Trusted. Award-winning. Transformative. Dear LRSS Community, I’d like to launch the 50th Anniversary of Little Rock Scripture Study with one word: grateful.
We are grateful to you. Whether this is your first LRSS catalog or you’ve journeyed with us for many years, we are grateful for your love of God’s Word and the trust you continue to place in us. Thank you for breaking open God’s Word with us. We are grateful to all who have nurtured our mission. From humble but explosive beginnings in the Diocese of Little Rock to our current home at Liturgical Press, Little Rock Scripture Study has benefited from the knowledge, creativity, and generosity of scholars, editors, directors, designers, customer service reps, and more who have given of themselves for the sake of this mission. We wish we could name each of you: thank you. We are grateful to God, whose blessings overflow from the pages of Scripture into our lives, whose breath enlivens us, whose wind blows where it will, whose Spirit inspires and transforms us in our study and in our living. With grateful hearts, we are proud to launch two brand new studies in 2024: Women in the New Testament (January) and Women in the Old Testament (August). Women in the New Testament offers brand new commentary and videos that delve deeply into the lives of the women who knew Jesus and were essential to the ministry of the early church. Women in the Old Testament combines the classic commentary of acclaimed scholar Irene Nowell, OSB, with updates and essays by contemporary scholar Jaime Waters, along with brand new videos by a diverse cast of lecturers—some new, and some familiar faces. This year’s Connections e-newsletters will share more about the origin, mission, and reach of Little Rock Scripture Study, looking to our incredible past and our bright future. Be sure to sign up for emails at littlerockscripture.org to receive these updates and more. Come, celebrate with us!

The Holy Spirit in the Bible
41
George M. Smiga with Little Rock Scripture Study Staff Christian belief in the Holy Spirit as the Third Person of the Trinity was not officially defined by the church until the fourth century. But centuries earlier, the Hebrew Scriptures and the New Testament were already describing the action and presence of God’s Spirit. In The Holy Spirit in the Bible, George Smiga unpacks key Scripture passages, exploring the activity of the Spirit at creation, within Israel, in the ministry of Jesus and the early church, and at the end of time. The role of the Holy Spirit in our personal and spiritual lives is also explored. 6 lessons.

Scripture and the Rosary Clifford M. Yeary with Little Rock Scripture Study Staff The rosary has long held a central place in the prayer lives of Catholics. At the heart of this popular form of prayer is an invitation to focus our minds and hearts on the life, death, and resurrection of Jesus Christ, Son of God and Son of Mary. Through an illuminating analysis of all the relevant biblical texts, Scripture and the Rosary provides a trustworthy guide for deepening our understanding and appreciation of key events in the lives of Jesus and Mary, reflected in each set of mysteries: Joyful, Luminous, Sorrowful, and Glorious. 4 lessons. Clifford M. Yeary served for many years as the associate director of Little Rock Scripture Study. He is the author of several Bible studies, including The Sermon on the Mount, The Eucharist in Scripture, and Pilgrim People, all published by Little Rock Scripture Study/Liturgical Press.

BESTSELLER!
Excellent resource for the Eucharistic Revival!
The Bible is full of passages in which angelic beings are sent to accomplish God’s will. Angels speak for God, direct the course of nations, and protect God’s people. They worship God and deliver God’s judgment. In Angels in the Bible, George Smiga examines some of the Bible’s most fascinating passages about angels, exploring their ministry on God’s behalf and drawing insights for our own spiritual lives. Because angels are mediators of God’s presence and action, studying angels is studying God. 6 lessons.

The Eucharist in Scripture explores the biblical theme of meals shared in faithful fellowship and in covenant relationship with God. Old Testament meals and promises provide a foundation for gospel meals with Jesus, culminating in the Last Supper as it is understood throughout the New Testament. Jesus’ Bread of Life discourse and the early Church’s practice of “breaking bread” are also explored. 5 lessons.

Frequently Asked Questions
?
FAQs
? ? ??? ?? ?
Are these Bible studies for in-person or online Bible study? Either! Whether you’re meeting in person or online, each participant will need a book. Then your group can gather in person or meet online for weekly discussion and faith-sharing.
Can we use a DVD, or do we need to view the lecture videos online? You can use a DVD if you prefer! There are two ways to watch our video lectures. A link to the online lectures is provided in each book, but if your group prefers to use a DVD, they are available for purchase for every study in this series. Groups that meet in person can stream the online lectures if they have internet access, or they can purchase a DVD if they prefer. Groups that meet online can “share screen” and view the online lectures.
Are group discounts available? Yes! When ordering for your group, you will receive a discount on orders of 5 or more of the same book ($13.95 each). Orders of 15 or more come with even greater discounts ($10.95 each).
Why are some of these studies divided into Part One and Part Two? We’ve found that most groups prefer to meet for 4–6 weeks at a time, so some of our studies are divided into two parts. If your group would like to do one of the longer studies straight through, simply purchase Parts One and Two together and study them back-to-back for an in-depth Bible study experience.
Will all of the LRSS Classic Studies (pages 28-29) move into our signature 4-6 week study format? The majority of our Classic Studies will steadily move into this new format, with everything you need together in one book, discount pricing for groups, and free online lectures (or DVDs for purchase). 50 Years of Catholic Bible Study
