DEBUNKING “NO PAIN, NO GAIN”
BY JULIAN BISQUERT
Why smart training beats suffering every time.
For decades, the phrase “no pain, no gain” has echoed through gyms, locker rooms and fitness culture. It’s often worn like a badge of honour. The idea that if a workout doesn’t hurt, it probably wasn’t effective.
But as a physiotherapist working with neurological patients, recreational athletes and committed gymgoers, I can tell you this: pain is a poor measure of progress, instead pain is more of a guide.
In fact, chasing pain is one of the fastest ways to stall your training altogether.
There’s a huge difference between productive training fatigue and warning signals from your body. Understanding that difference can be the key to building strength, performance, and resilience for the long term.
Discomfort vs Pain
Let’s start with an important distinction. Training should feel challenging. Muscles burn, breathing becomes heavier, and fatigue builds towards the end of a set. That’s normal, that’s effort, that’s the grit.
But pain is different.
Pain that:
• Sharpens with movement
• Changes your technique
• Lingers for days
• Appears suddenly during a lift
These are not a sign you’re pushing through to the next level. It’s often your body asking you to change
something. This could be: load, volume, recovery, or technique.
Many injuries I see in clinic don’t come from a single dramatic moment. They develop slowly, when athletes repeatedly push through warning signs because they believe pain equals progress.
Why Pain Became Part of Fitness Culture
The “no pain, no gain” mindset partly comes from old-school training philosophies where toughness and resilience were prioritised above all else.
There’s no doubt that elite athletes train incredibly hard. But they also train intelligently.
Professional sports teams, including those competing in leagues such as the Premier League, monitor training loads carefully. Recovery, deload weeks, and injury prevention strategies are built into their programmes.
The goal isn’t to suffer endlessly.
The goal is to adapt without breaking down.
That same principle applies to anyone who trains regularly.
The Role of Progressive Overload
Real progress in the gym doesn’t come from pain. It comes from progressive overload.
This simply means gradually increasing the demand placed on your body over time.
That might look like:
• Adding a small amount of weight but reducing the amount of reps
• Improving control or technique
• Increasing range of motion
These small, consistent improvements allow muscles, tendons and the nervous system to adapt safely.
Pain, on the other hand, often forces the opposite. Instead of building momentum, it interrupts training with setbacks, reduced load, or time away from the gym.
When Training Should Feel Hard
None of this means training should feel easy.
Good training often involves effort, fatigue and temporary soreness. Delayed onset muscle soreness (DOMS), that familiar stiffness a day or two after a workout, is a normal response to unfamiliar load.
But soreness shouldn’t be the goal.
In fact, once your body adapts to a training programme, soreness usually decreases even as performance improves. That’s a sign your body is becoming more efficient and resilient.
Progress isn’t measured by how destroyed you feel afterwards, it’s measured by what you can do consistently over time.
The Cost of Ignoring Pain
Pushing through pain doesn’t just increase injury risk, it can also change how you move over an extended period of time.
When something hurts, the body naturally compensates. You might shift weight differently, recruit other muscles, or alter joint positions to avoid discomfort.
Over time, these compensations can overload other tissues and create secondary issues.
What started as a mild irritation in a shoulder or knee can gradually evolve into a more complex problem.
Listening early often prevents bigger interruptions later.
Smarter Signs of Progress
Instead of judging a workout by how painful it felt, try looking at different indicators of improvement:
• Are you lifting slightly heavier than last month?
• Are your movements more controlled?
• Are you recovering faster between sessions?
• Are previous aches becoming less frequent?
These are the real signs your training is working.
Fitness is not a single heroic session, it’s hundreds of consistent ones.
Training for the Long Game
The most successful athletes and gym-goers share a common trait: they stay healthy enough to keep training.
That means respecting recovery, adjusting loads when needed, and understanding that progress isn’t always linear.
Sometimes the smartest training decision is reducing intensity for a week, refining technique, or prioritising sleep and recovery.
Those choices don’t weaken progress.
They protect it.
Time for a new motto?
If there’s a phrase that deserves to replace “no pain, no gain”, it might be this:
No consistency, no gain.
Consistency builds strength.
Consistency builds resilience.
Consistency keeps you moving forward.
Pain rarely does.
Train hard, but train smart.

STRENGTH TRAINING THROUGH MENOPAUSE
BY DEANA RILEY
Menopause is a powerful transition. Hormonal changes—particularly the decline in oestrogen—can bring symptoms such as fatigue, weight gain, sleep disruption, low mood, and changes
in body composition. While these shifts can feel frustrating or discouraging, there is one form of exercise consistently shown to counter many of these effects: strength training.
Lifting weights during and after menopause isn’t just about building muscle or improving appearance. It’s one of the most effective ways to protect long-term health, improve daily function, and feel strong and confident in your body.
The Hormonal Shift and Its Impact
As oestrogen levels decline, several physiological changes tend to occur:
• Muscle mass naturally decreases
• Bone density declines
• Fat storage shifts toward the abdomen
• Metabolism slows
• Insulin sensitivity may worsen
These changes increase the risk of conditions such as osteoporosis, metabolic syndrome, and cardiovascular disease. Strength training directly targets many of these risks.
Preserving and Building Muscle
From the age of around 30, adults begin losing muscle mass gradually. During menopause this process—called sarcopenia—often accelerates.
Strength training stimulates muscle protein synthesis, allowing the body to maintain and build lean tissue. This matters because muscle is metabolically active; it burns more calories at rest than fat tissue and supports a healthier metabolic rate.
Maintaining muscle also improves everyday function. Activities such as climbing stairs, carrying shopping, and maintaining balance become easier when muscle strength is preserved.
Protecting Bone Health
One of the most significant risks during menopause is bone density loss. Oestrogen plays a key role in maintaining bone strength, and its decline increases the risk of fractures.
Resistance training places controlled stress on bones. This stress signals the body to maintain or increase bone density. Exercises such as squats, deadlifts, lunges, and presses are particularly effective because they load the skeleton and stimulate bone remodelling.
For women approaching or experiencing menopause, lifting weights can be one of the most powerful tools for preventing osteoporosis.
Supporting Metabolic Health
Many women notice weight gain around the abdomen during menopause. This shift is partly hormonal but is also influenced by reduced muscle mass and changes in insulin sensitivity.
Strength training improves how the body uses glucose and can increase insulin sensitivity. This means the body handles carbohydrates more efficiently, helping regulate blood sugar and potentially reducing the risk of type 2 diabetes.
In addition, muscle tissue increases resting energy expenditure, which supports weight management over time.
Improving Mood and Cognitive Health
Menopause can bring emotional changes, including anxiety, irritability, and low mood. Strength training offers powerful mental health benefits.
Resistance exercise has been shown to:
• Increase endorphin release
• Reduce symptoms of anxiety and depression
• Improve sleep quality
• Support cognitive function
Many women also report a psychological benefit that goes beyond chemistry: lifting weights builds confidence. Seeing measurable improvements in strength can foster a sense of capability and resilience during a time of physical change.
Enhancing Joint Stability and Reducing Injury Risk
As muscle mass declines, joints often lose some of their stability. This can increase the risk of injury and contribute to aches and pains.
Strength training reinforces the muscles surrounding joints, improving stability and alignment. Stronger glutes, hamstrings, and core muscles, for example, can reduce strain on the knees and lower back.
Better balance and coordination—often trained alongside strength—also reduce the risk of falls.
It’s Never Too Late to Start
One of the most encouraging findings in exercise science is that the body responds to strength training at almost any age. Women in their 50s, 60s, and even 70s can significantly increase muscle strength and improve bone health through resistance exercise.
The key is consistency rather than intensity. Starting with two or three sessions per week and focusing on fundamental movements can produce meaningful benefits.
Getting Started Safely
For women new to weight training, a simple approach works best:
• Begin with full-body sessions two or three times per week
• Focus on foundational movements such as squats, hinges, pushes, pulls, and carries
• Start with manageable weights and gradually increase resistance
• Prioritise proper form and recovery
Working with a qualified trainer—particularly one experienced in women’s health—can help build confidence and ensure exercises are appropriate for individual needs.
A Powerful Tool for Midlife Health
Menopause often comes with a cultural narrative of decline. Strength training challenges that narrative. Rather than becoming weaker with age, women who lift weights frequently become stronger, more resilient, and more physically capable than they have been in years.
By preserving muscle, strengthening bones, supporting metabolic health, and improving mental wellbeing, resistance training provides one of the most comprehensive tools available for thriving through menopause.
It’s not just about lifting weights—it’s about lifting the quality of life in midlife and beyond.
PEPTIDES & ANTI-AGEING –SIMPLE GUIDE
BY DR JANE LEONARD
What are peptides?
Peptides are short chains of amino acids — the same building blocks that make up proteins like collagen, elastin, and keratin.
Think of them as tiny “messenger molecules” that tell your skin and body how to behave.
Peptides for the skin
Using peptides in skincare has 3 key benefits:
• Improves skin texture
• Reduces the appearance of wrinkles
• Supports collagen production
This helps slow early signs of ageing, prevents fine lines from worsening, and improves overall skin quality.
Peptides can be found in:
• Skincare (serums, creams)
• Supplements (less proven for skin)
• Professional treatments (e.g. injections in some clinics)
Important: They are NOT a replacement for treatments like Botox, but with consistent use, they can deliver great long-term results.
How do peptides anti-age the skin?
1. Stimulate collagen production
“Signal peptides” tell your skin to produce more collagen by activating repair processes in the dermis.
Skin becomes firmer, plumper, and wrinkles appear reduced over time.
2. Improve skin barrier
They strengthen the outer skin layer, helping retain moisture.
Especially helpful for dry skin, eczema, and dermatitis.
3. Reduce wrinkles (Botox-like effect)
Some peptides relax facial muscle movement slightly.
Helps soften expression lines like crow’s feet and forehead lines.
4. Support repair & healing
Help repair sun damage and environmental stress.
Can improve pigmentation, acne scarring, and uneven tone.
5. Boost elasticity
Support collagen + elastin production.
Skin feels more supple, with less sagging.
Peptides
for the body
Peptides also act as signalling molecules in the body, influencing processes like healing, hormones, and metabolism.
Important: Many uses are still experimental — there’s a lot of hype online.
Potential benefits
1. Muscle growth & recovery
* May support lean muscle growth
* Can improve recovery after exercise
2. Better sleep
* May improve sleep quality
* Can support deeper, restorative sleep
3. Fat loss & metabolism
* May increase fat breakdown
* Can help regulate appetite
Results vary a lot
4. Cognitive support
* May support memory and focus
* Possible neuroprotective effects
5. Injury healing & inflammation
* May help tendon, ligament, and muscle recovery
* Can reduce inflammation
Strong evidence is still limited
Summary
Peptides are promising in anti-ageing and longevity. They can support skin health, recovery, and overall ageing processes.
But:
* Evidence is still developing
* They are NOT a quick fix
* They work best alongside the basics: sleep, hydration, exercise, diet, stress management, and good skincare

