Passengers boarded the bus through the rear open platform entrance and the conductor came to collect fares. As I went to school more than four miles from home, I had a free pass.

Among those I saw there was The Lady is a Square starring Frankie Vaughan. In Almonds Green there were garden nurseries on the right with greenhouses. At Broadway the bus passed the Regal cinema and we again craned our necks to see what was on.

LFC UNVEIL NEW SHANKLY SIGN AT LOCAL PLAYING FIELDS Anew Bill Shankly sign has been installed recently at the playing fields in West Derby which carry his name. The family of the legendary Reds’ manager unveiled the new colourful sign, which was created to mark the 100th anniversary of his birth. The 10’x5’ sign, which has been funded by Liverpool Football Club and Liverpool City Council, features one of Shankly’s most famous quotes "No player is asked to do more than another. Everyone shares the load." Shankly’s granddaughter, Karen Gill, who is the Honorary President of the Liverpool Football Club Supporters Committee, said: "I am extremely proud to present this sign in my grandfather’s ho-

nour today and I would like to thank everyone at the Club and Liverpool City Council who have made it happen. I know that my grandfather would have been delighted with this because his great passion in life was football and providing opportunities for youngsters to play." Liverpool City Council’s assistant cabinet member for culture and tourism, Councillor

www.liverpoollink.co.uk Lana Orr, added: "Bill Shankly was one of the most colourful figures in the history of football. The much-loved character continues to inspire youngsters today, as he is remembered with affection for his unwavering commitment to the team and determination to bring out the best in all his players. I’m delighted to have been part of this special sign unveiling, and hope that the sight of his name will spur the next generation on to achieve their goals – on and off the pitch!" Chris Carline, who as well as being a City C o u n c i l Neighbourhood Team Leader for the area is also Bill’s Grandson, stat-

ANNIE ON THE IVORIES by Anton Valdemart The organ music soared and cascaded around the little valley, sometimes solemn but more often manic in its gaiety.

“Annie’s on the ivories again,” said Patience Pugh to her friend Constance as they walked through the village. “Let’s go and talk to her.” They entered the gospel hall, a simple tin tabernacle standing in an orchard. Annie Bromley was a stout, jolly woman whose musical skill was admired by the whole community. Her plump hands danced or hovered over the keys depending on what she was playing. hymns, of course, but she was equally at home with catchy music hall tunes. She could have everyone tapping their feet or plunging into gloom, such was the emotional power of her expertise. “I need some fresh air,” she told her friends, easing herself out of the wooden seat, stepping down on to the slate floor. The three exchanged some pleasantries before Annie set off alone up the hill. “She’s a strange one,” said Patience as they watched her go. It was a hot day and Annie sat down on a boulder to catch her breath. The air wafting down from the higher slopes was intoxicating. She quenched her thirst in a crystal clear spring gushing from rocks and set off back into the village. Annie felt energised by the cool water, her thoughts raced – she felt inspired. The next day she was imbued

with an eerie power as she entered the gospel hall. Her playing took on even greater complexity and skill. A group of children walking past spontaneously began to dance before their teacher told them to stop. Annie returned to the spring, craving the cool water. She filled a bucket to the brim, carefully carrying it back to her cottage. The following morning was clear and bright. Annie strode through the village, her face beaming with an inner light. She sat at the organ, flexed her fingers and began to play. The music rose to a crescendo, filling the air with magical melodies. The children were the first to be affected, sat at their desks in the school next to the gospel hall. They stood up and began to dance. “Sit down!” shouted the teacher as the children danced more and more wildly. Then she joined

Say you saw it in the LINK Once you have answered these questions, become fully associated to what these beliefs have been costing you. Finally, we can’t get rid of a belief without replacing it with a new one, so write down some positive replacements for the limiting beliefs you have just eliminated. Once you have chosen new beliefs think of some references, or ‘table legs’, that will support your new belief. Whatever the results you are after, think of a person or role model who is already achieving results in a particular area and ask them or think about what their beliefs are.

GET FIGHTING FIT by Paul Coshott MotivationTurning your beliefs into more positive ones

DOVECOT St Luke’s Community Centre, Princess Drive

9.30am, 5.30pm & 7.30 pm Michelle 07940 181 515

What I would like you to do is to write down all your beliefs that empower you, and all your beliefs that dis-empower you. Jot down as many as you can. Spend about 10 minutes doing this. Take a moment to review your beliefs and circle the 3 most empowering beliefs on your list. How do they empower you? How do they strengthen your life? Think about the positive effects they have on you. Strengthen your emotional insensitivity and sense of certainty that these beliefs are true, and real, so they can guide your future behaviours.

