Some inspiring words from Hugh Warwick

Hugh’s thank you to the Benefice.

I must begin by saying how sorry I am to have taken so long to thank you all for your kindness to me and patience as I sort myself out. It still feels very strange not to have an active ministry among you, and yet still have an unusual sense of belonging to you in a special way as a gift from God. Does the past tense make this something final like a closing of a door, or does it simply carry a welcome to a new future and new ventures, and the hope I (and Auriel) can continue to share with you all? It is a strange feeling, but one I hope we will all grow used to as time rolls by and the gifts that God always seems ready to spread among us continue to strengthen our lives and the work we all do will be in His name. But we all have to come to a point at which we have to take

stock of where we have got to in the lives God has given us and it will be different for each of us. Some of us will find it difficult to stand back and hand the baton on to someone else, but it will have to be done. We cannot expect to carry on without ever beginning to wear out. It will happen, and it will be a frustrating experience, but to be surrounded by family and friends of many years’ standing will be something to look forward to with enjoyment. I know that much thought went into the book presentation revealing the enhanced enjoyment of the plant life that surrounds us in both our cultivated gardens and in the order of nature. The book of flowers is beautiful. There is so much I don’t know, and I look forward to improving my own knowledge and understanding of the wonderful creation God has given us to live in. So, thank you, from Auriel and me for what you have brought into our lives and we look forward sharing it in the years to come.

And finally

St Swithin's Day is 15th July - the date when he was moved to a new shrine. This day is associated with the weather forecast for the English summer, in the rhyme: St. Swithin's day if thou dost rain- For forty days it will remain.

St. Swithin's day if thou be fair- For forty days 'twill rain nae mair.

I hate to say it but, according to the BBC weather, the forecast for Saturday is ‘light rain showers & a moderate breeze’ – Also it shows a rain drop from 6am –7pm!!