THE LONELIEST GENERATION OF GYM-GOERS
BY OLIVER WOOD
You walk into the gym and no one looks up. Headphones are in, eyes are down, and everyone is locked into their own world. Rows of people train side by side, yet completely alone. Welcome to the quietest gym culture we have ever created.
The Silent Gym
There was a time when gyms were loud in more ways than one. Weights clanged, music played, and conversations happened naturally between sets. “How many sets have you got left?” “Need a spot?”
“One more rep.” These were small interactions, nothing major, but they mattered. Now you can train for 90 minutes without saying a single word, and most people do. It is not hostile or intentional. It is just silent.
The Technology Bubble
The modern gym experience is perfectly engineered for isolation. Headphones go in before the warmup even begins. Programmes live on apps, sets are tracked on screens, and rest is timed by watches. There is no need to ask anyone anything. Your workout is planned, your rest is dictated, and your progress is recorded. Everything you need is already in your pocket, on your wrist, or in your ears. Technology did not just enhance training; it removed interaction from it.
It’s Not Just the Gym
used to be part of the process. Now it is optional, and most people opt out.
The Socially Awkward Athlete
This shift did not start with fitness. Look around and it becomes clear that we do not communicate like we used to. We avoid phone calls, order through apps instead of speaking, and sit next to each other while scrolling through separate digital worlds. The gym is not the cause of this change; it is the mirror. It is simply a place where the shift becomes impossible to ignore, because interaction
It is not that people do not want connection, but that we have become less comfortable with it. Eye contact feels like an interruption, asking for a spot feels like an inconvenience, and starting a conversation feels unnecessary. So we default to silence. Headphones are not just for music anymore; they are a signal. Do not disturb. Do not engage. Do not break the routine, even when nothing is playing.
The Death of Shared Effort
There is something missing from modern training, and it is not data, structure, or efficiency. It is energy — the kind that comes from other people. The push from a stranger watching your last rep, the nod of respect after a hard set, and the unspoken competition that makes you lift slightly heavier all used to be part of the gym experience. Now motivation is internal or digital: a number on a screen, a target to hit, a notification to close. But numbers do not cheer for you, and a watch cannot spot you.
More Connected. Less Together.
We have never been more connected. Every workout can be shared, every run uploaded, and every stat compared. Platforms have turned training into a network. But connection is not the same as presence. You can have hundreds of people view your workout and still not speak to a single person while doing it.
The Only Question Left
Next time you train, pay attention — not to your sets, your reps, or your numbers, but to the room itself. Listen to what is actually being said. If anyone speaks at all, it is usually the same question: “How many sets have you got
left?” That is it. Not advice, encouragement, or conversation — just logistics. Communication in the gym has been reduced to necessity. We only speak when something is in the way, and everything else stays internal or digital.
Is This Actually a Problem?
For some people, this shift feels like progress. There is no pressure, no judgement, and no unwanted conversation — just you and your workout. For beginners especially, this can feel safer, more controlled, and more predictable. There is value in that. Not everyone wants the old-school gym culture, and not everyone needs it. But something has still changed.
What We Lost Without Noticing
We did not remove community overnight; we slowly engineered it out. Step by step, headphones replaced conversation, apps replaced interaction, and convenience replaced friction. Yet friction was where connection used to live — in the small moments, quick exchanges, and shared effort. It did not disappear dramatically. It faded quietly.
The Trade Off
We gained efficiency, independence, and control over our environment. But in return, we lost something harder to measure: spontaneity, energy, and human presence. The gym became more personal, but also less social.
So What Now?
This is not about removing technology or forcing conversation. It is about awareness. Culture does not simply disappear; it is replaced. Every time we choose the screen over the room, the playlist over the person, and the routine over the moment, we shape what the gym becomes.
The Quiet Question
We have built the most advanced training environment in history — smart, efficient, and personalised. But standing in a silent room full of people, it is worth asking: did we make it better, or just quieter? We filled the gym with equipment, and emptied it of connection.
MOVEMENT IS MEDICINE
BY STEVEN DOBIE
Earlier this week, one of my clients celebrated her three-year anniversary of training with me. When she first walked into the studio, things looked very different. Years of chronic back pain had taken their toll. Standing for long periods was uncomfortable and movement felt restricted. Surgery had already been mentioned as a possible option, and like many people in that position, exercise felt intimidating. Three years later, the transformation has been remarkable. She now feels stronger than she ever
has, training has become part of her lifestyle, and weekends involve family walks, bike rides, and adventure holidays — things that once felt completely out of reach.
The journey didn’t happen overnight. It was built gradually through consistent work on the fundamentals: strength, stability, movement, alignment, and technique. We combined resistance training with reformer-based exercises, steadily improving how her body moved and supported itself — allowing her to tolerate more load, move
with confidence, and build real strength. Today, she’s not just pain-free — she’s a completely different person.
For me, it’s a reminder of something I see every day: movement truly is medicine. Fitness isn’t about how many sessions you can fit into a week — it’s about how well you move while doing them.
Make Every Rep Count
Spend enough time in gyms and you’ll hear the same conversations: how many classes have you done, how many sessions can you squeeze in? Somewhere along the way, fitness became a numbers game.
But after more than 20 years in the industry, my outlook has shifted. It’s less about how much I can do, and far more about how well I move.
When it comes to long-term health, the foundations come down to mobility, stability, strength, and movement. Get these right and everything else falls into place.
These days it’s about slowing things down, aligning the body, feeling the right muscles engage, controlling each repetition, and making every rep count.
Strength training and load-bearing exercise are vital — but only when the body can move well enough to support them. Load builds resilience, bone density, and real-world strength, but it has to be earned through good movement.
When people focus on how they move rather than how hard they push, results improve, posture changes, and the body begins to move the way it was designed to.
What We See Every Day
Most of the issues we see — tight hips, rounded shoulders, lower back discomfort — aren’t caused by injury, but by a lack of movement.
Once we focus on mobility, stability, and controlled strength, movement improves, confidence grows, and everyday life feels easier.
Sometimes the biggest transformation isn’t what the scales say. It’s how someone stands, walks, and moves through life.
Mobility First. Stability Second. Strength Third. Movement Always.
Mobility allows access to positions. Stability provides control and alignment. Strength allows the
body to tolerate load safely. When these elements work together, movement becomes efficient and sustainable.
Movement Outside the Gym
Movement doesn’t just happen in the gym. Walking, taking the stairs, carrying shopping, gardening, playing with the kids — it all adds up. These everyday movements are often the difference between a body that stiffens up and one that stays capable.
A Shift in Perspective
Turning 40 has shifted my perspective. It’s no longer about aesthetics or extremes, but about longevity — building a body that moves well and stays strong for years to come.
Move Better, Move Often
The best results don’t come from doing more, but from doing things better.
Move well. Move often. Because in the long run, movement really is medicine.

The Hidden Cause of Tooth Decay: It’s Not Just Sugar… It’s Frequency
While Smile Society is focused on delivering exceptional care, prevention remains at the heart of its philosophy. And when it comes to tooth decay, there’s one key message many patients still misunderstand.
Most people believe sugar is the main culprit. But the reality is more nuanced—and far more important.
What Really Causes Tooth Decay?
Tooth decay is not simply about how much sugar you consume, but how often your teeth are exposed to acid attacks.
Each time you eat or drink something containing sugar or carbohydrates, bacteria in your mouth produces acid. This acid weakens the enamel, and your teeth need time to recover between these attacks.
Why Frequency Matters More Than Quantity
Frequent snacking or sipping—especially throughout the day—means your teeth are under constant assault, with little opportunity to repair themselves.
Even small amounts of sugar, consumed regularly, can be more damaging than a larger amount eaten in one sitting.
A Modern Lifestyle Risk
One growing trend dentists are increasingly concerned about is the rise in protein shake
consumption among gym-goers. Many of these drinks, often consumed between meals, contain hidden sugars and are surprisingly acidic.
The result? A noticeable increase in patients presenting with multiple new cavities within just a few months, alongside sensitivity and visible enamel damage.
A Preventable Problem
Left unchecked, this pattern can lead to fillings, root canal treatments, or even tooth loss. The good news, however, is that it is entirely preventable.
How to Protect Your Smile
Simple changes can make a significant difference:
• Opt for sugar-free or low-acid drinks
• Avoid sipping beverages over long periods
• Keep sugary or acidic drinks to mealtimes only
• Rinse your mouth with water after consuming them
• Maintain regular dental check-ups
A Smarter Approach to Oral Health
At Smile Society, education is just as important as treatment. By helping patients understand the real causes of dental issues, the clinic empowers them to make better choices—and avoid unnecessary procedures altogether.
Because a healthy smile isn’t just about how it looks—it’s about how it lasts.

BTR LIVERPOOL HALF MARATHON 2026
BY CHARLIE ALFONSO
Thousands of spectators braved wet and windy conditions in Liverpool on Sunday 15 March to cheer on runners in the city’s biggest race event of the year.
The 33rd BTR Liverpool Half Marathon reached a major milestone, selling out all 15,000 places for the first time. Alongside it, the 10 Mile Road Race also sold out, with 500 runners taking part.
Despite the challenging weather, the atmosphere remained upbeat and inspiring, with runners and supporters lining the streets to create a memorable race day.
Both races began from a new start line at the waterfront Hill Dickinson Stadium, home of Everton Football Club. A total of 12,544 runners completed the courses, including 12,169 half marathon finishers and 375 in the 10-mile race.
This year’s updated route showcased more of Liverpool’s city centre, passing landmarks such as the Town Hall, Chinese Arch, and Liverpool Cathedral, before finishing at the iconic Pier Head. The grandstand finish and new event village, set against the backdrop of the Three Graces, proved a highlight for runners and spectators alike.
In a tightly contested half marathon, Jack Bromley took first place in 1:09:37, followed closely by
David Meehan and James Wootton. In the women’s race, Lea Adamson claimed victory in 1:17:04, setting a new course record.
Isabelle Jones secured second place for the third consecutive year, recording her fastest time yet, while Abbie Smith finished third.
The 10-mile race was equally competitive, with Paul Edwards defending his title in 54:37. Sean Jones and Elliot Kerins followed just seconds behind. Carol Carter led the women’s race, finishing in 1:06:17, ahead of Andrea Bond and Carla Houghton.
The event continues to be a key fixture in the North West running calendar, boosting the local economy and attracting international runners from over 30 countries.
More than 100 participants ran in support of the North West Air Ambulance, raising over £23,500 so far for the life-saving charity.
Two remarkable runners, Jamie Doolan and Stephen Symons, completed their 33rd consecutive Liverpool Half Marathon, having taken part in every race since it began in 1994.
Organisers praised the success of the event, highlighting the record participation, new route, and the resilience of runners in tough conditions. Planning is already underway for 2027, with provisional dates set for March, while the next event in the calendar, the Mersey Tunnel 10K, is fast approaching with limited places remaining.
THE WORLD’S BEST AND MOST UNIQUE GYMS AND EQUIPMENT
BY CHARLIE ALFONSO
The modern gym is no longer just a room filled with machines—it’s an experience, a statement, and increasingly, a destination. Across the globe, fitness spaces are being reimagined through architecture, environment, and cutting-edge equipment. From ancient-inspired training grounds to futuristic wellness sanctuaries, today’s most unique gyms blend performance, design, and identity in ways that transform how we train.
The Return of the Ancient: The Roman Empire Gym Concept
Before chrome dumbbells and LED-lit studios, there was raw strength. The “Roman Empire gym”
concept taps into this heritage—training spaces inspired by ancient arenas, stone textures, and gladiatorial discipline. Think sand pits, natural resistance tools, and functional movement over isolation.
This design philosophy is about stripping fitness back to its roots: human strength against gravity. It’s primal, theatrical, and deeply effective—mirroring today’s growing shift toward functional training and minimalist equipment.
Performance Meets Science: EXOS
At the opposite end of the spectrum sits EXOS, where elite sport meets data-driven design. Known for training professional athletes and executives alike, EXOS facilities feel more like performance labs than gyms.
Every detail—from movement screening to recovery zones—is engineered for optimisation. Members undergo full-body analysis, with programmes tailored to biomechanics, injury prevention, and long-term performance.
Ultra-Luxury Fitness: E by Equinox
If EXOS is a lab, E by Equinox is a private members’ club disguised as a gym. With limited membership, exclusive access, and five-star amenities, it redefines luxury in fitness.
Here, design is understated but meticulous—cool tones, precision lighting, and a near-clinical calm. Members receive hyper-personalised training alongside spa treatments and concierge-level service.
Architecture as Motivation: Wellness Sky
In Belgrade, Wellness Sky takes gym design to another level. Housed in a striking structure, it offers panoramic city views that turn every workout into a visual experience.
Inside, futuristic interiors meet high-end equipment and tranquil wellness zones. It’s less about intensity and more about atmosphere—creating a space where design itself motivates movement.
Nature as Equipment: Tulum Jungle Gym
Few gyms capture imagination like Mexico’s Tulem Jungle Gym. Built entirely from wood, stone, and bamboo, this open-air gym sits directly on the beach, merging fitness with nature.
There are no polished machines—only handcrafted weights and raw materials shaped into functional equipment. The result is a training ground that feels both primitive and innovative.
Fitness Meets Lifestyle: Train Beach Club
Dubai
Dubai has never done anything halfway, and Train Beach Club is no exception. Blending beach club
energy with high-performance training, it turns workouts into social experiences.
Expect ocean views, music-led sessions, and hybrid spaces that combine strength training with leisure. This is fitness as entertainment—where design encourages not just effort, but engagement.
The Rise of Specialist Equipment
While architecture draws attention, equipment innovation is equally reshaping gym design. A new wave of hyper-targeted machines is redefining how we train specific muscle groups.
The Vander M14+ machine is built for precision strength training, focusing on controlled resistance and biomechanical efficiency.
The Gymleco forearm machine targets grip strength and forearm development—an often overlooked but crucial area for overall performance.
The MedX medical rotary torso is a medical-grade machine designed to isolate and strengthen the core with exceptional spinal support, commonly used in rehabilitation and elite training.
The Future of Gym Design
From Roman-inspired arenas to performance labs, the world’s most unique gyms share one thing in common: intention. Every design choice—whether it’s natural materials, luxury privacy, or scientific precision—serves a purpose.
The future of fitness spaces lies at the intersection of experience, environment, and expertise.
The gym is no longer just where you work out. It’s where design shapes performance—and where performance shapes identity.

