! Layering has certainly been key recently but I am confident that we can start to pack away the heavier items and look forward to a lighter season ahead. If your wardrobe is in need of an update there are a few key trends worth investing in. Womenswear sees a move to pastel tones– lilac, lemon, pink and blue in the prettiest shades which are perfect for cotton basics and lightweight knitwear. Of course, summer wouldn’t be summer without gorgeous floral prints and there are some lovely dresses around which won’t disappoint. Checks also remain a strong feature for Spring/ Summer 18 and give a smart look to blazers and, often much needed, outerwear. Menswear gets given the striped treatment whether in the shape of a simple breton tshirt or head to toe stripes in a summer suit for smart tailoring whatever the occasion. Check out your local independent stores for something a little different coupled with a great, personalised service. As well as getting my retail therapy fix I will be checking out the new Sambuca restaurant which has recently opened in Cramlington to rave reviews. Try not to tell the world absolutely everything about your life, as it will come back and bite you on the arse!

Photography | Amanda Jackson for Happiful Magazine

e s i n e D r a e D

rom her time on Loose Women, to her memorable appearance on Celebrity Big Brother, star of stage and screen Denise Welch has never shied away from talking candidly about her life, experiences and, most notably, her mental health. To mark her 60th birthday, Denise pens an open letter to her 16-year-old self, reflecting on a very colourful life

Over the years, Denise Welch has gone through extremely difficult periods, from the postnatal depression that consumed her following the birth of her first-born, and frontman of the indie band The 1975, Matty Healy, to alcoholism as she attempted to self-medicate to deal with what she calls her “unwelcome visitor” – depression. But with the lows have also been some truly wonderful highs, and her life has been full of joy, and learning, and love, too. As she discussed in an interview with Happiful, a magazine devoted to mental health, last year, she is in a positive place now, having come through the darkness, and has grown so much from what she’s been through. Her two children are her greatest joy in life, and she couldn’t be more proud of them. In 2013, she married British artist Lincoln Townley, who encouraged Denise to face her demons and take steps in her recovery to become sober, together. Over the years, she’s been an incredible advocate for mental health, leading the charge in the mission to break down stigmas and encourage people to join the conversation. As she approaches her milestone 60th birthday, Denise writes a letter to her 16-year-old self, reflecting on how far she has come, everything she’s been through, and above all, words of wisdom to get through those moments where it feels like the world is against you. Through the tough times, and the good, one thing is for sure – our Denise has certainly made her time memorable. 16| Living Local

I want to start by saying that your life will never be boring! You will maybe experience more lows than many people, but you will certainly enjoy more highs. Never take the love of your family for granted. You are blessed with amazing parents and when you are older you’ll realise just how lucky you are. As for your sister, she will always be your best friend. There are times when you won’t think so, as she is the only one to be brutally honest with you. But you’ll learn she has your best interests at heart. Follow your dreams to be an actress. Don’t listen to the naysayers. You will love what you do and will earn a good living, but you won’t be defined by your career. Your love life will be colourful! You will learn from your first marriage exactly what you don’t want (I’d love to tell you not to marry him, but you’re very headstrong!). A good man will be the father to your children, but recognise when the marriage is over and walk away. Love changes, and you will remain good friends. I wish I could prevent the depression that will descend after childbirth. But you must realise that this is an illness like any other. Be as kind to yourself as possible. Take time off work – they’ll survive without you. Don’t self-medicate. It will take you down a very long, dark road and it’ll be very hard to find your way home. Try not to worry about ageing. It’s a pointless waste of time and energy. Feel thankful to be a survivor! Don’t fear the work you love drying up. You’ve always been a character actor and your roles will only get better. Don’t worry about not finding love again. There will be life left in the “old dog”! You will find the greatest love of all in your 50s. You probably think that’s a bit gross at 16, but believe me, it’s a love like no other. And he’ll be a young’un! Together you will be strong and defeat your demons as one. Your children will be your greatest joy and will work hard to save up for “Shady Pines” in Beverly Hills! If you get the chance to do a daily talk show, try to self-edit a bit. Try not to tell the world absolutely everything about your life, as it will come back and bite you on the arse! Above all, everyone has their cross to bear. Your’s will be living with mental illness. But you will be determined to help others who are struggling, and this in turn will be a huge comfort to you. Your “unwelcome visitor” will continue to make uninvited calls, but he will always leave and your life in between will be happy, fulfilling, rewarding and most of all, full of love. You’re a tough cookie, and I’m proud of who you are now and who you will become. I love you,

