This room is shared by me and my sister. Most of the private activities take place in this room. This is the main entrance of the house. This is my parent’s room, it is the most interactive space of my house.
This is the lobby and drawing room, used when guest appears.
This is guest room for informal and formal guest ,but usually used by me and my sister for working and watching television.
The task was to measure our own house and draft it on AutoCAD. It gave us an idea how the measurements are taken and how different zones have been layout. `
This house was built 17years ago. The plot is 270sq. yard . The house has 2 floors and a terrace. A year ago I got renovated my floor.
ZONING It is a relationship between the spaces
WHAT IS ZONING??
It tells us how different spaces have been layout in a residence considering privacy of each space.
The position of guest room is appropriate since it is near to the entrance which makes easy for guest to access the entrance.
The position of the balcony is not appropriate, it should be placed near the private areas. The guest room is also attached which makes a problematic in accessing it.
A very distinct pattern is followed in terms of privacy as the private areas are at the back and not near the entrance.
PROXIMITY MY ROOM Kitchen and Parents room is easily accessible. The lobby is at considerable distance just 5‐7 steps away. Guest Room and Drawing Room is considerably far away from my room, at the other end of the house.
• • •
PARENT’S ROOM • • •
Parents Room follow a similar pattern to that of my room. My room is adjacent to this room. The kitchen 5 steps away.
KITCHEN • • •
Kitchen is adjacent to my room. Considerably close to Lobby. Drawing Room is fairly away from the kitchen, on has to pass through the lobby to go to Drawing.
PROXIMITY LOBBY • •
Easily accessible to the kitchen. Drawing Room is adjacent to lobby and close to the entrance.
DRAWING ROOM • •
Close to entrance, easily accessible for the guest. Kitchen is a matter of concern as it is quite away from kitchen.
GUEST ROOM • •
Kitchen is 15 steps away from guest room. Close to entrance, easily accessible for guest to operate.
Working triangle follows in the kitchen but it is not the most appropriate one because it has a long working triangle. Least circulation happens through drawing room door going through balcony.. In Parent’s room most of the circulation takes place because all the major activities takes place there only like eating, going to back balcony.
• The overall movement happens around the rooms. • Overlapping of movement takes place near the shaft, it is the most busy passage throughout the day.
FORM AND SPACE •
This is a very nice and open space, as soon as somebody enters the house it gives a welcoming effect.
This arch like structure looks very abrupt in the middle of the space which makes the passage behind congested.
The round tables does not match with the rest of the furniture, if it was square the whole space would have look more balanced.
There was no need to keep two tables together, had it been placed on right side of entrance the space would have look more appealing.
This is a very open space, had it been some cabinet the space would have look more appropriate but since there is a door it cannot be utilized well.
There is a door behind the sofa, each time someone has to open the door; the sofa has to be removed.
• The passage is very narrow and gets congested as lot of circulation takes place through this passage, two people can only access it at a time •
Less space to walk, people tend to bang into the wall.
The space is very congested, difficult for two people to access it at the same time.
There is lot of open space to walk through, but it becomes difficult to access the central table because it is out of reach.
There is not enough space to walk through, it is bit packed.
The dressing area is very congested, so the door and wardrobe collide with each other when both are opened together.
The table is being placed adjacent to the wardrobe which has blocked the opening of the drawer, it cannot be open.
The door collide with the opening of the fridge, whenever the fridge is opened nobody can enter the kitchen.
The study table is placed adjacent to the window which blocks the opening of the window.
The door of the store room blocks the entrance of parent’s room, one has to close it and then only he can enter.
PRINCIPLE OF DESIGN The room is out of proportion as compared to the other rooms of the house.
The room has asymmetry pattern because the left side of the room is heavier than the other part.
There is a sense of symmetry and is well balanced. The space is well utilized, and the furniture is properly aligned
• The house is well aligned and has a sense of symmetry and harmony.
Project: Amin Residence Designed by Dipen Gada & Associates Location: Vadodara City, Gujarat, India Situated at the outskirts, this 65 000 sq.f plot is surrounded with a lot of greenery. The brief was to create an open plan which could communicate well with all areas and outdoors. • FOYER • LIVING ROOM • DINING ROOM • POWDER TOILET • KITCHEN • STORE • HOME THEATRE • POOJA ROOM • 5 ROOM PLAN
There is a proper demarcation between private and public zones. Dining area becomes the point of segregation between these areas and interactive at the same time. PRIVATE