BODYBUILDING TRAINING FUNDAMENTALS
BY HENRY TAYLOR
Building muscle is not about random workouts or chasing a pump, it is about applying the right principles with consistency and intent. Too many people train hard without understanding what actually drives progress, which leads to plateaus, frustration, and wasted effort. This guide breaks down the core fundamentals of effective bodybuilding training,
giving you a clear framework to train smarter, maximise results, and build a physique that reflects your effort.
PROGRESSIVE OVERLOAD
Muscle growth happens when you force the body to adapt to increasing demands.
Over time this means:
* Lifting heavier loads
* Performing more reps
* Improving form and control (execution)
* Increasing training volume
Example:
* Week 1: Incline bench press 100kg x 8 reps
* Week 2: Incline bench press 100kg x 9 reps Without progressive overload, your body has no reason to grow.
MECHANICAL TENSION
This is the stress placed on muscle fibres under load.
To maximise it:
* Use moderate to heavy loads (6–12 reps)
* Control the eccentric (lowering phase)
* Train through full range of motion
Most effective reps happen when:
* The muscle is lengthened under load (deep stretch)
* The eccentric is controlled
* Tension stays on the muscle (not joints)
Be careful: as load increases, form can break down (shorter ROM, faster reps, joint stress), increasing injury risk. Progress safely.
TRAINING VOLUME
There’s a fine line—too little = no growth, too much = poor recovery.
Each set has:
* Stimulus (growth)
* Fatigue (recovery cost) Too much volume leads to:
* Fatigue outweighing stimulus
* Performance drop
* Slower or reversed progress
You need to find your individual sweet spot through trial and error.
INTENSITY
Intensity = how hard the set is, not how heavy it looks.
Example: making 3 plates feel like 5 through control and execution.
* Closer to failure = more muscle fibre recruitment
* Training too far from failure = less stimulus
* Training to failure too often = more fatigue
Balance is key.
EFFECTIVE REPS
Effort matters more than numbers.
The last 4–5 reps before failure are the most effective.
Most people stop when it gets hard—this is where growth actually begins.
* More fatigue = more fibre recruitment
* Final reps = peak growth stimulus Every set matters.
FREQUENCY
Muscle growth happens after training, not during.
* Training once per week = one growth spike
* More frequency = more growth opportunities
Guidelines:
* Large muscles (chest, back, legs): 1–2x per week
* Smaller muscles (arms, calves): 2x per week
Beginners should consider an upper/lower split to increase frequency and build a solid foundation.
TEMPO AND EXECUTION
This determines how the load is applied to the muscle.
* Fast, uncontrolled reps reduce tension and increase injury risk
* Controlled reps increase fibre recruitment and safety
Focus on control, not just moving weight.
SUMMARY
These principles take time to master. Stay consistent, train with intent, and apply these fundamentals.
Without proper training execution, even perfect nutrition won’t lead to physique changes.

YOUR GUIDE TO SAFE PREGNANCY EXERCISE
BY FRANKIE HARRIS
Training for each Trimester
Over the course of nine months, the body will adapt, stretch, and strengthen to support the growth of your baby. As your body adapts to pregnancy, it is natural for exercise routines to shift too. Rather than seeing pregnancy as a reason to stop moving, many women find it helpful to view it as an opportunity to adapt their training to meet specific physical demands. Approaching exercise with intention during
pregnancy can help you maintain strength, improve endurance, and support your body as it prepares for birth and recovery afterwards.
Birth itself is often described as one of the most physically and mentally demanding events the body will experience. Trimester training offers a straightforward way to adapt movement throughout pregnancy so that the body is supported and can work effectively as it changes.
Health guidance strongly encourages women to remain active during pregnancy where possible. Regular movement can support cardiovascular health, muscle strength, posture, and mental wellbeing for the mother, while also benefiting the baby. Exercise and fitness during pregnancy does not have to be focused on pushing the body to extremes or achieving personal bests. Instead, it is about maintaining consistency, listening to the body, and adapting training as pregnancy progresses.
First Trimester: Conception to Week 12
During the first trimester, hormonal changes can bring fatigue, nausea, and fluctuating energy levels. For some women, exercise may feel more challenging than usual, while others may only notice minor or no change to their activity levels and routine. The focus during this stage should be on maintaining gentle, consistent movement without placing unnecessary pressure on performance.
If you were active before pregnancy, you can often continue many familiar activities, if they feel comfortable and your healthcare provider has not advised otherwise. Walking, swimming, light jogging, and low-impact strength training can all be beneficial. Strength exercises using body weight or light resistance can help maintain muscle tone and joint stability. Movements such as squats, glute bridges, and upper-body strength exercises such as rows or tricep dips are useful for supporting posture and encouraging strength. In addition, flexibility and mobility work can help reduce early pregnancy discomforts and support the body to adapt to the physical changes that occur during pregnancy.
Some examples of mobility exercises that can be performed are hip circles (either standing or on a birthing ball), upper body rotations sitting or standing and turning the whole upper body to look right to left, ankle rolls, and “opening and closing the gates” for hip mobility.
The most important principle in the first trimester is listening to your body and being understanding and accepting of the changes that are happening. Fatigue is common, and rest is just as valuable as activity especially in the first trimester. Shorter sessions or gentler workouts may feel more manageable, and that is perfectly normal.
Second Trimester: Week 13 to Week 27
For many women, the second trimester brings an increase in energy. This is often due to hormone levels stabilising which can ease morning sickness and fatigue for many women. As the body adjusts to pregnancy, exercise can begin to focus more intentionally on building strength and endurance. During this stage, strengthening the muscles that support posture and stability becomes particularly beneficial. As the baby grows, the centre of gravity gradually shifts, which can place more strain on the lower back and pelvis. Strengthening the glutes, legs and back can help support these changes. Lower body exercises such as squats, step-ups and lunges can help develop the strength needed for upright labouring positions later in pregnancy. These exercises can be done at home, using a chair to support squatting and walking sideways up and down the stairs. These can be made progressively more difficult by adding weights, squatting deeper or increasing the height of the platform you are stepping up onto. Upright positions are often
encouraged during labour as they can support the natural descent of the baby utilising gravity and allow the pelvis to move more freely to allow your baby to navigate their way through the birth canal.
Upper body strength is also important, particularly for supporting posture and reducing shoulder and back tension as your baby grows. Exercises such as resistance band rows, light dumbbell presses, or wall push-ups can strengthen the upper body safely. Similarly to the lower body exercises, these exercises can be performed at home or in a gym depending on your confidence level and access to gym equipment. Core strength remains important during pregnancy, but exercises should focus on stability rather than intense abdominal work. Movements such as cat-cow stretches on all fours, seated lean backs or modified side planks can help engage the abdominal muscles while remaining pregnancy safe.
Classes such as yoga, pilates and other stretching exercises are also recommended to maintain core strength and help to relax the body.
Third Trimester: Week 28 to Birth
As pregnancy moves into the third trimester, comfort and mobility become the primary focus of exercise. The growing baby can make certain
movements more challenging, and fatigue may begin to return as the body prepares for labour. At this stage, exercise routines often shift toward sustaining mobility, supporting circulation, and preparing the body for birth. Gentle strength work can still be valuable, but workouts may become shorter and more adaptable.
Mobility exercises such as pelvic tilts, hip circles and gentle stretching can relieve discomfort and maintain freedom of movement. Many women also find exercise balls or birthing balls helpful for gentle movement and posture support. Breathing techniques can also become a key part of trimester training in the later stages of pregnancy. Controlled breathing supports relaxation and helps regulate the nervous system. Slow, steady breathing patterns can be practiced during simple movements such as squats or supported stretches, allowing the body to become familiar with these techniques before labour begins. Practising breathing alongside movement may also help women feel more confident in using these strategies during contractions.
Throughout all stages of pregnancy, pelvic floor health is an important aspect of physical preparation. The pelvic floor muscles support the bladder, bowel and uterus, and they play a
vital role during both pregnancy and recovery after birth. Regular pelvic floor exercises can help reduce the risk of urinary incontinence and support postpartum recovery. These exercises involve gently contracting and lifting the pelvic floor muscles before releasing and relaxing them again. Importantly, effective pelvic floor training includes both strengthening and relaxation, as the muscles must be able to lengthen as well as contract during birth. Many physiotherapists recommend simple daily pelvic floor routines, and there are online resources available that guide users through safe exercises and reminders.
Continuing to improve strength and endurance and practicing breathing techniques can support women and birthing people to feel more physically and mentally prepared for the challenges of labour. Exercise during pregnancy is ultimately about supporting the body through change, building resilience, and creating a foundation for recovery after birth. With thoughtful, adaptable training, movement can become a powerful tool in helping women navigate pregnancy and approach birth feeling stronger, more capable and connected to their bodies.
THE SIX NATIONS
BY ARCHIE HARRIS
Over the last two months, one of rugby’s oldest and most historic competitions has been taking place, the Six Nations. This year’s tournament was as thrilling as ever, with the eventual winners only claiming the trophy by two points, both of which were bonus points awarded for performances throughout
their five matches. The tournament takes place every year and consists of six teams playing a round robin format in which every team plays against each other. Unlike many other international sports competitions, the Six Nations is not held in one specific country. The nations will play either three home games and two away games or vice versa. To keep it fair, this switches every year so the teams can have home advantage the same amount of times over a two year span. Also, the tournament is a table format and countries earn points from their games which contribute towards it, deciding the eventual champions.
Attacking rugby is encouraged by awarding 4 points for a win, 2 for a draw and 0 for a loss. However, there are also bonus points on offer for various different eventualities. For example, if a team scores more than four tries in a single game, they earn themselves a point. Even if a team loses a game, they can still earn a point if they lose by 7 or fewer points, which promotes teams not giving up even when losing as that one point could be vital in the long run. In addition, if a team completes
a grand slam by winning all of their five games, they are awarded 3 bonus points to ensure they top the table, instead of a team who may have won four but gained more bonus points. Teams can also finish the tournament level at the top of table, in which case, the champions will be decided by points differential, subtracting the amount of points conceded by the amount scored. This was introduced in 1994 but previously teams could share the trophy as joint winners.
The Six Nations originated 143 years ago in 1883, initially being called the ‘Home Nations Championship’ which was the first international rugby union tournament. For 27 years this was between only four nations: England, Ireland, Scotland and Wales. The first five years were dominated by England and Scotland, winning the championship three and two times respectively. After this, it became a very competitive competition, with all four teams winning the tournament multiple times. By 1910, tournament wins were as follows: England - 5, Scotland - 11, Wales - 8 and Ireland - 5. In this period only one
team had completed the grand slam which was Wales who accomplished the feat twice in back to back years in 1908 and 1909. Following this, France were added an addition and the ‘Home Nations Championship’ was rebranded as the ‘Five Nations’. The French struggled initially however, not achieving their first title until nine years after the end World War 2 in 1954, a shared title between themselves, England and Wales. Their first solo win came in 1959, seeming to start a hot streak which saw them win four titles in a row and they have continued to be competitive since this period. The Five Nations format continued until 2000, the year that the addition of Italy took place. This is now the format we know today. Italy however have struggled since competing in the competition.
Not being a traditional rugby playing country has seemed to hinder them, only winning 11 out of the 75 games between their introductory tournament and 2015 despite winning their first game in the competition against Scotland. Between 2015 and 2022 Italy endured a period of 36 games without a win which was brought to an end at last in a famous
last minute away win over Wales at the Principality Stadium. Following this year’s tournament, they have at last beaten every team in the competition after beating England for the first time.
During the Six Nations, there are also other trophies up for grabs, such as the Triple Crown. This trophy pays homage to the previous format of the tournament, the Home Nations Championship. The Triple Crown can only be achieved by the four founding nations and is achieved by beating the other three home nations during the Six Nations. Dating back to the beginning of the Home Nations Championship, the Triple Crown is a prestigious award to win, however the physical trophy was only introduced in 2006, when the primary sponsors of the championship, Royal Bank of Scotland, commissioned Hamilton & Inches to design and create the trophy that could be awarded to any of the countries who achieve the feat. Between 2006 and 2026, the trophy has been won 13 times, with Ireland winning six, Wales winning four and England three, with Scotland yet to win one.
There are also trophies won for specific rivalry matches, which are not all exclusive to the Six Nations and may be awarded after matches between countries in other competitions. The Calcutta Cup is an example of this, with the trophy being awarded to the winner of the game between England and Scotland, and is older than the Home Nations Championship itself, first being awarded in 1879. The trophy is made up of melted down Indian rupees and was gifted by the Calcutta Club, hence the name.
Other rivalry trophies include: the Millennium Trophy (England vs Ireland), the Giuseppe Garibaldi Trophy (France vs Italy) and the Centenary Quaich (Scotland vs Ireland), along with four others. There are reasons behind each trophy, for example the Giuseppe Giribaldi Trophy is named after the leader in the unification of Italy, who was also a volunteer in the French Republican Army who fought against Prussia. The trophy was first awarded in 2007, commemorating the 200th anniversary of his birth. Scotland are the only country who play for a rivalry trophy in all of their
five Six Nations Matches. Along with these, there is also an award that nobody wants, the Wooden Spoon, a metaphorical award that is awarded or rather given to the team who finishes bottom of the table. Italy have 18 wooden spoons since their introduction to the tournament in 2000, the most of any country in that period by a difference of 14.
Throughout the competition’s 143-year history, there have been many famous victories for each of the six nations, not including Italy who are yet to win their first title. In the ‘Six Nations era’, the first grand slam belongs to France, who achieved the feat in 2002 with a 20-15 win over England securing the title. In this year, England finished with a ridiculous points differential of +131, compared to France’s +81, with only the loss to France keeping them from a famous, dominant title victory. France were led by the top points scorer of the tournament, Gérald Merceron, who scored a try, two conversions and two penalties in the win over the favourites, England.
2002 was the beginning of of a four-year streak of grand slams, with England coming back to
win theirs in 2003, before France achieved another, followed by Wales in 2005. As previously mentioned, Wales achieved the first grand slam in 1908 and then again in 1909, beating all three other home nations on their way to history. Since becoming the Six Nations, Wales have won four grand slams; 2005, 2008, 2012 and 2019 to go along with two other titles. In 2008, the Welsh had the most tries scored, least points conceded and the player of the tournament, Shane Williams. The Welsh winger also scored the most tries by an individual in the tournament with six. Wales proved that defence wins championships as they only conceded two tries in the entire tournament, beating England as the previous record holders with four tries conceded.
A famous Six Nations win for England came in 2003, the year after being pipped to the title by France. This time, England achieved the grand slam, beating second place Ireland to the title. The tournament came down to the final match in which
England were rampant against Ireland, winning 6-42 away at Lansdowne Road in Dublin. Top point scorer of the tournament Jonny Wilkinson scored two drop goals to go with his three conversions and one penalty to seal the grand slam with a points differential of +127. Nonetheless, Ireland have had some famous victories themselves, with three grand slams of their own, most recently in 2023. Captain Jonny Sexton led the team is his final Six Nations Championship aged 37. In the second round of games, they played eventual second place, France, led by player of the tournament and one the world’s best players, Antoine Dupont. During this game, Ireland earned themselves a bonus point for scoring four tries and captain Jonny Sexton kicked two conversions and a penalty, resulting in a 32-19 win, a result that would be crucial in winning the Six Nations. Although Scotland have won 14 championships, they are yet to win in the Six Nations era, with their final victory coming the year before the inaugural Six Nations in 1999.
Their last grand slam occurred in 1990, and despite a worse points differential than second place England, the Scots managed a narrow 13-7 win over England to secure the title.
2026 was the year of a particularly exciting Six Nations tournament, illustrated by the 111 total tries scored in the competition at an average of a staggering 7.4 per match. This is the most ever scored in a single Six Nations campaign with games ending in results such as 48-46 and 50-40 being an example of the thrilling, attacking rugby played during the tournament. The top two nations in the table would finish only two points apart, with the winners securing the title with the final kick of the tournament. France were favourites to win the title, which would make it back to back wins but were expected to be fiercely challenged by England and Ireland who both boasted strong squads as well. The championship kicked off at the Stade de France, where the defending champions France
would take on Ireland in front of an almost sold out crowd of 80,000. The French team started fast, scoring three unanswered tries in the first half, with their fourth coming six minutes into the second half. Ireland would try to muster a comeback, with two tries of their own in the 58th and 61st minute but would be held to only these two, before a try in the 80th minute from France secured the opening day victory. England began their campaign with a dominant 48-7 victory over Wales, limiting the Welsh to just one try whilst scoring seven of their own, with 22-year-old Henry Arundell grabbing himself a hat trick. The English fans were hoping this was the start of things to come for their side in the 2026 tournament. Having struggled in the 2025 tournament, Italy had the worst odds to win the title; however opened up with a shock win over Scotland at the Stadio Olimpico in Rome. 18-15 was the final score, with the majority of Italy’s points coming in the first half and Scotland with a
fight back in the second half which was proved to not be enough.
Round 2 started with a bounce back win from Ireland over Italy, finishing 20-13 at the Aviva Stadium in Dublin. Italy would earn themselves a bonus for only losing by 7 points. England would look to continue their hot form as they travelled to Scotland. Despite their respective results in the first round, Scotland would upset England with a 31-20 win in the capital, meaning the English team would need to win out just to have a chance at winning the championship. On the other hand, France took their momentum into their second game, with a dominant away win against Wales, finishing 12-54. It started with a try in the first minute of the game and seven more were scored in the 79 minutes that followed, with Wales only scoring two of their own. For the second successive game, France earned a bonus point, something that could be crucial come the end of the tournament.
Twickenham Stadium was the venue for the start of Round 3, where England would look to bring back hopes of the title with a tough match against
Ireland. Ireland however came with their own title hopes and would double the Lions score, winning 21-42 and diminishing any title dreams the English may have had, whilst taking another step towards the title themselves. Wales and Scotland endured a tight match that would finish with the Scottish team edging out the Welsh 23-26 in front of a crowd of 70,649 in Cardiff. France would continue to dominate as they devoured Italy 33-8, scoring five tries in the process, also holding Italy to just one. With two games to go, France sat firmly at the top of the table, with Scotland and Ireland waiting for any slip up to capitalise on.
That slip up would come in Round 4, caused by one of the chasing packs, Scotland. The game took place in Edinburgh and with the home fans urging their team on, the Scots scored seven tries, making the most of their home advantage. France would score six tries of their own but it wouldn’t be enough to win and the game would end in a record breaking 50-40 win for the home side. France would come away with a bonus point but the dream of an 11th grand slam was over. Ireland would also take advantage of France’s loss, winning at home
against Wales, the game ending 27-17. The major shock of the round was still yet to come though as Italy were to play England on the 7th March. England were the only team that Italy had still not beaten in the Six Nations since making their debut 26 years ago. They took the lead in the 21st minute with a penalty before England answered back with a try. Italy were not going to go down easy however as they scored a try of their own and took a 10-5 lead going in to half time. The Lions would score a quick try, conversion and penalty within five minutes of the second half and it looked as though Italy would have to wait another year to beat England. Another penalty would be scored by England leaving Gli Azzurri 8 points behind. Two quick penalties however got them back in the game before a 72nd minute try followed by a made conversion secured a historic 23-18 win for the Italians. After being one of the favourites to claim the trophy, England now only had one win from four with defending champions France still to play.
Ireland would do their job in Round 5, beating Scotland 43-21, placing themselves top of the table
and awaiting France’s result against England which would decide the Six Nations 2026. This win over Scotland also secured Ireland the Triple Crown trophy for beating each of the other three Home Nations. First, Wales played Italy, a game that would end 31-17 in the Dragons favour, ending a run of 15 straight losses in the competition and bringing some joy back to the Welsh fans inside the Millennium Stadium in Cardiff.
Finally the game that would decide the tournament. France vs England. Stade de France, Paris. 78,000 watching on inside the stadium and plenty of fans watching from home. Irish fans hoping for an English victory to secure them the title. It was expected to be a tight game but nobody knew what was quite in store. This however was not a game that saw the teams sit back and try defend a lead but instead a game where they would just try to outscore each other. A whopping seven tries in just the first half, including a French penalty try, saw England slightly on top 24-27. 40 minutes of rugby was left to decide the Six Nations 2026, and France came out with a vengeance. They scored tries in the
42nd and 49th minute to take the lead before being quickly answered back by England with tries of their own in the 51st and 57th minutes. However, England had missed three conversions, leaving 6 extra points on table meaning the game was very close with 20 minutes to go. 22-year-old Louis Bielle-Biarrey scored his fourth try of the game and ninth try of the tournament in the 66th minute which regained the lead for France once again. England would answer back one more time with a try and conversion in the 77th minute, making the score 45-46 with less than two minutes to go in normal time.
France needed a miracle… and a miracle is what they got. The 80 minutes had finished, the next time the ball went dead the game was over and Ireland would be crowned champions. However, France were awarded a penalty, leaving the weight of France on Thomas Ramos’ shoulders. The competition’s top scorer and widely regarded as one of the world’s best kickers needed to score this to save the Six Nations. And score he did, nailing his kick perfectly through the uprights from 47 metres, clinching the victory from the jaws of defeat with the final action of the entire tournament. Jubilation for France and heartbreak for Ireland watching on. Both with four wins each, France claimed the
title after earning a bonus point in all five of their games, leaving them on 21 points, with Ireland only achieving 3, leaving them gut wrenchingly close on 19 points.
Les Bleus were Six Nations Champions for the 8th time in the Six Nations era and 20th time overall. Their eight Six Nations titles is the most of any country with England trailing just behind with seven. This year marked England’s worst Six Nations performance, only finishing with one win from five and only 8 total points. They are still the most successful country in the competition, having 29 total titles, with Wales in second with 28. Despite a disappointing tournament, Wales will be happy to have ended their three-year losing streak and will be looking to come back stronger next year.
2027 is bound to be a good year for the tournament, with France looking to go backto-back-to-back, Ireland looking to get over the line, England needing a reaction after this year’s performances. Italy and Scotland will be determined to win their first titles and Wales will be fighting to stop another torrid streak like they just had from happening again. Until then, France hold the bragging rights and of course, the Six Nations Trophy.