Technology Revolution with Trevor Gyllenspetz

The thought of living without our technology will send shivers of desperation running through our veins more than ever before. We tend to lay blame at the feet of the younger generation for driving the techno revolution, however, we now all take instant communication and the convenience this brings so much for granted. Do you remember when you stated your telephone number when answering an incoming call? Now we have individual ringtones, see a picture of the caller and greet the caller by name, not to mention where we are able to accept and make calls. To ensure Keel Row offered an up to date service to our valued regular customers we introduced free Wi-Fi in 2016. We’ve seen a dramatic increase in the popularity of its use during the last 2 years. Moving home is without doubt a stressful experience and living with no broadband is almost unimaginable, however help is on hand! We have 2 options within Keel Row, O2 and EE. Both shops have experts in mobile communication, easy to chat to, full of useful ideas and a comprehensive range of products to satisfy all requirements, saving the need to travel to busy city centres. O2 have the Huawei Pocket Hotspot; this little box of magic connects up to 10 devices wirelessly to broadband, these offer a great short or long term fix for Wi-Fi and are really handy and can be used for caravans, in vehicles and of course the home. Available on pay as you go tariffs or flexible contracts, pop into the store to find out more. EE have a couple of easy to live with options and no landline required! EE Mobile Broadband, again connecting up to 10 devices or alternatively a home router both connect wirelessly to Wi-Fi. Ideal if you now don’t have a home landline telephone. Keel Row are delighted to have 2 of the market leaders in the Mobile Technology within the shopping centre, both shops have specialists on hand to help ensure we give great service and the right package to suit your individual requirements, either pay as you go or monthly contracts.

Top tips for house buyers

t's one of the biggest challenges facing the British population today: how do you secure that first foothold on the property ladder?

Thanks to ever-increasing house prices, and difficult-to-obtain credit, there's never been a more difficult time to buy your first home. But newcomers aren't the only ones facing problems, as the uneven nature of a bubble-based house economy ensures that many people also find it incredibly hard to move up the scale once they have that elusive initial address. Irrespective of your situation, here are our top tips for overcoming the hurdle. Work out a deposit calendar This is vital if you want to keep on track with your savings towards moneydown, and for those who don't really do maths, or in-depth plans, websites like Martin Lewis's Money Saving Expert can help you work out exactly how much you need to put away to get any size of mortgage, and for how long, or when you will be ready to buy based on the current rate of saving.

There's no end to the difference a good credit score makes in terms of securing that mortgage. Even if you already own a home and have kept up with all repayments mistakes can be made elsewhere that may cost you dearly. Use Experian, Equifax or Callcredit to get a genuine insight into how credit-worthy you are, and make changes to improve on that if necessary. Low scores can be increased by ensuring there are no active accounts registered to old addresses, and even taking out additional credit so long as you keep on top of the required repayments. Call us on: 0754 108 7275 Email us: C J Plumbing & Heating offer a range of plumbing & heating services covering Newcastle, North Tyneside, Gateshead & Northumberland.

Be clear on the real costs involved It's no use starting to eye-up properties if you don't really understand the grand total of what you will have to pay. Mortgage arrangement fees can typically be £1,000, and are often non-refundable, even though there's no guarantee that the sale will go through at the point of actually handing over the charge. Legal fees, stamp duty (applicable to any home worth over £125,000), surveyors costs and valuation fees all add on even more, and this is before we come to removal men, repairs around the home and filling it with furniture. Understand how long the process will take There's no standard length of time it takes to purchase a house. This is really dependent on a huge number of variables, including solicitor processing speed, the chain at both ends (i.e. whether the buyer has a house to sell before they can move, or if the seller has a new home to go to), and - in the worst cases - issues with surveys, credit streams and maintenance. In any case, though, expect the process to last a minimum of five months from search to moving date, but realistically that's a particularly speedy estimate. Know your credit score, and how to improve it

Rafa Benítez Win! opens contract talks with Golfing Treat Newcastle

for 4

We’ve teamed up with Blyth Golf Club to offer a lucky reader a 4 ball playing at one of the most mature, challenging and interesting courses in Northumberland. Situated on the outskirts of the friendly seaport of Blyth, the 18 hole tree lined parkland course with scenic water features, boasts some of the finest greens in Northumberland. Developed on land where once stood a pit head and it’s entire mining community, Blyth has matured and developed into a tree-lined par 72, parkland course - but don’t be fooled by its gently undulating character. Its first six holes are a test for any golfer. Negotiate them without dropping too many shots and you could be set up for a good score. But beware - there are some cunning water hazards at 9,12,13 and 14 that demand a strong nerve and a sure stroke. They don’t call the 13th hole ‘Sinkers’ for nothing! Following Graden work in August 2016, the greens are in great condition.