Now look at your disempowering beliefs. What I want you to do here is to knock those legs of certainty from under these beliefs. Choose the two most disempowering beliefs and ask yourself the following questions: • How is this belief pathetic and absurd? • Was this person I learned this belief from worth modelling in this area? • What will it ultimately cost me emotionally if I don’t let go of this belief? • What will it ultimately cost me in my relationship if I don’t let go of this belief? • What will it cost me physically? • What will it cost me financially?

Daleys Dental would like to welcome Mr Andrew Walkerto the practice. As you can see from his profile he has a special interest in gum disease. Andrew told the LINK recently “Originally from Liverpool, I graduated from Sheffield Dental School in 2005. Following one year as a general dental practitioner in Lincoln, I moved to work at York District Hospital in the Department of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery. During my 2 years as a Senior House Officer in York, I gained the D i p l o m a o f Membership of the Faculty of Dental Surgery at the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh.” Andrew continued “In 2008 I moved back to Sheffield to work part time in general practice and start a 4 year training prog r a m m e i n Periodontology (the treatment of gum disease). In 2011 I was awarded a Masters of

Clinical Dentistry (Periodontology) with Distinction, from the University of Sheffield. I then spent another year at the University to do further training in general restorative dentistry. Although I have a special interest in gum disease I enjoy all aspects of dentistry and strive to attain the highest standards I can. I am a member of

the British Society of Periodontology and regularly attend conferences dealing with the latest advances in treatment and research. In 2011, at the British Society of Oral Development and Research, I presented the findings of a Service Evaluation I undertook during my training.

ALDER FC HILLY TO THE RESCUE by Peter Harrison In common with all otheramateur football teams, the incessant rain has seen very little football played this month. The second team progressed in the John Gregson Cup, after a 4-2 victory against Bootle. Trailing 2-1 with ten minutes left on the clock, Hilly scored a rare goal to take the game into extra time. Dale Irvine, Sam Parry and Dean

Welsh netted the other important goals. The first team bowed out of cup action with a 4-2 defeat against league leaders Liver Academy. The game was finely balanced at 2-2 with five minutes left, but two late strikes sealed the game. Regular marksman Antony Barnes and Boardy were the Alder scorers. The Veterans were also eliminated from

the cup in a 4-1 defeat to Jawbone. Played at a blustery Buckley Hill venue, the wind-assisted second half proved vital as Kevin Addo scored the Alder consolation. Finally there is a charity event on Sunday March 2nd in aid of the Walton Neurology Unit. A charity bike ride is being held leaving the Alder Club at approximately 10.00 am, taking the

bicycle route to Formby Cricket Club. There is a £10 entry with all proceeds going to the nominated charity. Arrangements have been made for all bikes to be transported back to the Alder Club. In the evening starting at 6.00 pm there is a function at the Alder Club with a disco and prize raffles - all are welcome. So come along have some fun and keep fit for a great cause.

SOUTH HOPE FOR SOME DRY WEATHER by Jim Stanway The last month has seen South Liverpool FC go without any football as the winter monsoon has meant free Saturdays since early January. The weather forecasters are telling us that the worst is over now and we can expect some Saturday football once more! The first team will have their first game after the enforced winter break at Southport Trinity who play on an artificial surface in Skelmersdale which is helpful with the Liverpool County FA Challenge Cop semi-final against old rivals Old Xaverians due in early March. With the first division title now beyond the team after a succession of draws, and with Maghull continuing to win matches, the runnerup spot is still up for grabs so the last 12 league matches will not be entirely with-

out interest! The reserves have also not played since the beginning of January but still have an outside chance of promotion. They are due to play most of their main rivals at home in the final 12 games and have only lost

once at home all season. They will also hope for some games before their own semi-final, in the league cup against league leaders Rainhill Town in mid-March.

November, albeit an 8-1 thrashing of Maghull, and have now started the league cup competition, hoping to qualify for the semifinals after playing Mallaby, West Kirby and Bootle on a home and away basis.

The youth team have only played one game since