ARNOLD SPORTS FESTIVAL, UK
BY WILL MCKEOWN
What’s it actually all about?
So on a Saturday morning, me and two mates got into my car from Liverpool at 7.30am and drove straight to Birmingham NEC for the Arnold Sports Festival. Two hours on the M6, having a laugh and
getting content ideas together on the way, arrived knackered but ready for it. £45 each for the ticket was fair enough, not cheap but you get the full expo, no queues, straight in.
There was also a a kind of Comicon convention going on at the same time at the NEC so as we walked through there were a load of gym rats stood next to all these nerds dressed up as their favourite cartoon characters which was pretty funny to see.
We arrived at the expo and the place was buzzing. Halls were rammed, supplement stalls everywhere, blokes in string vests and girls in gym leggings trying to promote the brands they work for and sell pre-workout. Clothing brands, protein bars, the lot.
I went round with my mates, filming content and we had a proper laugh about the latest fitness trends.
They had a full gym setup right in the middle with machines, benches, racks so obviously I had to get a few sets in, it would be rude not to.
Bodybuilding stage was mental there, and the crowd was packed out for it. We watched a bit, then we
also went to see the strongman section as well. Also couldn’t forget the Hyrox section and had to make a video.
No kettlebells though which was a bit surprising as every man and his dog is doing kettlebells nowadays.
We also saw some big names in the bodybuilding industry walking around including Samson dauda and Andrew Jacked who are two of the biggest names at the moment.
Overall a successful and enjoyable trip with my mates. Loads of contented banked and a fun day out having a laugh. Definitely be back next year.
Andrew Jacked wins the 2026 Arnold Classic UK.
The 2026 Arnold Classic UK took place from Birmingham, with multiple divisions in bodybuilding taking the stage: Men’s Open Bodybuilding, Classic Physique, Men’s Physique, Fitness, Bikini, Wellness, and Wheelchair. The excitement from Columbus has carried over into the UK and the world’s best competitors will take the
stage once again. The competition began on Friday and continued into Saturday afternoon.
Andrew Jacked came into this competition fresh off his victory at the 2026 Arnold Classic earlier this month. The Nigerian-born star stunned the bodybuilding world by defeating a stacked lineup to win and capture the record-setting $750,000 firstplace prize. He went into Birmingham looking to continue momentum and did just that with another victory.
Rising contender Martin Fitzwater also entered the show with growing momentum following strong finishes at the Olympia level. With names like Hassan Mostafa and Akim Williams rounding out the lineup, the Men’s Open contest could easily turn into one of the most competitive battles of the spring bodybuilding season.
Generation Iron will be providing full results as they come in from the action in the UK this weekend. Below, check out the full results with more details being shared later.
As the seasons shift and the days slowly grow longer, there’s a familiar thought that begins to creep in for many of us: summer is coming. While it may feel distant in the chill of winter or the fresh bloom of spring, the truth is that
the bodies we want for summer aren’t built in a rush—they’re created through consistent, smart choices made months in advance. At AJMR Studio in Crosby, that philosophy has never been more exciting or more achievable, thanks to the arrival of a powerful new innovation: HIEM body sculpting. This cutting-edge treatment is redefining what it means to tone, strengthen, and sculpt the body—
and it’s doing so in a way that traditional workouts simply can’t replicate.
The Future of Body Sculpting Has Arrived
HIEM body sculpting is not just another trend; it’s a breakthrough in non-invasive aesthetic technology. Designed to target muscle groups with incredible precision, this treatment uses highintensity electromagnetic energy to stimulate thousands of muscle contractions in a single session.
And here’s where it gets even more impressive: each session lasts just 30 minutes, making it incredibly easy to fit into even the busiest schedule. Within that short time, your muscles are pushed to perform the equivalent of around 25,000 sit-ups, squats, or targeted contractions, depending on the area being
treated. It’s an intensity that simply isn’t achievable through conventional exercise.
Even better, HIEM allows you to treat two areas at the same time. That means you could be working on your abs and glutes simultaneously, or targeting thighs while strengthening your core—maximising results without adding extra time to your day.
What truly sets HIEM apart is how it works. Unlike voluntary contractions you perform during exercise, HIEM triggers what are known as “supramaximal contractions.” These are deeper, more powerful muscle engagements that your body simply cannot achieve on its own. The result? Enhanced muscle tone, improved strength, and a visibly more sculpted physique.
At AJMR Studio, clients are already discovering how transformative this can be. Whether you’re looking to tighten your core, lift and tone your glutes, or strengthen areas that have been resistant to traditional workouts, HIEM offers a solution that feels both futuristic and incredibly accessible.
Why the Gym Isn’t Always Enough
Let’s be clear—the gym has its place. Staying active, building strength, and maintaining cardiovascular health are all essential parts of a balanced lifestyle. But even with the most disciplined routine, there are limits to what you can achieve through exercise alone.
Plateaus happen. Certain muscle groups can be difficult to isolate. Time constraints can make it hard to stay consistent. And for many people, achieving that final level of definition—the kind that really stands out in summer—can feel frustratingly out of reach.
That’s where HIEM body sculpting steps in. It doesn’t replace your fitness routine; it enhances it. By working muscles at an intensity that’s impossible to replicate manually, it accelerates results and helps you break through those stubborn barriers— all in just half an hour per session.
Start Now, Shine Later
There’s a saying that has become something of a mantra in the world of aesthetics and wellness: summer bodies are made in winter. It’s simple, but it’s true.
The biggest mistake people make is waiting until late spring—or even early summer—to start thinking about their goals. By then, time is limited, and expectations can become unrealistic. Real, lasting results take planning, consistency, and a bit of patience.
Starting your HIEM body sculpting journey in winter or early spring gives your body the time it needs to respond, adapt, and transform. It allows for gradual, natural-looking improvements that build over time, rather than rushed, last-minute changes.
At AJMR Studio, the recommended starting point is a course of six sessions. This structured approach ensures that your muscles receive the consistent stimulation they need to begin developing and toning effectively. Most clients begin to notice visible improvements after completing this initial course—firmer areas, improved definition, and an overall more sculpted appearance.
From there, maintenance is simple. Occasional top-up sessions every few weeks help sustain and enhance your results, keeping you looking and feeling your best as summer approaches.
No Downtime, No Excuses
One of the most appealing aspects of HIEM body sculpting is how seamlessly it fits into modern life. There’s no downtime, no recovery period, and no disruption to your daily routine.
You can come in for a quick 30-minute session— even treating two areas at once—relax while the technology does the work, and then go straight back to your day.
In a world where time is often our most limited resource, treatments like this offer something truly valuable: efficiency. You’re investing in your body without sacrificing your schedule.
Making Results More Accessible Than Ever
Advanced treatments have often carried the perception of being out of reach—something reserved for a select few. But that’s changing.
At AJMR Studio, there’s a strong belief that everyone deserves access to treatments that make them feel confident and empowered. That’s why HIEM body sculpting is now more affordable than ever, opening the door for more clients to experience its benefits.
It’s not just about luxury; it’s about practicality. When you consider that each 30-minute session delivers the equivalent of tens of thousands of muscle contractions, the value becomes clear.
Pairing HIEM with Laser Hair Removal: The Ultimate Summer Prep
While body sculpting is a major part of getting summer-ready, it’s not the only one. Smooth, hairfree skin is another key element—and just like muscle toning, it’s something that requires forward planning.
Laser hair removal is most effective when started during the winter months. Why? Because the treatment works best when there’s a contrast between your natural skin tone and hair, and when the skin hasn’t been recently exposed to the sun.
Starting now means you can complete a full course of treatments before summer arrives. By the time the warmer weather hits, you’ll be able to enjoy
smooth, low-maintenance skin without the need for constant shaving or waxing.
At AJMR Studio, combining HIEM body sculpting with laser hair removal creates a comprehensive approach to summer preparation. It’s about more than just one treatment—it’s about a complete transformation that leaves you feeling confident from head to toe.
Confidence That Goes Beyond Appearance
While the physical results of HIEM body sculpting are impressive, the impact goes deeper than aesthetics. There’s a powerful psychological shift that happens when you start to feel stronger, more toned, and more in control of your body.
Confidence isn’t just about how you look in a swimsuit; it’s about how you carry yourself every
day. It’s the way you walk into a room, the way you engage with others, and the way you see yourself.
Treatments like HIEM aren’t about changing who you are—they’re about enhancing what’s already there. They help you feel like the best version of yourself, and that confidence radiates into every aspect of your life.
A Personalised Approach at AJMR Studio
No two bodies are the same, and no two goals are identical. That’s why every HIEM body sculpting journey at AJMR Studio begins with a personalised consultation.
This is your opportunity to discuss what you want to achieve, whether that’s a flatter stomach, more defined arms, or a lifted, toned appearance. From there, a tailored plan is created to ensure you get the best possible results.
The team at AJMR Studio is committed to providing not just treatments, but experiences. From the moment you walk through the door, you’re supported, guided, and cared for every step of the way.
The Time to Start Is Now
It’s easy to put things off. To say you’ll start next month, or when the weather improves, or when life feels a little less busy. But the truth is, there’s never a perfect time—only the time you decide to begin.
Starting your HIEM body sculpting journey now means giving yourself the gift of time. Time to see results. Time to build confidence. Time to truly enjoy the transformation.
And when summer finally arrives, you won’t be wishing you had started sooner—you’ll be stepping into it feeling ready, confident, and proud of what you’ve achieved.
Final Thoughts
The arrival of HIEM body sculpting at AJMR Studio marks an exciting new chapter—not just for the salon, but for anyone looking to take their body goals to the next level.
It’s innovative, effective, and designed to fit into real life. In just 30 minutes, treating two areas at once, and delivering the equivalent of 25,000
muscle contractions, it offers results that truly speak for themselves.
Pair it with laser hair removal, start your journey early, and embrace the idea that preparation is power. Because when it comes to feeling your best, the choices you make today shape the confidence you carry tomorrow.
So as the colder months linger and spring begins to bloom, remember this: summer isn’t something you wait for—it’s something you prepare for.
And at AJMR Studio, that preparation starts now.
SPRING/SUMMER MEN’S HAIR TRENDS
BY PETER CRANFIELD
It’s that time of year again—everyone’s asking: “Pete, what hair trends are going to be big this spring/summer?”
Now, I’ll admit, I’m a bit of a fashion and style nerd. I keep a close eye on awards season and runway looks—but the reality is, what you see on the red carpet doesn’t always translate into everyday, wearable styles for the average guy.
What I do is take inspiration from those highfashion looks and bring them down to earth— making them practical, low-maintenance, and easy to live with. So, if you’re after a fresh look this season, here are a few styles you can take straight to your barber:
MOD/MULLET – Jacob Elordi
Soft, textured, and easy to manage. This cut works best when it’s done properly—get the structure right, and it practically styles itself. Just a small amount of product keeps everything in place without overdoing it.
SOFT BUZZ – Jake Gyllenhaal
A more relaxed version of the classic buzz cut. It’s still short, but less harsh—no heavy scalp exposure. A skilled barber can create this using scissors or clippers, and a touch of natural product gives it a clean, effortless finish.
THE FLOW – Glen Powell
Perfect if you want a bit of length without the hassle of long hair. It sits right in that middle ground—easy, natural, and low-maintenance. The
key here is working with your natural growth, not against it. Great for finer hair too, especially if you want to avoid showing the scalp.
OLD MONEY – Jamie Dornan
This has easily been the most requested look lately, especially from guys in their 30s and 40s. It’s all about looking sharp without trying too hard— clean, well-groomed, and quietly confident. Think effortless style rather than chasing trends.
There’s a clear theme running through all of these: softer, looser, more natural styles. Well-cut, but never overdone. Effortlessly cool.
These are the kind of looks that work anywhere— whether you’re behind a desk, out at a gig, or grabbing a drink at a bar opening.
Less is definitely more right now. We’re moving away from high-maintenance styles that need
constant attention. A solid cut, a bit of product, and something that grows out well—that’s where it’s at.
Of course, the classics—the “bread and butter”— aren’t going anywhere. They’ll always have their
place. But if you’re looking to stay current this season, it might be time to go a little softer, a little looser… and a lot more wearable.
LIVERPOOL ACTIVEWEAR BRAND NOW IN BOOHOOMAN AND DEBENHAMS
BY HELEN GOODWIN
Liverpool-based performance brand Velozia is entering its next phase. Known for designing training apparel built around movement and everyday performance, the brand has announced a new retail partnership with
fashion retailers BoohooMAN and Debenhams as it launches its latest Spring collection.
Founded with a focus on purposeful training and consistency, Velozia has quickly built a reputation
among runners, Hyrox competitors and everyday athletes looking for apparel that performs both in and beyond the gym.
“Velozia is built for people who value consistency over intensity,” says Carl, Co-Founder of the brand. “Our products are designed to move naturally with the body. They should feel intuitive, responsive and supportive without distraction. Every detail is considered so the clothing enhances motion rather than restricting it.”
At the heart of the new collection is Velo-Dri™, Velozia’s proprietary performance fabric technology developed specifically for high-intensity training environments. Each garment is engineered with advanced sweat-wicking properties, enhanced breathability and an ultra-lightweight feel designed to move with the athlete.
The range has been tested with Hyrox athletes and competitive runners, ensuring the products perform in real training environments rather than controlled lab settings.
The collection itself is organised around two complementary systems: performance and lifestyle.
The Velocity range focuses on high-performance training and race-day readiness. Key pieces include a lightweight singlet designed for gym sessions, track work and competition, alongside compressive half-tights developed for Hyrox, functional fitness and running. Built using the Velo-Dri™ fabric, the pieces deliver support, ventilation and freedom of movement for athletes pushing their limits.
Alongside this sits the Performance Lifestyle range, designed for preparation, recovery and everyday wear. The clean-cut tracksuit is intended for pretraining routines and post-workout recovery, while the versatile Tri-Set pairing of t-shirt and shorts offers a flexible option for warm-ups, light training or casual use. The aim is to create apparel that transitions naturally between training environments and daily life.
Across the collection, customers will also see the return of Velozia’s distinctive Hombre Pattern™, the
brand’s signature design motif, now introduced in new colourways.
“Our existing palette of Signature Blue and Terracotta has been incredibly well received,” Carl explains. “For the new season we’re introducing two additional tones inspired by movement and rhythm.”
The first, Kinetic Olive, is an earthy tone designed to move easily from gym floor to everyday wear.
The second, Cadence, is a cooler blue-grey shade named to reflect rhythm, controlled effort and the steady tempo of consistent training.
Community continues to play a central role in how the brand evolves.
“Velozia is ambassador- and community-led,” the team explains. “Our product development is shaped by feedback from a real three-tier community of athletes and everyday movers. That keeps our decisions grounded in how people actually train, rather than simply following trends.”
With the launch of its new Spring range and expanded retail presence, Velozia continues to position itself as a brand built around purposeful movement, bridging high-performance training with modern fitness lifestyle.

