Beverley Insider's Guide to Ballantyne

Page 1

As a long-time local, I’ve watched Ballantyne grow into a fun and exciting metropolis. I’m constantly adding to my list of favorite attractions – but I’ve narrowed them down to handful of restaurants, bars, spas, shops and cinemas to give you a taste of what this area has to offer.

When I’m craving something different, I head over to Miro Spanish Grille to share tapas with a friend. There are tons of bold, vibrant dishes to choose from - like fresh seafood plates, and tasty pasta. But take my word for it—you’ll want to save room for a homemade pastry. Hickory Tavern is my go-to spot when I’m in the mood for pub food (which is all the time). This sports-centered restaurant is a neighborhood favorite, thanks to its friendly staff and eclectic menu. You can’t go wrong with the pow pow shrimp, pub fries or signature wing selection. Wash it down with a cold pint—or premium cocktail. Cabo Fish Taco has long been a Charlotte staple – so I was ecstatic when they opened one in the Ballantyne area. If the name sounds familiar, you may have seen it featured on Diners, Drive-Ins and Dives! The food is that good. Mango BBQ Mahi-Mahi tacos? Yes, please! When the breakfast cravings hit, I know just the place for homemade biscuits and grits. Everything on the menu at Flying Biscuit Café is made with fresh ingredients, so you’ll be pleased with any dish you try. (But trust me on those biscuits and grits.)

Whether you’re looking for a quick, casual lunch or an upscale dining experience, the Ballantyne area has it all.

The Wine Store at Blakeney: Wine lovers, rejoice! This fun and friendly shop offers 150+ wines, curated by a Master Sommelier. It makes for the perfect detour on my way home from work! Part of the Ballantyne hotel, Gallery Bar is the perfect splurge-spot for food and drinks. Here, you can indulge in a wide selection of wine and premium spirits. The hotel itself is beautiful, offering a great space for private events or weekend getaways. Bradshaw Social House keeps a fun crowd any night of the week. I suggest ordering bar bites like ribs and wings while listening to live music. If you love trivia, head to Bradshaw’s on a Tuesday for a chance to win prizes and gift cards. The Gibson is my first choice for a good burger and a great time. Beer & live music are served up daily in this casual space.

You’ll find plenty of exciting nightlife in and around the Ballantyne area, from elegant wine rooms to rustic taverns. When the weekend rolls around, I grab a few friends and head to one of these top spots.

When the weather’s nice, their rooftop patio is the place to be—with two full-service bars and a milkshake counter!

I spend lowkey weekends soaking up luxury at the Golf Club of Ballantyne. There are tons of upscale amenities to choose from—like tennis courts, swim-

ming pools, and even a full-service spa. As one of the few art house theatres in Charlotte, Regal Cinemas Ballantyne Village 5 offers a fun and unique movie watching experience. It’s my cinema of choice. Enlighten Yoga offers more than 65 yoga classes weekly, with something for all experience levels. Everyone is friendly and welcoming, so it’s a great space to let off steam. It was even voted Best Yoga Studio in Charlotte.