afa Benítez contract talks with Newcastle United are now well underway through his representatives and although he retains concerns about the club’s ambitions and direction, he is is hoping for a speedy resolution that would be “good for everybody”. Lee Charnley, Newcastle’s managing director, held talks with associates of Benitez prior to the team’s 1-0 defeat at Everton and another round of negotiations are set to follow. Benitez has a year remaining on his present contract and Newcastle are pushing for him to sign a long-term extension. While the club remains on the market, the Spaniard, who has led his players to mid-table on their return to the Premier League, is viewed as their stellar asset. The lingering prospect of a takeover is a complicating factor, except that Amanda Staveley and all other prospective bidders for Newcastle regard Benitez’s continuing presence as a condition of purchase. He is also seen as a guarantee of Premier League safety by Mike Ashley, the owner. After three frustrating transfer windows in succession, Benitez is seeking assurances that his vision for Newcastle would be acted upon should Ashley stay. A transfer budget is part of it, but the 58-year-old also wants improvements in the way the club do their business. Newcastle are seeking a continuation of the expensive release clause which would presently cost a rival club £6 million to prise Benitez from his contract. “We have had conversations and we’ll have conversations next week,” Benitez said ahead of Newcastle’s home match against West Bromwich Albion. “My representatives have talked with Lee Charnley.” The discussions have centred on Benitez’s future and a five-year plan for Newcastle’s development. “About everything,” Benitez said. “About everything, but that is part of the conversation next week. I’m tellIing you now because obviously a lot of people want to know. I will not talk too much about that because we will have another meeting and we’ll see how it’s going.” Does he want his position to be sorted out quickly? “Yes, I think this would be good for everybody,” he said.

Summer camp

Lots still to play for

t has been a landmark season for Newcastle Falcons, who bring their Aviva Premiership regular season to a climax on Saturday May 5 at home to Wasps. The Kingston Park club are hoping that the 4pm kick-off will provide their second 10,000 sell-out crowd of the season, having attracted a full house for the first time in nine years back in October when Leicester Tigers visited the North East. The Falcons’ average Premiership home crowds over the course of the Premiership season have shown a remarkable rise of 42.5% on last season’s mark of 7,050, and an even greater jump of 96.8% on four years ago, when the season’s home average was 5,135. The Falcons have the huge incentive of a Premiership semi-final still to play for, not to mention the prospect of European Champions Rugby for the first time since 2005. This comes on the back of another season of steady improvement, improving on last season’s 15-year high league position of eighth. The club’s Premiership form has also been on show in both cup competitions, Newcastle

reaching the semi-final stage in both the European Challenge Cup and Anglo-Welsh Cup. On both occasions the Falcons were to miss out on a place in the final, but firm foundations are already in place for next season. Retaining the core of their current squad with new deals for the likes of England squad flanker Gary Graham, Tonga scrum-half Sonatane Takulua, Fijian flyer Vereniki Goneva and Samoan stepper Sinoti Sinoti, the club have also begun to announce a number of exciting new signings. Leicester Tigers prop Logovi’i Mulipola tops the list, the hugely physical specimen heading north after six and a half seasons in which he has become a cult hero in the East Midlands. Fellow Leicester front-rower George McGuigan returns to his home club after two years at Welford Road, while experienced winger Tom Arscott and Scotland Under-20s flanker Guy Graham have also signed up for next season. Off the field, the Falcons will hold their end-ofseason awards dinner, the Big Bash, on Tuesday May 8, while a busy summer sees the regular Wednesday night touch rugby league starting again, as well as the ever-popular kids’ coaching camps.

Kingston Park camps run from 10am to 3pm, with a breakfast club from 8am for those requiring an early drop-off. Coaching is delivered by RFU-qualified and DBScleared coaches, with participants receiving a camp T-shirt among many other great benefits Summer camp dates at Kingston Park are: 23rd July – 27th July, Kingston Park Stadium, 6-11 years, £85.00 (£110 with breakfast club) 30th July – 3rd August, Kingston Park Stadium, 12-16 years, £85.00 (£110 with breakfast club) 7th August, Kingston Park Stadium, 7-14 years, £25.00 (£30 with breakfast club) 22nd August, Kingston Park Stadium, Skills camp, 7-14 years, £25.00 (£30 with breakfast club) 28th – 30th August, Kingston Park, Game & Skills camp, 6-12 years, £55 (£70 with breakfast club) 30th August, Kingston Park, Position specific skills, 12-16 years, £25 (£30 with breakfast club) 31st August, Kingston Park Stadium, Kicking camp, 12-16 years, £25.00 (£30 with breakfast club) For more information on coaching camps please email, call 0191 214 2803 or visit