WOMEN’S SUPER LEAGUE
BY CHARLOTTE HARRIS
The Women’s Super League is the top tier of the English women’s football pyramid, having been formed in April 2011. As of the 2025/26 season, the WSL features the most FIFA Women’s World Cup 2023 players out of any league worldwide. With women’s football experiencing exponential growth
in recent years, the WSL has also developed and advanced in order to facilitate elite competition here in England. Whilst it currently hosts 12 teams, as of the 2026/27 season, the WSL will welcome two more teams and expand to a 14 team league. Women’s football is heading in an extremely exciting direction and the best way to keep up with some of the top teams in the world is through the Women’s Super League. In this article, we will explore all things Women’s Super League and inform you on the best way to get to know, follow and support world class female footballers playing here in England.
The Women’s Super League, also known as the WSL, is the highest level that a female footballer can play at in England. This season the league is home to 12 teams; 10 of which are affiliated to a Premier League club, with one of the remaining two having their men’s side play in the Championship and the final team being the first independent female football club to play at the top level. London City Lionesses were promoted to the Women’s Super League off the back of a very
impressive season last year in the WSL 2 and are rewriting history as they continue their success in the WSL without funding from a male counterpart side. Leicester women are making their club proud as they play their football in the top level of English football and fight to keep their place in this established league. The remaining teams that feature in the Women’s Super League are as follows: Arsenal, Aston Villa, Brighton, Chelsea, Everton, Liverpool Tottenham, Manchester City, Manchester United and West Ham.
The 2025/26 WSL season has already been one to remember. For those football fans looking for games with lots of goals, big upsets and fierce competition at the top, the Women’s Super League is the place to be. The goals have been shared across many different clubs from players of different nationalities, such as Manchester City’s Jamaican striker Bunny Shaw to English superstar Jess Park, for Manchester United in her first season at the club. In addition to the WSL’s exciting scorelines, for Premier League lovers who want to see more from their clubs, the Women’s Super League can
fill that void. With the current standings, the top 5 positions are held by Premier League affiliated clubs, with 5 more featuring throughout the table. Furthermore, in relation to the WSL’s links to the Premier League, the 2025/26 season has provided fans with an unique opportunity to combine their love for the male and female top league. This year has seen more matches than ever being played at the men’s teams home ground, with Aston Villa, Arsenal, Everton and Leicester opting to play all of their home games at grounds that feature (or have featured) in the Premier League. This decision has been monumental in the growth of not only the league, but in women’s football too, as it attracts fanbases from different divisions and encourages attendance from fans who had not yet watched a live female football game. As mentioned before, if you love the game, love goals and want to share your love for the grounds with those close to you, the Women’s Super League is perfect for you. In terms of English talent, the Women’s Super League has it all. 9 out of the 11 starting players in the Women’s European Cup final win vs Spain
are playing their club football in the WSL, with the majority of the remaining squad also playing here in England. Not only is this exciting as it shows how renowned the league is, but it is an amazing opportunity for fans to watch their favourite England players live week in week out. From experienced players like Lucy Bronze and Leah Williamson at Chelsea and Arsenal, to exciting young talents like Lauren Hemp and Ella Toone at Manchester City and Manchester United, each league fixture demonstrates how far the women’s game has come and exhibits a high level of individual talent. In addition to the WSL hosting numerous Lionesses, the league is home to some of the best international players in the world. As of the 2025/26 season, the Women’s Super League has had over 500 international players participate, with 47 different nations having been represented. Players from six different continents currently feature in the Women’s Super League, which has allowed for a worldwide fanbase that is growing each year. As a country, we have to be extremely proud of our ability to showcase so many talented players with different backgrounds, cultures and
languages. The Women’s Super League provides a safe space for players from all over the world to compete at the highest level and to inspire those who tune in to support them.
In order to appreciate the Women’s Super League, it is important to look at how far it has come since forming 15 years ago. When the WSL first began, although 16 teams applied to join the league, only 8 teams were awarded a place. In order to keep the league competitive, the WSL consisted of only the best teams in England and didn’t yet implement relegation, knowing the jump up to this league would be a big task. After two years experimenting with this system, the WSL decided to execute the traditional league structure, with the bottom teams facing relegation and the opportunity to join this league being given to the top teams of the league below. The relegation threat and promotion opportunity allowed for the league, and the league below, to become extremely competitive which has helped women’s football in England to propel forward in the last 10 years. Since its formation, the WSL has gone from being a part-time league
with 8 teams to hosting 12 full-time professional clubs in addition to welcoming two more places for the 2026/27 season. It could be argued that without the investment, development and nurturing of the Women’s Super League, the rise of women’s football may have not reached the potential that it is exhibiting now here in England. The introduction of the WSL laid the foundations for the current state of the Women’s Super League, which is recognised as one of the top female footballing environments worldwide.
Whilst this article is focusing on the Women’s Super League, we can also look at the Women’s Super League 2 as another exciting and competitive league in England. The WSL 2 sits just below the WSL and is the second highest tier in the English Football Pyramid on the female side. As opposed to the league structure on the men’s side, the WSL and the WSL 2 are intertwined, as they are supported by the same organisation, which is separate to all the leagues below that are run by the English FA. For this season in particular, the WSL 2 has been in the spotlight more than ever with the possibility
of three clubs from this league being able to get promoted. As discussed previously, the WSL will expand from a 12 team league to a 14 team league for the upcoming season. In order to achieve this expansion, instead of just the winners of the WSL 2 being automatically promoted, this reward will be granted to first and second place. In addition to this, there will be an exciting play off match between the 3rd place team in the WSL 2 and the 11th place in the WSL to determine which club will feature in the advanced Women’s Super League for the 2026/27 season.
For our Liverpudlian readers, you’ll be excited to know that the Women’s Super League hosts two Merseyside derbys a season. Just like the Premier League, the WSL 1 is home to both Everton and Liverpool, with the two clubs fiercely competing against each other, as well as the other teams in the league. Both women’s sides have had a lot of success this season already, with Liverpool reaching the quarterfinals of the FA Cup and Everton in a tight mid-table. In addition to achieving great results this season so far, there is another particularly special and exciting feature of Everton ladies that was introduced this season. As of September 2025,
Goodison Park has served as the women’s home ground for the foreseeable future. For football fans worldwide, this appointment gives them the opportunity to revisit the historic stadium and enjoy more Everton magic there. To our Liverpool readers, women’s football in Merseyside is thriving within the Women’s Super League; now is the time to support either the reds or blues, men’s and women’s team alike.
In closing, the Women’s Super League is an exciting, growing and inspiring league that showcases many of the best female footballers worldwide. Whether you visit a live game, watch the highlights on television or check out a WSL club’s social media, there are so many avenues in which you can become a part of a developing community that supports the growth of women’s football. Over the last decade, so much has been done to promote the women’s game and give female footballers here in England the resources to reach their potential and this movement is here to stay! From supporting your local women’s side, to attending a live game at a renowned stadium, the Women’s Super League wants to welcome you to its football family.
AIR PURIFIERS FOR THE HOME
BY KURTIS STACEY
Clearing the Air: Why Air Purifiers Are Becoming a Modern Home Essential
Step into any modern home today and you’ll find a growing awareness around air quality. It’s no longer just about how a space looks or feels, it’s about what you’re breathing in every second. With rising pollution levels, increased time spent indoors, and greater understanding of respiratory health, air purifiers have quietly moved from luxury gadget to everyday essential.
At their core, air purifiers are designed to remove contaminants from indoor air. These can include dust, pollen, pet dander, mould spores, smoke particles, and even microscopic pollutants that you can’t see but certainly feel over time. For many households, especially those in urban environments or with limited ventilation, this makes a tangible difference to daily comfort and long-term health.
One of the most widely recognised benefits of air purifiers is their impact on respiratory health.
For people who suffer from asthma, allergies, or other breathing-related conditions, cleaner air can significantly reduce symptoms. High-efficiency particulate air (HEPA) filters, for example, are capable of trapping particles as small as 0.3 microns capturing common triggers like pollen and fine dust. This can lead to fewer flare-ups, better sleep, and a noticeable improvement in overall quality of life.
But the benefits aren’t limited to those with diagnosed conditions. Even in otherwise healthy individuals, prolonged exposure to indoor pollutants can lead to irritation of the eyes, nose, and throat, as well as fatigue and headaches. Over time, poor air quality may contribute to more serious health concerns. By continuously cycling and filtering the air, purifiers help create a cleaner, more stable environment that supports general wellbeing.
Modern air purifiers also come equipped with a range of smart and practical features that make them more effective and user-friendly than ever. Many models now include multi-stage filtration systems, combining pre-filters, HEPA filters, and activated carbon layers. While HEPA handles particulate matter, activated carbon is particularly
effective at absorbing odours, gases, and volatile organic compounds (VOCs) released from cleaning products, paints, and furnishings.
Another popular feature is real time air quality monitoring. Built in sensors detect pollutant levels and adjust the purifier’s speed accordingly, ensuring optimal performance without unnecessary energy use. Some units display air quality through colour coded indicators, while others connect to mobile
apps, allowing users to track and control their indoor environment remotely.
Noise reduction and energy efficiency have also improved significantly. Many purifiers now operate almost silently on lower settings, making them suitable for bedrooms and offices. Sleep modes, timers, and auto shut-off functions add convenience, while energy-efficient designs ensure they can run continuously without driving up electricity bills.
Beyond health, air purifiers contribute to a cleaner home environment overall. By reducing airborne dust and particles, they help keep surfaces cleaner for longer and can even protect furniture and electronics from buildup. For pet owners, they’re particularly useful in managing fur, dander, and lingering odours, creating a fresher and more welcoming living space.
Air Quality and Fitness: The Overlooked Performance Edge
While air purifiers are often discussed in the context of illness prevention, their impact on everyday fitness and performance is just as important. Whether you’re training at home, doing cardio sessions, or even focusing on recovery, the
quality of the air you breathe plays a direct role in how efficiently your body performs.
Cleaner air means better oxygen intake. When the air is free from pollutants and fine particles, your lungs don’t have to work as hard, allowing for improved oxygen exchange. This can translate into better endurance, reduced breathlessness, and more efficient workouts. On the flip side, polluted indoor air can subtly hinder performance, leading to quicker fatigue and reduced output over time.
Air purifiers also support recovery. Sleep quality is a major factor in muscle repair and overall fitness progress, and cleaner air free from allergens and irritants can promote deeper, uninterrupted rest. Reduced inflammation from fewer airborne irritants may also help your body recover more effectively between sessions.
Perhaps most importantly, investing in clean air often delivers more consistent, long-term benefits than many high-end fitness purchases. Expensive equipment or supplements can only go so far if the environment you’re training and recovering in is working against you. In that sense, an air purifier isn’t just a home accessory it’s a foundational upgrade that supports every breath, every workout, and every stage of your fitness journey.
It’s worth noting, however, that not all air purifiers are created equal. Choosing the right unit depends on room size, specific concerns (such as allergies or smoke), and the type of filtration system used. Regular maintenance especially timely filter replacement. is also key to ensuring consistent performance.
As we continue to prioritise healthier living spaces, air purifiers represent a simple yet powerful investment. They work quietly in the background, improving the air you breathe, supporting your respiratory health, and enhancing the overall comfort of your home. In a world where so much is beyond our control, having cleaner air indoors is one upgrade that truly makes a difference..

