I have just received information about the AngelFISH program for this year. FISH is now asking people to spend $100 on any child they "adopt". If you can still do this wonderful gift, please call me and talk to me at church. (248 628-4428) Feel free to go in with a group or another family to do this. We still need to get gifts for these needy children. You can also get items for the Bonus Table. These are things that the Moms get to choose in addition to the major gift they get. The children always know what is on their wish list so it is nice to have something that is a surprise. Choices might be hats, scarves and mittens, games, decks of cards, coloring books and crayons, gift certificates for Mickey D's or another fast food place, dolls, cars and trucks or any other small item you can think of. St Mary's has always been a very generous congregation and I know that we are still that.

OCTOBER 2012

Youth Group News This year the Youth Group team has selected a new curriculum entitled Re:form. Our first session was on September 2nd, and the youths enjoyed their first experience so much that they asked to extend the class so they could all watch the lesson's video segment for a second time. Please see the article in the September Glad Tiding for a summary of this year’s curriculum, and check the St. Mary's facebook page for a video link about Re:form. In addition we are planning on having seven after church events with the youth group. Future events include laser tag, the DIA, roller skating and a trip to the Sloan Museum. We are also planning on having a youth group overnight on New Year ’s Eve and Maundy Thursday.

Fellowship Committee

Bible Study

The Fellowship Committee is hosting a Fall Colors Walk on Sunday, Oct. 7th. Meet in the Fellowship Hall at 3 p.m. for a walk around the grounds of St. Mary's and Canterbury Village. There will even be a scavenger hunt for the kids! We will also enjoy a delicious caramel apple bar after the walk.

Tuesday morning Bible Study continues this week at 10 a.m. All are most welcome. Coffee/tea will be provided. We will continue the study of a booklet called "Psalms, Prayers of the Heart."

The Fellowship Committee will be meeting again on Tues., Oct. 16th at 6:30 p.m. in the Fellowship Hall. If you are interested in planning fellowship events for our church family such as Open Mic Night, Euchre Night, and Holiday Movie Night, please consider joining this fun committee. See Stacy Tines for more information.

See Sue Sanna if you have questions.

OCTOBER 2012

Pastoral Care Commission I would like to thank everyone who assisted with the recent funeral luncheons held in the Fellowship Hall. It always warms my heart to realize that when I have other obligations, I know things will run smoothly in the capable hands of the Pastoral Care Team as well as the St. Mary's family. Thanks again - you are all very special. Always, Deb Lunney

Vestry Announcements

Spiritual Stitchers

The Vestry would like to ask all parishioners to remember that we have two wonderful services every Sunday morning, and everyone at each service is a valuable member of the St. Mary's community. Any-time an announcement is made at one service, arrangements should be made to repeat the announcement at the other service to ensure that everyone is aware of parish business. Please don't accidentally exclude anyone. If it is important enough to announce once, then it is important enough to announce twice.

The first Spiritual Stitchers meeting is scheduled for October 20th. We want to extend an invitation to all those who can knit or crochet. We meet the 3rd Saturday of each month from 9-11 a.m. in the Bell Tower room. Come and join the fun and friendship! Bring a friend! Contact Maxine Henderson (248-393-1906) for further information.

Advent by Candlelight St. Mary's will be glowing with candlelight on Monday, December 3, 2012 for our 4th annual Advent by Candlelight celebration. We are accepting hostess registrations ($35 per table), on a first come/first assigned process. Each hostess can then invite up to 7 women guests to gather for a time of friendship and delicious food. Following the gathering time, there will be an advent service in the sanctuary, which is open to all parish and community women. Please contact Deb Nowakowski at 248.628.1799 or 1debski@sbcglobal.net or Donna Davis-Daisley at 248.391.2005 or star5mom@aol.com for more information.

Opportunity may knock once, but temptation bangs on the front door forever.