There is no problems anthropometrically, only in this particular area where there is very less space for walking.
This area adds to the beauty because of the openness in terms of space.
PRINCIPLE OF DESIGN
I like this space because of its proportion, it is very huge and open and it has tactile material quality(sand).
Wide open, and the swimming pool adds on to the space, it changes the mood of the space.
The living area looks out of proportion as compared to the other spaces and out of balance, as it is not well utilized. Both the rooms are mirror to each other and has sense of symmetry.
This space has no symmetry and out of balance, as being such an open space it is not well utilized.
There is a sense of symmetry in the house, as each space is well utilized.
The bed is not aligned to the wall, leaving unnecessary space behind as there is a window behind.
The treatment of the wall is fascinating, it is the wall just after the entrance and it gives a welcoming feel to a person.
SKYLIGHT ON A WAY TO TERRACE.
Swimming Pool to control the temperature in Summers.
LOAD BEARING WALL PARTITION
WEATHER CONDITIONS The climate in VADODRA is considered to be as DRY. SUMMER The weather is hot through the months of March to July. The average temperature is 36
WINTERS From November to February, the climate is extremely dry. Cold northerly winds are responsible for a mild chill in January.
Working triangle follows in the kitchen.
Kitchen is easily accessible to all the areas.
PATH AND FORM FORM AND VOLUME The form is clearly cuboidal making it both additive and subtractive.
This is an additional to the structure making a junction , intentionally done to break the monotony of the space.
PROJECT BRIEF CLIENT – MAKHIJANI CLAN
SEMI‐PUBLIC SEMI‐ PRIVATE PUBLIC PRIVATE
A strong pattern of circulation is being followed.
Sufficient amount of daylight entering the house.
DESIGN BRIEF MASTER BEDROOM EXISTING - The size of the room is smaller in comparison to a master bedroom. It has a walk in closet which is very compact. The space is more like a normal bedroom, it does not have anything unique which makes it different from other rooms. The windows of the room is small in size which does not allow much of sunlight. SOLUTION – A spacious walk‐in‐closet with large windows and a special element which makes it different from other rooms.
DRAWING ROOM EXISTING – The drawing room is very spacious, it can accommodate 12 people and has a attached balcony. The space is very enclosed, does not allow the interaction with the other spaces. SOLUTION – A well defined opened space having interaction with the other spaces.
FAMIY LOUNGE EXISTING – Open space with l shaped couch and TV console in arch behaving as a partition for public and private space. It behaves like more of a informal and unused space. SOLUTION – A separate space which behaves like a open space as well as has some degree of enclosure where the family members can have interaction and food as there is no dining table.
SIBLINGS ROOM EXISTING – There is no separate sibling room. SOLUTION – I would like to have a spacious sibling room, with walk‐in‐closet and a study space.
GUEST BEDROOM EXISTING – The existing space is quite spacious to live in. It has no attached washroom and a small closet. SOLUTION – Spacious room with attached washroom and a large closet .
DESIGN BRIEF KITCHEN EXISTING – It has a U shaped counter. Proper working triangle follows. It is a enclosed space. SOLUTION – An open kitchen with a minimal degree of enclosure with proper storage and tall units.
UTILITY ROOM EXISTING – There is no separate utility room, the washing takes place in guest washroom. SOLUTION – I want a utility space which is integrated in kitchen only.

The entrance lobby is designed in an intresting manner,it gives a welcoming effect.
The following space is balanced on both the sides maintaining a symmetrical pattern.
The kitchen is symmetrically alinged and follows a linear path.It ahs a very strong axis.
The kitchen has proper shelving and and appropriate working triangle which makes it perfect for cooking. The overall feel of the kitchen is created as interactive.

Formal space is a space which is used by formal guest/people, hence it should be well
The space has radial axis. The center table is complementing the form .The wholespace has a complementing factor.
Family lounge should be that space where interaction between members can happen, hence it is designed keeping that thing in mind.
The partition becomes the center of emphasis. The placement of furniture is symmetrical and compliments the space.
Master Bedroom is a space created differently from other rooms .It has has a special elemnt (partitions) which beautifully segregates the space for sleeping area.
The L‐shaped sofa compliments the L‐shaped pantry table. The space is well balanced.

The l shaped console balances out the space and compliments the form.It has a radial axis.
The room is linearly alinged and there is sense of harmony in the space.
Since my sister is nerdy, so the feel of the room is created keeping that in mind.A proper study space was to be created but since there was lack of space,i combined that into T.V unit.