Welcome to the Chill Out Spa. A true hidden gem tucked away in the 2,500 acres of the magnificent Knowsley Hall estate, the “multiaward winning Spa offers a haven of peace and tranquility, as well as an unrivalled well-being experienced.”
Upon arriving, you’re surrounded by the most beautiful historic buildings, and old restored stables full of character and charm.
Straight away, you’re greeted by that unmistakable spa aroma. You know the one. Instantly calming and grounding.
Reception was very welcoming, helping me get checked in before showing me to the bistro.
Shortly afterwards, a member of the team came to collect me and from that moment on, I completely lost all sense of time.
I was gently guided through the day, so I didn’t have to think, rush or watch the clock. I was able to completely switch off, relax and know that I was in good hands.
If you do one thing for yourself, I cannot recommend this spa day enough. I’ve visited spas with friends, partners and on my own, and doing them solo without a doubt is the most relaxing and restorative experience you can give to yourself.
I was on the Chill and Tonic package and received a full hour, full body massage with Zoe and this was something else. The aromas, the flow, the perfect mix of smooth, firm, slow and fast movements. It was deeply relaxing and out of this world.
After my massage, I returned to the Tranquillity Lounge, which is absolutely stunning. A big open space with high ceilings, soft lighting, calming music, gorgeous scents, candlelight everywhere, and beautiful beds with canopy nets - it was total peace. I felt so relaxed for the first time in a long time.
I tried both hot tubs, one was candlelit and one was outdoors. Inside the candlelit room, there was nothing but just me, my glass of Prosecco, the bubbles and an overwhelming sense of gratitude and calm.
Next was the outdoor hot tub. Looking up at twinkling fairy lights, surrounded by nature, birds, trees and flowerbeds, not a soul in sight, glass of Prosecco in hand…. it was absolute bliss.
After this, I headed down to the bistro for dinner and was met with a wonderful surprise.
A generously curated meze board arrived at the table, packed with a mix of all the things I enjoy most.
Tasty dips rich with depth, perfectly seasoned meats, warm bread and soft pita, olives, nachos, wedges, cheese and salad - it all added just the right touch of indulgence, whilst still feeling a little bit healthy!
This was the most perfect feast and a table for one that I’ll never forget!
I paired it with a latte, which was comforting and warming after time spent outdoors, and I took a moment to simply sit and absorb the day.
Wrapped in a sense of calm and contentment, I felt completely nourished, not just by the food, but by the experience itself.
It was relaxed, luxurious, and completely fulfilling - such a beautiful day, and one that left me feeling incredibly grateful.
I had planned to go shopping after this, but I didn’t want the feeling to leave me. I felt calm, rejuvenated, happy, and so Zen - the best I’ve felt
in months. This was such a special experience. Being looked after so well made me feel like a complete princess.
Thank you to all the girls at Chill Out Spa for such a wonderful day. This is one of my favourite spa experiences ever.
I’m so grateful for the kindness, care and attention, and I cannot recommend this package highly enough.
I’m already thinking of returning with friends, so that they can experience this 5 star magic too.