hen summer finally arrives, Brits are fond of swerving the traditional dinner table vibe and heading outside to eat, determined to enjoy the blast of sunshine we are blessed with that day, however brief it may be. Picnics, barbeques, garden parties - we’ve tried and failed at them all, but always with our heads held high and spirits firmly lifted. But why do we love it so much? From beating wasps away with paper plates, to perching on the end of damp benches and holding blankets down with cool boxes and (if you’re lucky) a folding chair - you’d think we’d have thrown in the towel on alfresco dining years ago and retreated back into the comfort of our homes... But we take it all in our stride - even if that means sharing the fruit salad with flies and a few sandy sandwiches here and there - and you can often hear the satisfied words “this is the life...” being uttered from relaxed family members. Because it’s what being British in summer is all about - talking in the fresh air lifts the mood, the sunshine makes us happy and is there anything better than leisurely eating and drinking the afternoon away with our loved ones? And, as it turns out, we’ve got pretty good at it over the years too, learning from the mishaps of the summers gone by, and while there is always going to be a few occasions when the wind makes it near on impossible to even unpack the butties, Brits have turned soggy sarnies and cheese sticks into impressive alfresco banquets! So, if you are wondering how to throw a wow barbeque or stun with a picnic, we’ve got some simple tips to make it extra special this summer.

These portable barbeques are chic and compact, we could almost fit them into our weekend shopper!

Throwing the greatest barbeque

Take out!

£10 Sainsbury’s

If there is a weekend of sunshine on the cards, you can guarantee that gardens across the UK will come alive with people, the smell of barbeques will waft across every street and a bread bun shortage will plague the supermarkets. There may not always be time to prepare yourself for a big party but that’s not to say you have to miss out!

Plan: Send out invites via a message

on your mobile phone to receive instant replies and once you have your guest list, start planning the food. Stock the fridge with drink and be sure to include nonalcoholic options. Oh, and stock pile your bread buns...

£29.50 Marks & Spencers

Of course, you are going to want to serve up traditional bangers and burgers at your party but why not add a little variety to your selection with something a bit different, like king prawn kebabs, barbequed white fish tacos or pulled pork.

The sides and salads are where you can really impress your guests. If you don’t have time to make them all yourself, supermarkets now have a huge variety of packaged snacks and delicious prepared salads that will do the trick - and who will ever know!

The look:

Make your garden look the part with decorative accessories and bring out enough chairs for most people to sit down. If you don’t have the room outside, you can always lay your table up inside for people to get a plate of food before they return outdoors.

A barbeque has the habit of lasting all day and night - you can be sure your guests will want a second-sitting and there are always a few latecomers who pop over once they know the party is in full swing. Make sure you have enough food leftover or tucked away for those that do! 26| Living Local

Mercedes-AMG E 53 revealed to replace E 43 T

his is the Mercedes-AMG E 53 4MATIC+, which replaces the old E 43 in the line-up as a rapid understudy to the full-blown E 63 and E 63 S models.

Available as a saloon and an estate, the E 53 gets AMG's take on Mercedes' latest straight-six petrol engine. The 3.0-litre unit uses 48-volt technology to deliver what Merc calls EQ Boost - in effect, a starter-alternator that sits between the engine and the gearbox. The combustion engine produces 429bhp and 520Nm on its own - but the EQ Boost system then adds a further 22bhp and up to 250Nm when required. By contrast, the E 43's six-cylinder powertrain, with no electrical assistance, produced a total of 396bhp. Both versions of the E 53 have identical performance figures: 0-62mph in 4.5 seconds (a tenth of a second faster than the old E 43), and an artificially limited top speed of 155mph. Despite the additional power, Merc says the E 53 will return 32.5mpg on the official combined fuel consumption cycle, and emit 200g/km of CO2; that should put it in the same tax band as the model it replaces. The new model is available with 4MATIC+ four-wheel drive and a ninespeed automatic transmission only. The gearbox has been retuned by AMG for faster shifts and features the ability to double-declutch and perform multiple downshifts, for greater driver involvement. Merc has confirmed a UK spec for the car; both the E53 saloon and estate will get 19-inch alloy wheels as standard, plus an AMG performance exhaust and AMG Ride Control suspension (in effect, a retuned air suspension set-up). COMAND infotainment with a 12.3-inch display also features, as does an additional 12.3-inch digital instrument panel and black Nappa leather seats with red contrast stitching. Both versions are available to order now, with first deliveries due in July. The E 53 saloon will cost from £61,835, a rise of about £3,500 over the E 43, while the E 53 Estate’s prices will start from £63,835. 28| Living Local
