(former National School for Girls) Open Afternoon Winslow Girlguiding Our hall, a former girls school, was built as a National School for the poor of Winslow and used from 1865 until 1901, when a new Winslow National School was built on Sheep Street. It has been owned by Girlguiding since 1958. The hall has many original features. There will also be a display of Girlguiding in Winslow over the last 60 years. Refreshments will be on sale including homemade cakes, scones, teas and coffees. All proceeds will go to the hall’s refurbishment fund. 39 Keach's Meeting House Winslow Open Afternoon Winslow History Project Winslow has a strong Nonconformist tradition, and the Baptists were very influential for much of the 18th century. Visitors can see inside this small Baptist chapel, built in 1695 with open-backed benches, box pews, a gallery, pulpit, communion table and memorial tablets. Information will be available about the building, the life of Benjamin Keach (a Baptist preacher in the 1660s, put in the pillory for his writings) and the history of the Baptists in Winslow, including some early Baptist women. 40 Winslow History Walks Winslow History Project A stroll around the centre of Winslow looking at the outside of some of the historic buildings erected between the 15th and 19th centuries and hearing about the people who lived in them. Some of the sites have People Power connections. The walk will last about an hour and will always be within 100 yards of Winslow Market Square.