IMPROVE YOUR TENNIS FAST
BY CHRIS WHITE
After what feels like an extended wet winter are you ready to get back on the court?
It doesn’t matter if you are a beginner or an advanced player, you may be surprised how well populated the UK is for tennis courts. The Lawn Tennis Association has recently spent
a lot of money to rejuvenate and make local park courts more accessible with most courts being free to use all year round.
Or why not join a local club which usually costs less than a gym membership? This option usually means you will have the opportunity to make new friends to rally with, play competitive matches
against other clubs and have access to some professional coaching.
If you are keen to get some sneaky tips before getting back onto the court I might be able to help you or your child.
Do any of these issues apply to you?
– I don’t have time to book in a regular lesson.
– My local coach doesn’t have any spaces that work for me.
– I don’t want others to know that I am getting coaching.
– My child isn’t improving and I want them to get to the next level.
I have teamed up with a former British number one Dan Evans to offer a one time solution to improve your tennis game. Dan, who is still an active ATP player, has had incredible highs like reaching world number 21, winning the Davis Cup for his country and beating arguably the game’s greatest of all time Novak Djokovic!
This video analysis package allows you to receive personal feedback from Dan and his award-winning coaching team.
With no subscription fee all you need is your mobile phone.
Simply send in a short video of your area of weakness and what you believe is wrong, for example ‘my serve is my biggest problem as it lacks
power and often goes in the net’. 48 hours later you will receive a personal video back from Dan and his coaching team to explain in detail how you can improve that shot with examples and drills to instantly improve your level. Highlights to why it could work for you?
– Instant personal feedback
– Information from the highest level
– No subscription fee
– All you need is your phone
– Tips to hand you can always revisit. Why not have a look yourself?

expression that carries far beyond the mirror. I wear my nails double-tipped or extremely long. Yes, it’s not your everyday look — it’s bold, it demands attention, and it definitely stands out. But that’s exactly the point. For me, it’s my signature, my declaration. I love it, and I wouldn’t do without it. It’s unapologetically me.
Nails are subtle power. They communicate before you speak. A sleek nude exudes elegance; a bold red signals confidence; intricate art or unexpected embellishments show creativity and courage. They are an extension of the energy you bring into the room — quiet for some, commanding for others — but always noticed.
There’s a rhythm to maintaining them, just like any luxury habit. Upkeep is discipline. Protection, polish, colour, and design are part of a routine that keeps me poised, polished, and prepared. In the same way fitness shapes your body, nails shape presence. They require care, attention, and consistency. When the details are perfect, everything else feels effortless.
Extended nails encourage skill, patience, and adaptability. People often ask, “How do you do
anything with those nails?” The answer is simple: you learn. Just like strength training, coordination comes with practice. Every movement, every gesture, becomes second nature. And in that ease, there is confidence — subtle, unspoken, undeniable.
But nails are just one element of a larger beauty ritual. They shine brightest when paired with skin that glows, hair that moves, fragrance that lingers, and a wardrobe that speaks your story. Together, these elements create a signature style that is not just seen, but felt. Luxury isn’t just the things you own — it’s the energy you carry and the intention behind every choice.
For those hesitant to try bold lengths, designs, or double-tips, I say: start small, experiment, then build. Nails are forgiving. They can be reinvented
to match mood, occasion, or ambition. And the joy is in the process — choosing, creating, and wearing your energy for the world to see.
Extended nails, in particular, are liberating. They challenge convention, demand respect, and celebrate individuality. They are a statement: attention to detail matters, confidence is cultivated, and self-expression is worth the investment. When someone pauses to admire them, it’s never just about aesthetics — it’s about recognising care, intention, and style.
Ultimately, nails are more than decoration. They are power in miniature. A polished hand communicates discipline. A daring design signals personality. A confident gesture becomes elevated because the details are precise. They are elegance with edge, refinement with personality — a quiet assertion of presence that leaves an impression before a word is spoken.
In a world where everything moves fast, these small rituals remind us to pause, care, and show up fully. Nails are self-care, but they are also strategy. They are an emblem of discipline, attention, and unapologetic style. And when you wear them the way I do — long, double-tipped, and bold — they are not just beauty. They are a signature, a personal brand, and a statement of power.
So, the next time you sit in a salon, think beyond colour or shape. Think about the story your nails tell. Think about confidence, presence, and the energy you carry. Because when done with intention, nails are more than a beauty habit — they are luxury, discipline, and unapologetic expression rolled into one unforgettable detail.
MA BOYLE’S
BY KERRY LINDSAY
Welcome to Ma Boyle’s, one of my most cherished eateries in Liverpool and a place that truly feels like home.
Tucked away just off Water Street, Ma Boyle’s is a hidden gem. Nestled beside the beautiful St Nick’s Church Gardens and only a stone’s throw from the Liver Building, it is perfectly placed yet somehow still feels like a secret.
I’ve been coming here for as long as I can remember, and every visit brings the same feeling. A little slice of London charm with a hint of Parisian café culture, right here in the heart of Liverpool.
The venue is intimate, relaxed, timelessly beautiful and is full of character, comfort and cosy vibes.
They are currently hosting jazz nights, and as both a jazz and food lover, this is my idea of heaven.
There’s something very special about sitting down to a gorgeous meal while a live band plays just a few steps away… I was completely mesmerised.
Over the years, I’ve worked my way through much of their menu, so I’m sharing a few of my favourite dishes…
Starters first… The Halloumi Fries are always unbelievable, with huge portions, perfectly cooked
and coated in a slightly naughty batter that hits the spot every single time.
The Nachos are another winner, piled high with melted cheese and jalapeños and ideal for sharing… or not!
For mains, vegan diners are very well looked after. The Vegan Patty Burger is a fantastic alternative to meat, served on a toasted brioche bun with lettuce and tomato, alongside homemade battered onion rings, chunky chips and salad.
And those chips are out of this world. The smell alone takes me straight back to my childhood, when my auntie would make us proper homemade chips.
The steak is equally impressive, cooked beautifully and served with sautéed mushrooms and a rich peppercorn sauce that really elevates the dish.
I’ve also had the pleasure of trying Ma Boyle’s legendary Sunday Roasts, which are perfect for cosy winter Sundays. They are widely regarded as one of Liverpool’s finest roasts, and I totally agree.
We’ve tried the Roast Chicken, Nut Roast, Roast Beef and Pork Belly, all served with crispy roasties,
a Yorkshire pudding, seasoned vegetables, herb stuffing and rich gravy.
I’d never tried a nut roast before and was genuinely surprised by how delicious and nutritious it was. The chicken and beef were soft and juicy, but my personal favourite has to be the pork belly, crispy in all the right places.
Another outstanding dish for me is their famous Scouse. I’ve tasted plenty of versions over the years, but my ultimate favourite is Ma’s Blind Scouse Pie.
This is a vegan Scouse topped with a golden puff pastry lid and served with seasonal vegetables and spring onion mash - it is the ultimate winter warmer. The flavours were unreal and that pastry was a bonus that I didn’t know I needed.
And of course, desserts. The standout for me is the warm Sticky Toffee Pudding with ice cream. Meltin-the-mouth perfection. I was completely gutted I decided to share.
Moving on to drinks, the Espresso Martini with Baileys is one of the best I’ve ever had, and I don’t say that lightly. I also love that Ma Boyle’s offers brilliant mocktails too, which is perfect for my dad and anyone who doesn’t drink.
The service here is always exceptional. The staff are fabulous, super-friendly, attentive and genuinely make you feel welcome.
And finally, the atmosphere. It’s relaxed with chilled vibes, yet still a firm favourite for celebrations. It is also dog-friendly, which is always a win, especially for my bulldog Ocean!
There’s plenty of outdoor seating too, and it is super cosy. From here, you get a gorgeous view of the church and gardens, with the Liver Building just minutes away. It is the perfect spot if you’re exploring the city.
With incredible food, brilliant music and a warm, welcoming vibe, Ma Boyle’s is one you need to try.
If you’re planning a visit, drop them a message or check out their website, and whatever you do, make sure you catch the jazz.

ZENN LIVERPOOL
BY KERRY LINDSAY
Afternoon Tea with a Twist!
Zenn knows how to do indulgence properly. From the moment we arrived, it felt like stepping into something special. This is not your typical afternoon tea experience. It is Pan Asian inspired, beautifully bold and set within one of Liverpool’s most glamorous venues.
We sat at a plush booth surrounded by atmospheric lighting in all my favourite tones. It was the perfect setting for a birthday catch up, intimate yet
vibrant, with a sense that the afternoon was about to turn into something memorable.
The food completely exceeded all our expectations. Sushi, Bao Buns, Crispy Chilli Beef, Chicken, Rice, Fresh Salad and the most stunning selection of handmade desserts.
It felt exciting, unique and very generous. We definitely had FOUR desserts each and I regret absolutely nothing.
The Brownie was rich and soft, just as a brownie should be. Even when I was full, I could not resist going back for more.
The Chilli Beef was my standout, it was sticky and a little bit spicy. The Bao Buns were warm, soft and packed with flavour.
Having hot dishes as part of an afternoon tea felt like such a treat and was ideal on a cold, wet day.
Everything arrived on a bespoke Zenn stand, beautifully presented and finished with their signature logo. I love something a little different and this was exactly that.
There were two of everything, each dish thoughtfully prepared with bold Pan Asian flavours.
We paired the experience with Prosecco and Espresso Martinis, and the afternoon felt so special.
Zenn has that rare ability to shift effortlessly between moods. By day it feels calm, sophisticated and relaxed with great music and elegant energy.
By night it transforms into a space where you can dance, celebrate and party the night away!
It is beautiful, luxurious and the perfect excuse to dress up with your best friend… even in the afternoon!
On another visit, I tried the Sharing Platter, which was another brilliant way to sample a little of everything. Chicken Satay Skewers, Japanese Bon Bons, Tempura Prawns, Sticky Beef, Coconut Rice, Prawn Crackers and a selection of Sushi. Everything was delicious, with the Tempura Prawns and Sushi stealing the show.
I even tried oysters for the first time and was pleasantly surprised. Proof that Zenn is the kind of place that encourages you to step outside your comfort zone.
After dinner we enjoyed a cocktail and mocktail while exploring the rooftop, which was glowing with fairy lights and full of atmosphere.
The prices are competitive, the service is excellent, and the private booths are some of the biggest I have ever seen, and very luxurious.
Zenn impresses every time and is a Liverpool venue that continues to inspire and evolve. Their Afternoon Tea is the most unique version that I’ve experienced, and an incredible addition to the Liverpool food scene!

Anew performing arts conservatoire has opened in one of Liverpool’s most iconic waterfront landmarks, bringing worldclass training to the heart of the city.
Acclaimed choreographer Nazene Langfield has launched NDHQ at the historic Port of Liverpool Building on the Pier Head, creating a bespoke centre of excellence for aspiring performers.
The new space unites two leading institutions –Dynamix Performing Arts College and the Nazene Danielle School of Performing Arts – under one roof, offering elite training to some of the Liverpool City Region’s most talented young performers.
Dynamix, with more than 25 years of experience, has built a strong reputation for preparing students for major industry opportunities, including West End productions and UK tours. Students also perform as the professional ensemble in major pantomimes at St Helens Theatre Royal and the Epstein Theatre, entertaining audiences of over 100,000 each year.
Beyond theatre, performers have appeared at largescale live events such as Clubland Festival and Reminisce, while graduates continue to secure roles internationally on major cruise lines.
The Nazene Danielle School of Performing Arts provides a full-time alternative to mainstream education for students aged eight to 16. Mornings focus on academic studies, while afternoons and
evenings are dedicated to intensive performing arts training, supporting both creativity and wellbeing.
Nazene Langfield, who has nearly 35 years of experience in the industry, began her career at a young age, performing at the Liverpool Empire Theatre and training with the National Youth Music Theatre.
Over the past 25 years, she has built a successful career as a choreographer, teacher and adjudicator, working with leading organisations and delivering international training programmes.
Speaking about the launch, Nazene said the move marks a proud moment in her career and a major step forward in supporting the next generation of talent in Liverpool.
NDHQ aims to inspire young performers in a space that reflects the creative energy of the city, right at the heart of its world-famous waterfront.

BY CHARLIE ALFONSO
Liverpool-based hospitality operator Sefton Collection has announced the opening of its latest boutique hotel, 19 Duke Street, located in the heart of Liverpool city centre.
The 26-bedroom property occupies the former home of Lock and Key, previously recognised in The Sunday Times “100 Top British Hotels.” Set within a Grade II-listed Georgian townhouse, the hotel combines period character with contemporary comfort following an investment of more than £100,000 to enhance and elevate the building’s original features.
Each room at 19 Duke Street has been upgraded to include Nespresso coffee machines, luxury toiletries and a range of additional enhanced guest amenities. Guests can also enjoy 24-hour reception with
concierge services, daily housekeeping, free Wi-Fi and guest room service with further enhancements due to be announced in the coming months.
Midweek introductory opening rates start from £79 per room, positioning the hotel as a high-quality yet accessible offering in one of the city’s most desirable locations. The property sits just 50 metres from the popular Liverpool ONE retail and leisure complex, and within a 10-minute walk of the Royal Albert Dock Liverpool, The Beatles Story and the M&S Bank Arena Liverpool.
The opening of 19 Duke Street brings Sefton Collection’s total number of properties in Liverpool to six with a combined total of 292 bedrooms, strengthening its position as the largest privately owned, independent and unbranded hotel collection in the north of England, meaning that
each property retains its own unique identity and character whilst benefitting from group level services and support.
The new hotel will create 10 additional local jobs, increasing Sefton Collection’s workforce to 160 employees.
Sefton Collection already operates a number of other properties in Liverpool including Ropewalks Hotel and Sefton Park Hotel, the latter currently undergoing a £250,000 refurbishment scheduled for completion in spring 2026. Reilly’s Sports Bar, and the purpose-built event spaces Clubhouse and Baby Clubhouse.

