Included with this newsletter is the first Progress Report for your son. The purpose of this report is to give you a general overview of how well he is progressing in his studies at this stage of the year. You will have an opportunity to discuss your son’s progress with his teachers on either Tuesday 16th or Wednesday 17th April. If you wish to contact his teachers you are most welcome to do so. Email is probably the best way to make initial contact (email addresses are on the website). Alternatively if you contact reception you will be able to leave a message for the teacher. I believe that good communication between school and home is an essential part of successful teaching and learning, and I would encourage you to regularly check the College website for up-coming events. I look forward to seeing you at the Parent/Teacher evenings. I thank you for your contribution to the Gala effort for this year. There has been a noticeable increase in the amount of donated goods this year. At this stage it looks like we will have just enough of the wonderful summer weather on Saturday for the Gala before the farmers’ prayers are answered with rain on Saturday evening and Sunday. I wish to acknowledge the hard work of the PTFA under the leadership of Mrs Yvonne Wood. At present the applications for the Josh Blackie Scholarship are being processed. Josh who is an Old Boy of the College has provided the scholarship to cover the fees and sports costs for a Year 10 student. All the applications are given to Josh who makes the final decision. I thank him for his generous support of the College. Congratulations to Joshua Bieshaar who represented the College at the North Island Secondary Schools Rowing Championships at Lake Karapiro. He won the under 16 single scull gold medal. Well done Josh and best wishes for the up-coming Maadi Cup competition next week. Congratulations to Anthony Yelavich who won the Rooney Cup for 2012. Anthony achieved the highest overall grades in the external standards for NCEA. He is one of 4 students who are studying a mix of Scholarship subjects and university subjects. The three senior student leaders Burhan Kapasi, Conor O’Hanlon and Otto Filipo attended the Edmund Rice Leadership Camp between 2nd and 5th March. It was Liston’s turn to organise this event and Mrs Skelton is to be commended for her excellent work. The Camp was lead by Br. Damien Price who will be working with the students and staff later in the year. May God bless you and your families