VOYAGERS LIVERPOOL
BY KERRY LINDSAY
There are places you visit once, and then there are places that you have to return to time and time again - for me this is Voyagers Liverpool.
Set in the heart of the Ropewalks, within the beautiful Halyard Hotel, the award-winning Voyagers is a celebration of global flavours with a distinct Liverpool soul, and a great place for feelgood dining.
Whether you’re sipping on cocktails and sharing small plates, having an Afternoon Tea whilst celebrating something special, or having a wholesome Sunday Roast with someone you love, this is the place to be.
From the moment we arrived, the ambience set the tone. Live music playing, a warm welcoming atmosphere, soft lighting and an energy that instantly lifts your mood.
It feels relaxed, yet elegant, and is beautifully decorated with stunning furniture and impressive tableware.
The service is exceptional and staff are attentive without ever feeling intrusive. They are friendly, extremely professional, and give you a sense that you are being genuinely looked after.
The small plates menu is a perfect reflection of Voyagers’ creativity. Designed for sharing, every dish is unique and beautifully balanced.
The standout for me was the Chargrilled Sea Bass with curried parsnip purée and pomegranate. This was absolutely divine, and without doubt the best sea bass I’ve had for a while. When sea bass is served with a sauce, I want it to enhance rather than mask the flavour of the fish, and this did exactly that. The sauce was used with restraint, complementing the dish without overpowering anything.
The Salt and Pepper Chicken with watermelon was an unexpected pairing that worked brilliantly, while the Confit Duck with braised lentils was rich and
satisfying, with crisp skin and beautifully tender meat that was mouth-watering!
The King Oyster Mushrooms were another highlight. Bold, unique and packed with flavour, I was so glad we tried them and they were a first for me!
Dessert paid homage to Liverpool itself, with a Liverpool Tart enjoyed alongside Prosecco, wine and thoughtfully-made mocktails. The pastry was crumbly and the inside was sweet. It was the perfect ending to a very impressive meal.
Voyagers is also somewhere that understands how food brings people together. That was never clearer than during an Afternoon Tea visit, which was a wonderful experience from start to finish.
The Afternoon Tea was exquisite. It was presented beautifully on a large cake stand overflowing with all of my favourite things!
The sandwich that stole my heart was the Brie and Cranberry, but the gammon, turkey and salmon were equally as tasty, and made even better by the variety of breads, including focaccia and brioche.
The warm Pork and Cranberry Sausage Roll, served with a cranberry, orange and port sauce, was completely irresistible.
And the classic scones were delicious. Soft, fresh and impossible to stop eating. The top tier of the cake stand felt like a dream, with Viennese Mince Pies, After Eight Macarons, Winter Berry Cheesecake and my ultimate highlight… Chocolate Truffle Sprouts that tasted just like Champagne truffles (wow!)
What made the afternoon even more special was the accessibility. My friend is a wheelchair user and she was overjoyed by Voyagers and its easy access, spacious seating areas and fully accessible toilets. Feeling comfortable and cared for matters, and it is something Voyagers gets absolutely right.
And then there are Sundays. Sundays at Voyagers are something else entirely. For me, Sunday Roasts are about tradition, comfort and connection, and sharing them with my dad makes them priceless.
On our most recent visit, we tried the Sunday with Sides menu and it was incredible.
Dad chose the chicken, while I went for the lamb, beautifully cooked and seasoned, served with vegetables, red cabbage and my all-time go-to, cauliflower cheese.
The portions were generous, the flavours spot on, and of course we could not resist pudding. Watching dad’s face light up as the plates arrived and hearing him talk about how much the day meant to him is exactly what dining out should be about.
Every visit feels special here. The staff each go above and beyond and make you feel genuinely valued every single time.
It’s clear to see why it is one of the city’s most inspiring dining destinations and somewhere I always recommend. Because at Voyagers, it is never just about the food. It is about how it makes you feel. And that is why it will always be one of my much-loved destinations.

THE BEAUTY CORNER
BY JADE AINSWORTH
Welcome back to my beauty corner — I’m Jade Ainsworth, and for my second edition I’m excited to be sharing more of the beauty products I genuinely can’t live without with my Liverpool readers. Each one has been tried and tested, chosen not only for the results they deliver but also for
their value for money. These are the staples I reach for time and time again — the ones that live permanently in my bag or on my shelf. From hair and skin to tan and makeup, these are the beauty essentials that help you look and feel your very best.
My Hair Re- Growth Ritual
Hair loss is something people rarely talk about until they experience it themselves. For me, it arrived alongside my autoimmune condition, Hashimoto’s. I started noticing strands on my pillow each
morning and seeing far more hair than usual in the shower. It was unsettling, to say the least. But once I began speaking openly about it with clients in our salon ( Hairfields in Childwall ), I realised just how common it actually is. Hormonal shifts, stress, illness, post-partum changes and general life burnout can all play a part. Whatever the cause, thinning hair can have a real impact on your confidence and how you feel.
Over time I’ve learned there’s no miracle cure — consistency is what really makes the difference. One routine I’ve remained loyal to is the Nioxin Scalp
& Hair Thickening System 4. The version I use is designed for coloured hair that’s dry or damaged and experiencing more advanced thinning, although there are different systems depending on your hair type. It’s a simple three-step routine: shampoo, conditioner and a scalp treatment. I tend to use it once a week, usually mid-week. The shampoo has a cool, minty sensation that leaves the scalp feeling incredibly fresh and clean. It’s fantastic for scalp health, although it doesn’t give that ultra-silky,
glossy finish — which is why I like to combine it with other products.
Daily scalp care has become a real must for me, and that’s where the Kérastase Genesis Serum comes in.
I apply it each evening before bed, concentrating on my scalp, particularly around my hairline and temples where my hair has always been finer. The formula is lightweight, absorbs quickly and never leaves a greasy residue — even if you’ve recently had your hair styled. I’ll admit I was sceptical at first because it’s a premium product and I wanted to see real results before committing to it. But the improvement was clear. The regrowth around my roots was noticeably longer where I had been applying the serum. It’s definitely an investment, and you’ll likely get through a bottle each month, but the results speak for themselves.
At the weekend, especially if I have plans, I switch things up and use the Kérastase Genesis shampoo and masque. This is my go-to routine when I want my hair to look its absolute best. The scent alone is beautiful. I use a small amount of shampoo and then apply the masque, leaving it on for as long as I can. It leaves my hair feeling soft, glossy and incredibly healthy, without weighing it down. While these products are also beneficial for the scalp, they’re more of a treat than an everyday staple, which is why I balance them with the Nioxin system during the week.
Hair recovery takes patience — it’s never an overnight fix. But looking after your scalp and staying consistent with the right products can make a real difference over time. Your future hair will thank you for it.
Tan: My Go-To Glow
If, like me, you’re not a fan of feeling pale, you’ll understand why a good tan is always part of my routine. Over the years I’ve tried so many different products, but only a handful have really earned a permanent place in my bathroom cupboard. A touch of colour instantly makes your skin look healthier and gives you that extra confidence boost — especially when you’ve got plans or a special occasion coming up.
I’m someone who loves a holiday, but even when I haven’t been anywhere sunny people still ask where I’ve been away to. My natural skin tone is quite fair even though my hair is naturally dark, so having
a little glow really helps brighten my complexion. Even when I’m wearing makeup, a tan just makes everything look fresher and more polished.
For everyday colour, I like to keep things simple with Garnier Summer Body Gradual Tan. It’s one of those products that quietly does its job without any fuss. Because it’s a gradual tanning moisturiser, it hydrates the skin while slowly building a naturallooking glow. I apply it after showering most days, and it gives just enough warmth to the skin without looking obvious or overdone. It’s perfect for work, daytime plans, or when you just want a subtle boost.
When I want something a little more noticeable — particularly for weekends or if I have an event — I switch to the tinted tanning lotion from Vita Liberata. I apply it using a tanning mitt, and it’s genuinely one of the easiest formulas I’ve used. The colour is a beautiful golden tone rather than anything orange, and it blends effortlessly across
the skin without streaking. What I love most is how evenly it develops and fades ( plus it doesn’t smell!) — it never leaves the skin looking patchy or dry, which makes it great even if you’re not the most confident tanner.
For my face, there’s one product I always return to: the Ambre Solaire self-tan spray in medium. I’ve been using it for years and it’s still my fav, nothing comes close! I normally apply it two or three times a week, and it often appears on offer in places like
Boots or Home Bargains, so I tend to stock up when I see it. My little trick is to pop on a shower cap to protect the hairline, lightly mist the face, and you’re good to go.
I spray it on before bed, and by morning my skin has a soft, sun-kissed glow that evens out my complexion without clogging pores or feeling heavy.
Preparation is just as important as the tan itself, and removing old colour properly is something I never skip. Before applying fresh tan, I always use the Rose & Caramel exfoliating tan remover with gloves. It’s incredibly simple — apply it, leave it on for about a minute, then rinse, and the old tan lifts away effortlessly. Your skin is left smooth, even and perfectly prepped, which makes a huge difference to how fresh tan develops afterwards.
When you find products that are reliable, easy to use and give consistent results, tanning stops feeling like a chore and becomes something you genuinely enjoy as part of your routine.
Makeup Must-Haves — And a Liverpool Beauty Tip
When it comes to makeup, I’ve always believed you don’t need a huge collection to feel put together. A few reliable staples that you trust and reach for time and time again can make all the difference. And if you’re looking to refresh your makeup bag or get properly colour-matched, there’s a brilliant little beauty tip for my Liverpool readers.
If you pop into Boots at Speke Retail Park, their beauty team can actually apply your makeup for
you when you purchase two products — which is perfect if you’ve got a night out planned or simply want expert help finding the right foundation shade or lipstick tone. It takes all the guesswork out of choosing new products and gives you the chance to see them properly applied before you commit.
If I had to narrow my own routine down to three makeup products I genuinely can’t be without, these would be them.
Everything starts with a good base, and for me that will always be Giorgio Armani Beauty Luminous Silk Foundation. It’s been a cult favourite in the beauty world for years, and it’s easy to see why. When I first heard it was being reformulated, I worried the texture might change — but thankfully it still delivers that same flawless finish. The formula is lightweight and radiant, giving coverage where you need it while still looking natural and skin-like. I wear
shade 6.5, which blends beautifully with my skin tone and creates that effortless, healthy glow. Once my base is done, I always move on to lips. A good lip liner instantly elevates any makeup look and helps keep everything looking neat and defined throughout the day or night. I love the Maybelline lip liners with hyaluronic acid, and my favourite shade is On It. It’s the perfect everyday nude —
balanced between pink and brown so it works with almost any lipstick. The formula is creamy, comfortable to wear and never drying, making it a great everyday staple.
To finish the look, I reach for a lipstick that my friends constantly ask about. The Yves Saint Laurent Love Shine lipstick in shade 202 is one of those products that feels as good as it looks. It’s incredibly hydrating, gives a beautiful glossy finish without being sticky, and still manages to last surprisingly well — even after food or drinks. Every time I wear it, someone asks what shade it is, which tells you everything you need to know.
So whether you’re heading out in Liverpool or simply looking to update your makeup routine, popping into Boots at Speke Retail Park for a professional match-up could be the perfect place to start.
That’s it from me for this edition of my beauty corner. I hope some of my tried-and-tested favourites have given you a little inspiration to refresh your routine or try something new. I’ll be back next time with more beauty finds, honest recommendations, and the products I’m loving right now. Until then, keep glowing. Love Jade x

SPRING IN YOUR STEP
BY LEA READ
With spring in your step, let’s talk designer shake-ups. Bottega Veneta and Chanel are calling it a day! 80s fashion is back and loud flower power prints are everywhere. Strong shoulders are back and colour-popin capri pants, once known as pedal pushers, are being teamed with wind funnel neck jackets in the coolest colours at Saint Laurent. Coloured dresses over knits, Brussels and giant bows – it’s a total showstopper! 2026 is in the mix.
Bows and leathers, Saint Laurent 26 collection is my favourite this year. The crisp cotton poplin blouse with its unmistakable Parisian edge is an icon outfit. It features exaggerated shoulders, a low-cut front and a giant bow. I love that the bow can be played around with as shown above. The 26 biker jacket in the most beautiful conker tone has balloon sleeves and fierce shoulder padding. Paired with a columned pencil skirt with an elegant edge, it’s a total knockout!
Silk scarves have always been seen as a way to elevate outfits. Icons like Audrey Hepburn and Grace Kelly wore them elegantly as headscarves, while modern celebrities like Rihanna let their scarves do the talking with graphic prints and a retro feel. Celine and luxury brands like Hermes are forever favourites for many.
Pastel palettes, across runways, Coperni, Chloé Blumarine, fashion weeks, shades of mint, lilac, butter yellow, sugar pink and beige – sure to enlighten. Sunny days, refined tailoring to lighten fabrics, tones as fresh as a daisy. I love it!
STYLE
Famously known in the late 90s, these have made a significant fashion comeback. They’re seen on many celebrities and create polished versatile looks. Originally designed in 1940 by designer Sonja De Lennant, they’re considered an alternative to shorts, bridging the gap between summer and fall. My top tip? Pop on a heel thong-style dainty sandal and you’ll be hot to trot!
Saint Laurent’s retro shell windbreaker is clearly striking and offers a smoking legacy. It’s the coolest thing on trend for the spring / summer, offering versatile style.
STYLE
Royalist – a classically bold purple and gold. My top picks:
